I've never played D&D, but I was linked to this on another board

http://www.khopesh.com/dnd/sim3e.html

Phil
STR: 11
DEX: 11
CON: 10
INT: 16 +3
WIS: 13 +1
CHR: 10

I guessed my IQ at 125, because every ten points on the scale is a standard deviation, and I figure I'm in the top few percent. Sometimes the lack of an "Average" option is annoying, but oh well, it was amusing enough.

I got:

STR: 10
CON: 12
DEX: 14
INT: 17
WIS: 16
CHA: 15

which is pretty close to what I usually to roll for myself when I play RPGs (although I drop my STR to 8 or 9, which is more accurate since I should definitely be taking a penalty to it.)  The WIS on this one is higher than I've ever gotten on any of these random tests before, though.  Usually they only give me +1 or +2.

Strength: 14 +2
Dexterity: 16  +3
Constitution: 17 +3
Intelligence: 20  +5
Wisdom: 19   +4
Charisma: 17 +3

It's every 15 points on the scale for a standard deviation, btw.  A 130 IQ is the top 2% of a normal population.

I would totally play me as a character. I'd actually have a bunch of levels in fighter and enough to take the duellist prestige class and then some.

This really makes me want to calculate out the feats I'd have. Where's my PHB?

Edit: I am a supergeek, yes, but here is my level and feats as near I can figure them, based on the 3.5 PHB and things I have actually done:

Fighter 6, Duelist 7:

Feats:

Blind-Fight (grappling)
Dodge
Mobility
Spring Attack
Power Attack
Cleave
Great Cleave
Combat Reflexes
Two-Weapon Fighting
Two-Weapon Defense
Weapon Finesse
Weapon Focus (rapier)
Weapon Focus (dagger)

Base attacks per round: +13/+8/+3
Base Saves: Fort: +7, Ref: +7, Will: +4

Special Class Skills:

Canny Defense
Improved Reaction
Enhanced Mobility
Grace
Precise Strike +1d6
Acrobatic Charge
Elaborate Parry

I feel that this little calculation program is seriously flawed without dick size category and "donkey sized" option.

Seriously, what is the difference between tolerance to pain and resistance to injury?  This is so funny.

Pain tolerance is your ability to function after injury (e.g., running on a sprain).

Resistance to injury is your ability not to get hurt (e.g. stepping in the hole and not spraining your ankle in the first place).

This pretty much makes sense to me.  I was worried I might not be being honest with myself, but the results I got aren't much different from what I expected.

Yes! I'm a whimp as expected:

Strength: 12 (+1)
Dexterity: 8 (-1) (no, I will not rifle shuffle your cards)
Constitution: 12 (+1)
Intelligence: 17 (+3)
Wisdom: 16 (+3)
Charisma: 11 (-)

Seems a nice character to play.

So, everyone (except Dr. Sylvan) seems so typically above average?

I gave myself a lot of Below Averages on physical stuff, because I'm honest. I think there's a tendency to set things to "Above Average" even when you're not, because people see a six-point scale and think a two is abominable. Since not everyone treats these qualitative scales the same way, comparing a bunch of peoples' self-stats is difficult.

That and this is uber nerdy....stuff like this is why people make fun of Internet users...really do any of us have any idea how resistant to injury we are?  I assume they mean real injuries like a beating or a gunshot wound.  I guess the run of the mill stubbed toe and splinters we all get are insufficient.

I pretty much used "real life" things I've done and used my ten years of regular DMing to adjudicate guesses. Most of my estimates were based on wrestling, rapier fighting, and academia.

For example, I know my max press is 180 .lbs. Easy.  I also know that when I was wrestling, I was stronger than maybe 9 in 10 people in my weight class, which was 171 at the time. I did mostly "very good" for this.

I once had a chiropractor ask me how I was able to walk around with my back in the shape it was, so I'm pretty confident that my pain tolerance is very high.  I almost never get sick and go to the doctor even less. I wrestled for 6 weeks with a partially torn biceps, and when I started to have carpal tunnel-like symptoms a few years ago I never missed a fencing practice because of it.

