Howdy.  Took me a while but this is mah official TO report for the 1/24 vintage that was held at my store.

41 people battled over 6 rounds of swiss for top 8.

Full Photo Album for both days here:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/11764968@N07/sets/72157623292728304/

Ditto!

I believe Steve was supposed to be declared the unofficial winner after the top 4 scoop-a-thon, but I'll take the first place whenever I can.

Brief summary:

I went 4-1-1.  My only 2 game losses (and eventual match loss) of the day were both to G.I. (semi-mirror match)  He's much better at the blue cards than myself  Very Happy

I played against and defeated oath a grand total of 4 fucking times (Double-Dragon in the quarter-finals, Iona twice, and a Watskeburt!?-Oath hybrid during round one). Apparently, the room was full of shops, fish decks, other tezzez and ichorid, but somehow I'm a magnet for green enchantments.  It got to the point where after round 2 or 3, I made my own spirit tokens to carry around with me for the day.  Seriously.

Mystic Remora is the stone-cold balls in this format . . . especially when most of your opponents are running 57 cards that don't have the word "Creature" on them.

Greater Gargadon is the best invention of the previous decade, surpassing the iPhone, the snuggie, and that harness that you can put on your dog to force it to crap inside of a detachable bag.

I had a blast, played a lot of tight games and close matches.  All of my opponents were stellar, friendly, fun and competitive.  I can't wait to play vintage again!

I'm the only other legal target, so I draw 6 cards, and he literally quits Magic.

Six straight rounds of Vault/Key although I did get to see an Oath in round 2.  That's okay, Knight of the Reliquary and little white/green guys to the rescue!  Thought I was definately in with 4-1-1 but still had a great day.  Thanks Dave.

I doubt it was about that Steve. I think its a combination of John Longo being a space cadet, and having the most unreadable writing imaginable. His list was very straightforward if your curious. Imagine a tezzeret build with maindeck Misdirection, spell pierce, and REB. It was my only loss in the swiss because off a jar he drew 2 counters, and 3 more off a timetwister (all on the same turn). Hope this helps a bit.

If the list was unreadable, wouldn't that trigger all kinds of judge violations when you get deck checked?

In a sanctioned tournement. Yes. In a 20 proxy tournement with some of the worst proxies I have ever seen. No. Im sure Feinstein will give you an explanation eventually. Who knows... Maybe he will even post the results for the Legacy event that I won on Sunday with Belcher.

I played with a proxied time vault, and that was it. But, some players went entire games without a single real card. Made the game a lot less fun, and a lot more of a hastle having to strain my eyes reading bad proxies. It made me wish we went back to the days of 5 proxie events. At least then people were encouraged to collect toward getting power instead of instantly selling power to whatever dealer would buy them.

Wow you're reading into 'lost decklist' way too much.

I legitimately lost his decklist.  There's no hidden message there like he told me to hold it back or anything.

I'm the last person to with-hold decklists.

I just lost his, that's all.  Sorry about that.

Sorry, been extremely busy running my store and scheduling events... plus one of my TV's blew out.

You can't deny that 20 proxies encouraged people to play the format.  Many of them were people I had not seen play Vintage before, and there were even a couple players I've never seen before period... and I know everybody ;P

41 People showing up for New England Vintage in the current stage it's in is fantastic... especially with another er, 'competing' type one tournament on that day.

Really 80+ people playing vintage in 2 different locations in the Northeast on the same day should be considered a success for Type One.

I hope the people who were giving me guff for running this the same day as another Vintage tournament now understand that it ended up being a good thing for the health/growth of the format.

Anyway that's really all I have for now.  My next Eternal Weekend is March 13th/March 14th.

I'm working on getting a Magic Game Day but am experiencing some issues with that, so if it falls through there will be another Vintage Tournament in March.

Thanks to everyone who showed.  I'm glad I got to write a love letter to Vintage and I thank those who helped me with it.

Your deck is very close to what I ran at Legacy Champs in '08, even down to the Plunge... awesome sauce.  I think its a lot better than the versions that play Desperate Ritual and no Infernal Tutor.

Dave, thanks for the lists. Too bad you're not playing anymore. I will never forget the good old Kird Ape times... (and of course Savannah Lions, but I liked the Kird Apes more)

Some missing cards:
Kyle's list misses 5 cards (Ancestral Recall listed twice)
DA's list missing one card (you already noticed)
John's list missing 60 cards and 15 sideboard cards :p

Thanks Tobi.  I still am a great admirer of your site.  =D

I still play when I can, but it's extremely rare.  I'm just too busy with the store, but I guess that's a good thing.

PTQ's are currently in the middle of Kird Ape season (known as extended to most :p), plus they just made White Kird Apes, so I'll probably be sneaking around a ptq or two soon  Wink

As for updates on upcoming events of mine, it's looking increasingly like I will not be having a Magic Game Day.  I'll know by the end of the week...

if this is the case I have a very hot replacement tourney lined up and it would be vintage =D

That's it for now.  Thanks again for the kind words.

Had a great time during Eternal weekend and am looking forward greatly to the next ones on March 13th/March 14th.

So no Gameday this time around since WOTC ran out of kits, but I'll be replacing it with another vintage tourney =D

This precedes Eternal Weekend.  If you play in both $10 Vintage tourneys you receive $1 store credit.

I'm curious to see what shows up.  Looking in other threads there seems to be some new decks popping up.  Seeing alot of mono black.  Hoping fish shows up  Very Happy

I think the format is more wide open than people make it out to be.  There were some good stax variants that came very close to top 8'ing last time, including a mono red one by Ray Robillard I liked alot.

I appreciate the comments from everyone who didn't accuse me of holding back decklists :p
Don't know how that came about, since I've never held back a list in my life and have always been critical of people that did it.

Anyway that's it for me in this thread.  Thanks again to everyone who showed for Eternal Weekend.  It was a great success and I'm glad people really enjoyed themselves.

Hope to see you for either March 6th's Vintage, or Eternal Weekend on March 13th/14th... preferably all 3 =D
