It's a topic that never been brought up, but it's just to me, is the 50-min round limit enough? I once got a warning because I shuffled too much, exceeding the 3 min limit, when all I'm doing was just making it sufficiently randomized. And when I was playing a control deck the match sometimes ended in a draw which is very bad for me. So I'm now thinking, why should matches be only 50 minutes long? This gives you only 15 minutes per game, which IMO is enough only for causal play, but if I'm playing for big prizes, no. That doesn't even allow much strategtic thinking, and when I'm being hastely, I make ten times as much mistakes. Shouldn't tourneys be organised in a way such that 90+ minutes are given each round instead?

And do you want to get up at 5:00 A.M. to go to the tourney that starts at 6:00 A.M. or the tourney that ends at 2:00 A.M. in the mourning?

Think realistically about how much of a difference 40 min makes to a round (40 x 6 + T8 rounds x 40) that's an extra 400 minutes to a tourney. There is just not enough time in a day to acomplish this.

I play control decks often, yet I've never had a single draw due to time.  You've just gotta automate a lot of the decision-making proces and pay concious attention to the clock.

Yeah, nobody likes to draw, but the fact of the matter is it IS necessary in order to get the game completed in a timely fashion, if you're finding yourself drawing alot because you don't have time to make strategic decisions it probably means you need to practice more and "automate" these decisions. In a way time limits and stalling penalties reward more prepared players in this way. Also, I'm a strong proponent of shuffling an opponents deck, but you should never be taking longer than the allotted time, that's just excessive.

Remember, the time limit justifies you committing homicide if your opponent is playing Shahrazad.dec.

...or you could just concede the sub-games and move on.

Oh... my... God. White direct damage... WW: Target opponent loses half their life. That's so good.

I never had problems with the 50 minute time limit either. Generally games go fast, and people do concede (if they are clever enough to realize they can't win, and do need to go to game 2 or 3).

Seeing that everyone bitches about Type 1 being over in the first 2 turns... 50 minutes should be MORE than enough.

Im all up for making round 60minutes just because it seems like a better number but there are still decks that will make you draw.  Also this is a unneccasry post because the dci can't make round longer or else we will have to start a 8 in the morning as stated before.  You need a better argument because what you are asking is unrealistic.  If it was 1 1/2 hours for each fround everyone would be bored because we would be waiting for 1 or 2 matches.  That really isn't fair just because you have had to draw in the past.

I'm all for a longer time limit.  Being able to think decisions out is always nice.  And stasis might be a viable deck type once again :p.

An extra 10-15 minutes for watching 2 control decks try to kill each other doesn't sound like fun.   Does the DCI tournament floor rules allow for any time limit to be used?

Or, whoever gets the first advantage...like resolving FOF before your opponent does.

You could always just switch to combo. Then again I can remember tournaments where 2 long decks would play each other where taking 5 turns could last up to an hour (longer than any control deck I've seen go to time)

Really, I think the current time limits are just fine. If you need to take some time to make an important decision then by all means take your time. I've seen players take as much as 5 minutes to make a play (without complaint from either player). But, I also think that stalling your gameplay to the point where you can't finish game 1 is a little excessive (yes, I'm talking to you shahrazad).