My aim, balance, and coordination is enough to make me a fairly respected fencer and a regular tournament victor/placer. I can put the tip of my blade through a hole the size of half dollar while it's moving. Regularly. I'm pretty good at voiding my body around attacks, and I once fought someone while we were both standing on a see-saw.

I was getting an learning disability screen in college, and my intelligence tests placed me in the overall 99.96th percentile. You have an approximately 0.5% chance of rolling an 18, which is the 99.5th percentile.

My memory (except for short term and auditory, which is where my LD turned out to be), intuition, retention, processing, reasoning, etc. all fell within the 97-99% range, with no decimal places included on that same test, which was professionally administered. My willpower is pretty good, I'd say, and I'm obviously stubborn.

After consulting several different females, I gave myself a Very Good on appearance. As far as leadership, initiative, and so forth, I ranked highly because I *am* regularly put into positions of leadership in combat scenarios, my orders are followed, and I have awards for martial ability, leadership, and being a role-model.

In general, I expect athletes to have higher physical scores, and average TMD people to have higher INT scores than an average random person.

STR    12(+1)
DEX    11(-)
CON    13(+1)
INT     16(+3)
WIS    12(+1)
CHA    9(-1)

And I think it's being very generous.

I'm totally going to go paladin with these scores...er, wait...do they still have that silly LG alignment restriction?  Real estate sales = non-LG alignment  Sad

If any of you have seen Marc any time recently, you'll know that his estimation of a 15 STR is damn silly. Guy has at least a 17-18 if the max score for an attribute here is 20.

Str: 16
I can bench 340 and squat 450. I consider a 600 squat the minimum requirement for an 18 str.

Dex: 10
I weigh 235 and am not especially fast or agile, once i finish cutting to 220 I'll be an 11.

Con: 12
I have higher than average bone density and do regular cardiovascular work. I can run for about 3 miles at a good pace.

Int: 18
I have a 170 IQ on the stanford test and similar results on some unofficial higher normed tests (mega, titan, etc). My degree is in mathematics and computer science, and I do 3d graphics programming for a living so I do int-based work on a daily basis.

Wis: 11
I have an occasional insight, but I am no guru.

Cha: 14
I am self confident, good looking, and well groomed.

All those points add up to more than 80.  That character is broken and needs to be restricted.  Man, the shortbus players are really just very well suited for adventuring.

The only problem is the combination of high Int and high Str don't really have a strong associated base class.  I guess you'd go wizard since you have an 18 int, but that seems like such a waste.  You should try to leverage your strength into your class somehow.

For me, going paladin is a no brainer because I can leverage my above average str, wis, and char scores.  Ideally I'd want a better con, but it's not like it's really not worth it to me to increase that ability score given what would have to happen to really boost it beyond the 12 range.  I mean, I'm healthy, I do an hr of cardio on my off days at the gym, but it's not like I'm paying Tank Abbot to beat me up once a week so I can toughen up.

Another great thing about Paladin is that I don't have to worry about meaningless ability scores like Int.  I honestly can't imagine a more worthless attribute; it doesn't effect saves, it doesn't effect combat, it doesn't effect your spot, listen, concentration, bluff, sense motive, or tumble skills (ie. the good skills).  Unless the DC of your spells are going off it, who cares about int?

My only concern about paladin is that I may not qualify for the class due to alignment restrictions...If I don't qualify for it I'll probably end up going sorcerer and then just pump charisma all the way.  That seems like kind of a waste to me, but if that's the best I can do given what I'm working with so be it.

The thing to keep in mind is that in 3E, an 18 isn't that great. In 2E, an 18 was just broken (18 STR vs. 17, for example!) and your stats never change. In 3E, a higher stat has less value, is easier to get, and has less meaning as a result. So under 2E, 18 STR was Conan, but under 3E 18 STR is more like "linebacker".  Not common, but not 1 in a million either.

