I dunno, maybe AndyStok will answer but I imagine since it's the standard for New England and he hasn't kept up with our proxy debates, that he just defaulted to 5.

More than five proxies is annoying.
You get people proxying cards they've never seen,
cards they have no idea what the Oracle text is.
When one card in six is a land
with something illegible scrawled on it,
it becomes difficult to keep track of the game state.

I agree about the unclear proxy thing, Dan. In fact, I lost a match in Hadley because someone proxied moxen on the same basic lands they normally played in the deck. If it were up to me, print outs would be required or the proxy would not be valid.

If there's a general concensus among people here, I could probably convince Stok to up it to ten...  But honestly, I agree with Pern.  More than five and keeping track of the game becomes a chore.

I would disagree with Stephen...when he asks why so few proxies, I would ask why any proxies?

Let's leave the proxy issue to the proxy discussion threads.

On the tournament: this will be awesome.

The prize support for the tournament itself looks amazing.  It is sad that the tournament scene in VA has died out so much since there are so many quality players here.

Are PCs going to be provided so you can just play it on magicworkstation?

Someone has convinced someone else to up the proxy limit to ten.

Personally I think that this allows for a more competative field.

Anyway the thread has been updated and Zherbus will be updating the front page.

happy proxies,

PS. I will fucking be there...

This is the nut. I'll def. be at the tourney.

So I guess 10 proxies is kinda the norm now? Thats awesome. See here for why (they are awesome):

w00t w00t.

Also- we should have rules for what a legal proxy is, and what isn't (like Zherbus said)

***Proxy Rules for the North East T1 Championship***

It's preferable if all of your proxies are printed picture copies of the original card.  Even if poor in quality (but ledgible).  If you must create your own however, use these guidelines....

Proxies must contain the following for this tournament:

1.  Full name of the card (no abbreviations or cute nicknames).
2.  Casting Cost of the card including all colored mana symbols.
3.  All relevant/game effecting text. (flavor text is not relevant, but the "discard three cards" part of Bazaar of Baghdad is lol).

There will be penalties starting with a warning/game loss (depending on the situation) and ending with disqualification for any attempt to use a proxy to misrepresent a card (like grouping a Mox proxied on a land card with your lands, then "forgetting" to bury it when a Pernicious Deed effect resolves etc.).

Proxies are a healthy way to ease people into T1 without sandblasting their wallet and they are great for the budget player, but they can be confusing and either player can "forget" whether on purpose or accidentally and that leads to incorrect game states which is something we would all like to avoid.

Chris Leather

If someone could put this on the origional post, that would be wicked cool.

Well if you consider Hadley as an example the new blood it brought it were running things like Ball Lightning so I don't know how much more competitive that is.

10 proxies will bring in the scrubs, the unskilled players, and yup you guessed it...  the money.  I think the 10 proxy thing is going to become a standard because TO's will see how many more people show up to their events.

Personally my opinion is that 10 proxes sucks.  If you want to play type 1 suck it up and invest in the game.  You don't have to play MUD, Dragon or decks running complete power 9 to win.

Everyone is always comparing the playing skill of magic to poker.  Well go play poker then if you can't afford to get into this game.  You can get standard deck of playing cards at a gas station for less than you can get a Goblin Welder and the prize money is bigger.

10 proxies = more new blood.
New Blood = money in TO's pockets.
10 proixes could also mean deflation in prices of cards in the future.

My 2 cents here.  I'll still go to this thing to try and wipe the tables of printed power and take a lotus home.

I don't even have a whole lot of power cards, and I've barely got some of the harder to come by non-power (access to drains, ownership of masks, and permaloan bazaars to be precise) but I'm still in complete agreement with ctthespian.  Ten is just too damn many proxies.

More people means better prizes. And if they're really all scrubs, then it's the good players who end up with all the prizes anyway.

Do you really need the game text for cards like Mox Sapphire?

God damn I might have to show up to this thing.

Well, stuff like Gorilla Shaman and Deed need to know if it's an island or an artifact.

Hey guys,

This tournament is going to have FIVE , yes that`s 5 proxies.  However, if you sell a card in your deck over the course of the day (like to trade for a mox) we will make and sign a proxy for you to use.

Something to note.  All money from the enterance fee will go directly into prize support AND THEN SOME.  We are trying to run the largest type 1 tournament since 1997.

Tell your friends, tell your friends` friends, and heck... tell your enemies, lets make everyone start paying attention to type 1!

For all the tension between me and the Academy crew...this is very admirable and I totally compliment Andy for it.  This is exactly the kind of thing that type 1 needs.  I also agree with the five proxy rule.

It's great to see people doing all the can to keep type one growing in popularity!
