Guru isn't on my top of the list, they're too mundane for me.  I don't care about their insane price.  The artwork isn't bad but it isn't foily or have cool looking symbols on it (asian cards rock).

Pimping is one thing, but comeon... http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=19115&item=5907171178&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW

Oh I agree, no basic land is worth more than about $1.50 to me. But Gurus look the best, because they have amazing art, they form a mural, and aren't muddled up with that horrible foil nonsense that in some circles passes for class.

It just doesn't feel right, putting hundred dollar cards next to basic lands, because we use so many basic lands in Type 1! [/sarcasm]

Even if you run 2 Basics lands, you're gonna fork out 30-50 for them? If you do then i'm guess you're just a T1 player and don't do anything else like Draft.  That and I actually like the art on a lot of the Beta and Saga lands more then the Guru lands.

I'm sure 90% of the people who said Guru here wouldn't actually pay for it. But that wasn't the intention of the poll, right?

I've got a set of basic ice age swamps I signed myself, but those don't really count. I think snow-covered lands are the pimpest, since they actually are different.

APAC and GURU lands are pretty cool too, I've seen someone go rifle-shuffling with his UW-control, (You know: t2.) but I think the snow-covered are the best.

I have one that I randomly picked up in a trade years ago for like $5. That's probably going to be the only Guru land for me, ever. It's still absurdly sweet. Best expansion symbol ever. EVAR!

I like the (nonfoil, because foil is ugly) Invasion Forest that has waterfalls cascading down huge trees, the Invasion Plains that's just wheat glowing in the sun, the Mirage Mountain that has the sun setting behind it, and the Island from Ice Age that has one really high cliff in the right of the frame and a little greenery at the bottom. I don't play Swamps unless they have Islands attached to them, but if I did they would be one of the better Saga ones, because Saga is blacker than Denzel, no lies.

Alpha is so much better than beta (rounded corners rule)

Still Gurus take the cake.  Foils suck as I have such a love hate relationship with them but never in land.

I still say the Order is

GURU
EURO
APAC
the original non foil ARENA

Euros especailly the Holland pic rock.  Though even the Euros and APACs have some pretty bad art.  (Rush forests come to mind)

There is a problem with having all of your Basic Lands as Alpha cards if you can tell the difference between them though your sleaves.

But has it's been pointed out before, how many basics are you really going to run?If you run 2 Alpha cards in your deck, are you really going to get in trouble in T1 for that?

There is always a potential for trouble if you have a marked card.

If you keep your sleaves fresh you shouldn't have a problem though.

Which is why sleeves are such a good business Smile.

In my opinion, Alpha/Beta are the pimpest land with a few exceptions.  Why? They have:

1) the thickest black frame

2) the most flavorful inset.

3) the richest/darkest colors.

4) are the oldest and instantly recognizable.

The only exceptions are:

1) The Arabian Nights Mountain which has a sword on it.

2) the Foil Beta picture Island

I do like the Island with the serpent on it, but it takes a bit to beat out what I've mentioned.

Ignoring the "pimp factor" for a moment, I would like to assert which lands I feel have the best ILLUSTRATIONS, ignoring other factors such as foiledness, chineseness, superexpensiveness, etc.:

Obviously, these are all from saga (I think there are better forest illustrations in other sets, and I am not so confident about the plains):

#338, island
#341, swamp
#344, mountain

Okay, so there is somewhat of a pimp factor also.

Avon is a brilliant illustrator, and the combination of his awesomeness and the extra assload of ink they put on Saga cards makes these very cool. I have versions of that one swamp that look blue, purple, and black, which is really sweet. In addition, there are foil versions of the island (I don't know if they are misprints or what) without the expansion symbol, which doesn't sound like it would look cool but it does on a foil. And all the foils are promos so they are hard to get as well :P

[EDIT: The Odyssey plains with the clouds and the dude is really sweet. If anyone has those foil saga islands w/o the symbol, trade them to meee!]

The Saga lands are the best non pimped foiled ones like Machinus said.

The best island is the one with the storm, #335 I believe.  I also agree that Swamp #341 is the best swamp.

I used to have one of those Islands and it was signed too.  I didn't know how rare it was until I look at some online stores' pricing on it.  It was going for like $30.  I'm pretty sure it was an arena foil but without the symbol it was awesome.

It was a misprint, nobody knows exactly how many made it out, but it's estimated to be 1/25th of the actual Foil Saga Island population.

That being said, I'm completely and totally in agreement with Steve.  I use Beta lands for any and all basic land need, with the only competition coming from Foil versions of the same pictures (and occasionally Eurolands).

The only exception to this rule is the Foil Odessey Plains with the thunderclouds and the little dude in the foreground.  Badass.

wicketsnatcher brought up something interesting a couple months back.  IF you've ever seen the promo plains that's just a bunch of sunflowers, imagine a casual deck (because who plays plains for real?  come on now) that runs like all sunflower plains for land.  Now imagine the late game.  Their side of the board would look so... weird, but somehow awesome.  And by awesome I mean totally sweet.

Does anyone actually have any Guru Lands? I was given 2 by a friend who didn't know their value (neither did I at the time). I also got one for a Razormane Masticore LoL~. I have 1 Island and 2 Plains of sweet Guru-tasticness.

I've got a couple islands, a mountain, two forests, and a swamp.

I actually want a guru plains just to finish the set, but it's one of those things sooooooo far beyond my list of priorities (which include obtaining some french cards to make my build of gay/red the gayest, and completing my type four stack) that it will probably never get done.
