The dynasty team from 1996-2001 was a team that was very strong up the middle, with Girardi/Posada behind the plate, Jeter at SS, Knoblauch at second, and Bernie in center.

I am very much into the statistics of baseball, and I think that there is a lot of important information that can be gleaned from careful statistical analysis.  Still, there is something to be said for much of the knowledge that had been passed down from past generations, and strong starting pitching and good outfield defense, there's a lot to be said for being strong up the middle.  The Yankees had a borderline Hall of Fame player at CF and C, with a Hall of Famer at SS.

Brian McCann will probably be the best catcher in the American League in 2014.  I don't think it's going to be all that close.  And while Cervelli has questions about him (the steroid ban for 50 games shocked me, I didn't think he was that kind of guy), he has been tearing the cover off the ball this spring.  This could be the best catching tandem in the American League, if not baseball.

There are a few options at SS that will be on the board next year, and there is still the shot at picking up Stephen Drew if the team needs it.  With Jacoby Ellsbury in center, have the Yankees put together another team that is strong up the middle?  It will be great fun to watch!