Military Press is what is used to calculate STR, since it describes max press as the most you can lift over your head without walking around.

Actually, since an 18 was 1:256 chance, having an 18 in a stat isn't nearly as badass as they make it sound.  When you're talking about modern populations (how many million in a city?) there are probably a few dozen uber-characters in the same ZIP code.

I always assumed that a character is automatically from an above-average pool of people. In Rifts (the RPG I probably have the most experience with), they explicitly say that player characters are way, way awesomer than average people, so even if 1/256 PCs has a stat, that's a couple orders of magnitude more impressive than saying that it's 1/256 of regular people.

I always feel weird when Im taking this tests.

On strenght, Im quite slim, but way more strong than many people that in ordinary sight you'd think are far stronger than me, but I broke my right arm twice when I was 15, and it didnt heal all that well, now, when I use some considerable amount of strenght my arm starts to hurt, and if it was a lot of strenght it can hurt for a couple of weeks, sometimes it also (this is kinda wicked) like, bends a little. I still know how to fight and how to land some good hits, but punching someone will make my arm and fist hurt for a while.

On condition, I can resist running for a long while and I have a lot of determination so I usually keep at a good level for quite a while, on the wrong side, I've been sick a lot in the past 2 years

Dexterity is also like that, I have a decent ability for musical instruments and other stuff, but Im way too clumsy with pretty much everything else. And I have the most awesome reflex save ever, or I always roll natural 20s irl, go guess.

And, well, stuff like that on every stat but int, so I dont really know what to answer most of the time. Is anybody else on my situation?

Strength: 11

I am no heavyweight. Last month I finally started benching my weight (135-140). I feel that's good considering I started out a year ago just benching 50!pounds. Give me another year, and this stat will be different.

Dexterity: 12 +1

I am small and slim. I fucking owned @ dodgeball, in terms of always being the last guy having to face 5+guys on the other side because no one could hit me. I have since had my reaction time slowed down though because I gained some weight, so I tried to reflect that.

Consitution: 12 +1

Hardly ever get sick, hardly get colds, and I've never gotten any major injuries (worst was shin splints). I am however, not super-hardy. I think I would degrade fast if left to my own devices out in the woods for instance. I'm not sure, as I've never had to do that, so I just went on the safe side.

Intelligence: 12 +1

Okay is everyone here on TMD a super genius or something? Or did I just not do this part right, because by looking at this, I feel stupid. I'm not stupid, but I'm not especially gifted in any areas as well. I'm average, but there is no "Average" option, you're either above or below Rolling Eyes so I went above on most of the options.

Wisdom: 11

Yup, I don't have much to offer.

Charisma: 10

Ditto. I'm just another face in the crowd.

Holy shit my stats suck. I think I'll just stick to farming.

I guess we are elitist because we are the elite!!

I would be interested to see how the stats would change if they changed the scales to 9 pointers with 5 being average. The English are known for 'middling' whilst Yanks are 'extremists'.

Funnily enough those stats are pretty good as I am good at just about anything but not great at anything.

P.S. Regarding IQ, it is painful to think of how many dumb people there are (see any election result anywhere in the world or see how which TV shows get most viewers). I think knowing the difference between 'lose' and 'loose' puts you in the elite bracket. It hurts when I deal with people that need a calculator to work out 12000 minus 4000. These people are the majority. Understand that even the stupid people on the internet are probably above average and you realise just how dumb the human race is. Oh Brave New World...

There was a thread on SAT scores a while back that kerz started...

http://www.themanadrain.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=17668&highlight=

Based on the scores a lot of the regulars were posting, I'd say yeah, everyone (or at least most of the regulars) here on TMD is a super genius Smile

But don't worry about it Magi, take comfort in your ignorance as I have.  Int is an absolutely terrible ability score that really does nothing for non-mages and non-thieves.  And keep in mind having a 10 is all you need to avoid penalties to your rolls.  Personally, if I could, I would take points out of Int and up my Con.  Con is SOOOO much better than Int, especially at the lower levels.
