Should we expect any changes for Type 1 when Wizards announces the changes to the Banned & Restricted lists on June 1st? With Dr. Sylvan's article showing that the top 2 most used cards in the format are Force of Will and Brainstorm, is there any chance these cards might get restricted? If so, what else might have to be done to keep the balance of Type 1 safe? If not, what keeps these cards safe?

If Type 1 is balanced and safe, why does it need to be tinkered with to make it balanced and safe? :/

Force of Will will literally be the LAST card EVER restricted. I couln't agree more myself, but wasn't it on the DCI's "Watch List" as long as there was a list that they claimed to watch?

If force went down things would be so insane. There would be no need to pack disruption so that would free up 4-8 slots in all the combo decks that could be used towards boosting speed. Likewise, decks wouldn’t need to have to devote space to backup plans or recovery because their main plan would never be forced. With all that space freed up we could push a lot of decks towards turn one goldfish and have a format that truly was nothing but the coin flip.

Force of Will wont be restricted until the DCI decides they dont want anyone to play Magic any more. Brainstorm is a balanced card, and wont be restricted.
The only card I think **may** deserve a strong look at is Cunning Wish, but even that hasn't bent the metagame out of shape.

I'd actually say that Force of Will is the glue that's holding the format together, without it people will just go nuts making insanely fast decks sure that their turn 1 kill will resolve every time. It's keeping the combo players honest. Brainstorm is incredibly balanced, even the great synergy with fetch lands doesn't make the card broken, it doesn't do anything amazingly broken on it's own, it just greatly improves card quality, not nearly banning/restricting material.

I don't expect any restrictions. The closest thing I think would be returns, which isn't tearing up any tournaments.

I've heard serious whispers that Bazaar of Baghdad might be hit. I just want to say on the record that this would be a tragedy of epic proportions and would be completely wrong.

No restrictions. All the most powerful cards Mishra's Workshop, Dark Ritual, and Bazaar et al. people really, really want in the format.
I predict that the restrictions will be based on articles that important type one players write asking for cards to be restricted and unrestrictions will be based on polls posted here, star city articles, and letters written.
If type one players don't ask for it, there's going to be no restrictions or unrestrictions.

Dargon, thanks in part to PTW, is currently dominating 1.5. While I agree that nothing needs to be changed in our format, 1.5 could use help. It would be very unfortunate to see Bazaar on the list due to its affect on 1.5. It would be like Earthcraft, only people will care.

Hopefull we'll see a relaxation, perhaps Earthcraft coming off the list. Don't worry about Bazaar Steve, to the best of my knowledge a staple aggro card has never been restricted, and Dragon combo isn't strong enough to merit it. I'm hoping for a few more cards coming off the list, I don't see anything that could be added. Type 1 is in a Golden Age right now as far as I'm concerned and any restriction right now would be telling us what deck to play instead of opening up room for more decks. defector

Type one is very healthy right now. There are a wide variety of competitive decks and innovation out there. If we ignore nostalgia and card appreciation, now may be the best time to play T1.

I would like to see a few changes. One of them being the separation of the 1.5 banned list from the t1 restricted list. That said, fork could probably be unrestricted along with earthcraft

Nothing's going to happen because of Type One--I've seen to that. I could believe the Bazaar in 1.5 thing, and if it happens, I'll volunteer to take charge of the article-writing death commandoes that moderate this site and we can take SCG's front page by storm.
I actually almost wish they would do it just so we could finally have a good reason to get all worked up about it and make them see the light on list-separation, and then unrestricting it.
(Oh, and no one mention restricting FoW again. That shit's not funny, yo.)

As practically everybody else has said before, the meta is currently balanced. Cards are not restricted based on the number used, they're restricted when they're too powerful and break the format making the game no fun and reducing players to choosing between playing the dominant deck or losing. Hence, neither FoW, nor any other counterspell, including Mana Drain, will be restricted.
Preemptively restrict Relentless Rats! Now that would be funny  .

I would love to a 1.5/1.0 list separation. Right now 1.5 is like a red headed step child in type 1's close knit Italian mafia family, noone plays it and if you told me sol ring was too powerful, but 4 tinkers was cool, I'd be in extended and laughing at 1.5. Please, a little sanity here, the only reaosn it's the way it is is sheer lassitude on the part of the dci. The argument that not enough poeple play it to make it worth revising seems a little ridulous to me because it seems built to be unplayable. That anyone plays it at all is a miracle, and the fact that some people do should be enough incentive to improve it. I mean we're capitalists for christ sake, expand the market defector

Every time someone mentions Force of Will being restricted an angel is hit by a Mack truck.
Wizards is a capricious dame. Even though every good article that's appeared on large sites has supplied us with exhortation after exhortation about the healthiness of the format, you can never know if some random-but-vociferious individual has caught R&D's ear with whines of "OMG fod chayn = borken!!1".
If I had a position of power in R&D, I would fiddle with the minds of the consumer via bans and restrictions. Nothing that would assumedly drive players away, but just random curveballs to test the mettle of players. "Let's see them play without their precious Mana Drains!" I would say as thunder clapped in the distance and a murder of crows flew overhead.
I love you, Swanky. -Dr. S.
The environment is fine, and I hope R&D has sense enough to not restrict anything.

Getting rid of Mana Drain would definetly cause an angel to get hit by a truck. The only cards that are close to being restricted(bazaar and workshop) are still just lands. There is a ton of landkill. Bazaar obviolsy hasn't help dragon win as of late and even though bazaar is good it is not worth restriction. When the hell wil R+D listen to the people and unrestrict Earthcraft. Oh by the way, LONG LIVE THE SQUIRRELS

Few things.
1. Dragon isn't dominating 1.5, it's tier 1, but far from dominating. 2. Never fucking suggest restricting FoW.

Why would they restrict Bazaar of Baghdad over Elvish Spirit Guide in 1.5 Dragon, or Spoils of the Vault? Restricting Bazaar is just lame ... hella lame.

There's nothing that needs restricting in T1. They MAY restrict something just to get it out of 1.5, but even that is a REMOTE possibility. And that's all there is to it.
