The sixth decks name is actually Tom Bombadil, not Bobadil. Wink And one Enginieered Explosives in the maindeck is missing. (I would never play this deck without an Explosives, the most flexible card in the deck). But anyway nice tourney, fun deck to play and challenging field, even though just 14 people appreared.

It's funny, I was looking at mono red stax, then looking at some of the card choices, and my instinct was HOW did he fit in so much stuff?

Then after some looking, I realized that he actually IS playing Stax, and not Uba Stax.  He has 0 Uba Masks and 0 Bazaars.  Very interesting list.

Congrats to everyone on the results!

Anyway, the gifts list seems a bit odd to me featuring only 2 merchant scrolls and 3 dark confidants as well as 1 Mindtwist and sundering titan. Why the titan over dsc? Surprise factor, or just earlier tinkering in desperate situations? Do these changes signal a new direction for gifts?

Also @Phele, what do you think of academy ruins in bomberman?

The meta here is full of Tendrils combo and Gifts, where Mind Twist and Sundering Titan really shine and are much better than say Collossus and Merchant Scroll.

Academy Ruins is a fine card I thought a bit about, but I don't see it too usefull in Bomberman. I already play salvagers, that should be enough.

What I'm thinking about in the moment ist improving my sideboard against - surprise, surprise - combo and Gifts. Orims Chant are fine as long as I play Meddlings main, but I would like to cut them for a Thirst, a Mana Crypt and a Salvagers. But then I need some sort of permanent sollution in these matchups and I don't want to play Chalice as it hinders me pretty much the same.

It seems difficult to call Litz's Stax deck "Stax" when it only contains 1 Smokestack...

Staxless Stax has been going around for...like...½ year?

The name Stax doesn't originate from the use of Smokestack. The name is an acronym:

t - the
S - $
A - 4 (look similar)
k - k (meaning thousand)
S - Solution

The $4k Solution

tS4ks

switch the t and the S and it comes to St4ks, or Staks. Stax being the shorthand. The price of Bazaars, power, and Workshops combine to make it one of the most expensive decks in the old metagame. The name is now used for any archetype based around locking down the board prison-style utilizing Workshops ever since.
-AJ

Edit :: I don't want to get into an arguement here. I know you know JD, I'm just clarifying for anyone who actually thought that's why the deck was called Stax.

Quote
(Just in case you missed it - T$4KS is an acronym for The Four Thousand Dollar Solution. Switch the $ and the T and you have Stax).

Thanks, I never knew that or anything...it's not like I haven't been around for a while.  Rolling Eyes

There were no Bazaars in Stax when it debuted in 2003, let me tell you that.  Do you really think that Steve and Toad sat down and built a deck called "The Four Thousand Dollar Solution," and that a central card in the deck, Smokestack, just happens to shorten nicely to "Stax" if you make it pural?

When I decode the hidden clues for www.thehiddenmanadrain.com in the columbus mox tourney forum I found a secret article written by none other than Stephen Menendian and Matthieu Durand. It illustrated the development of the deck known as stax and the reasons it was created. Thus, with this knowledge, it is proof that Stephen and Mattieu did indeed come up with the deck called The $4Ks solution.

So what? There has been a thread on Staxless Stax by Iamfishman for months now, so why unnecessarily spam this thread with advice on the deck name? Some comments on the deck lists themselves would be much more appreciated? Thanks a lot!

Since there is indeed only one Smokestack in Heiner's list (thanks to JDizzle for noticing), the name "Stax" is of course inappropriate. The deck should be named "Stack".

Fixed that.

Anyway, I am still not sold on the Tangle WIre vs. Smokestack issue. Stax is slow but still is a good card. I thnk in 5c stax at least a single copy which can be tutored for is necessary to get rid of pesky permanents. I am currently using 2 smokestacks and 4 spheres.

Altogether I was fairly impressed of how good the deck works. The Bobs are amazing as they really allow this deck for the first time to have a clock. WIth all the welders, mox monkeys and artifact beaters the stax problem of going into time and draw the game is now much less probable. Plus they draw cards and they are sooo good with bazaar.
In the Eye is also very good. Only the SB just wasnt too good next time I need s.th. vs. Ichorid and fish.
