I don't like the #3 Keeper list (and I'm biased, because I lost the mirror match against it). In my opionion it is way too reliant on Humility, making the deck extremely vulnerable against proper Aggro. However, AK's + Scepter combined with a low count of creature kill appears to have been a good metagame choice, in a field of Slaver, Combo and some Tog. Also, the sideboard is somewhat awful.
For the record, I finished 15th with a 5-2 record with Angel-Keeper, losing two matches against the above mentioned Keeper (2-1) and against a Belcher deck (2-1), which kicked me out of the T8 with a first-turn kill in the third game.
I have made three observations that really got me in the course of the tournament.
One: I was able to race Hero t' Mannetje (sp?), aka pyromaniac on TMD, with Exalted Angels. He played Hulk, but was unable to remove my Angels short of a Deed for six. He had no sideboard removal to wish for. Why did he not include at least a single Vendetta or something?
Two: I totally crushed a Grow-Deck in the last round. Last thing I heard, Grow is supposed to beat Keeper. Appearently, even a 6/6 Dryad is not good enough against Exalted Angel, which is a savage beating.
Three: Where does the Landstill-Hype come from? I had a long first round, going almost into overtime, but beat my Landstill opponent 2-0. He played without Drains, which makes part of my observations flawed, but he had Powder Kegs to compensate. I say: Compared to Skeletal Scrying, Landstill has no real card draw apart from Ancestral (which my opponent lacked). I strongly believe Landstill is NOT the deck to run unpowered, since I feel that you need Ancestral to match at least some of the draw power your control opponents have. If I break your Standstill at the end of the turn you played it with a Brainstorm, you will have to discard and I get the same mileage out of my Brainstorm. Conclusion: I don't know why Standstill has made such a numerous appearance in the SCG East Coast Vintage Championship.
Ok, Landstill has made T8 in Dülmen. It is a good deck, for sure. I just don't think it is worth all the hype.
