My second baby is due in early February. So far we don't know the sex although I think it will be a boy, although my wife thinks it will be a girl.
We had little problem chosing Rebecca Ashley for the first one but this time round, the choices don't appeal. Favourites so far are Matthew and Nicolas.
Are there any Matts or Nicks out there who want to give a thumbs down or up? Luckily my wife isn't into Slovak names so it won't be Radovan or Ladislav!
Anyone got any good names (MaRo NO!)
My surname is Saunders for those who care.

Matthew is a wonderful name. Means 'gift of the lord,', and has a ready and easy to use nickname ('Matt'). Also, it works well with every last name I've ever heard (though some last names work better with 'Matthew' than 'Matt'). 'Matt Saunders' doesn't roll off the tongue but 'Matthew Sauders' does, for instance. The large first letter also makes an impression in print form, and it's fun to write in cursive letters (try it!).

Aaron is a great name for a male. It means Lofty, exalted, and high mountain. Biblically, Aaron was Moses' older brother (and keeper by God's command). He was first high priest of the Israelites, remembered for the miraculous blossoming of his staff or rod. Its origin is Hebrew, and the name itself isn't very common (like Matt is). I feel that having an uncommon name is an excellent thing, it shows individuality and creativity in the parent's name-giving skills. (Note the differences between "uncommon" names and " random" names).
Aaron Saunders rolls off the tounge well.
For a Female, I like Paige, Lee, or Jessica.

Anyone got any good names Travis is a good name for either gender, although it's more common for boys. Apparently, it's FRENCH, and means "the traveller", "at the crossroads", and/or "purgatory".

Ian.
Ian is Scottish for John/Jon/Jean/Juan/Johan/Johann/Ivan.
I forget if it means right hand of god, or lamb of god.
Male name, obviously.

If I were you and it were a girl, I would name it Sarah. I've always been partial to that name. That or Jessica.
As for boys, I have no idea. No names jump out as being particularly interesting.

I would take it as a personal insult if you didn't name him (or her) Bram.
And yeah, Sarah and Jessica are both really hot names. Having sex with a Sarah and a Jessica simultaneously is one of the great goals in my life.

My sister's name is Sarah :< She is DEF not someone you want to be with. As for names... I think the name Xavier is kind of cool. I also like Alexander. Conner is good too. As for girls, I met this wicked hot punk rock chick about a year back who's name was Erineh(pronouned Air in A), though I'm not sure how it was spelled. Jessica is nice, but overdone. Natalya is kinda cool too.

Matthew, Nicolas, Ian are in the hunt. Aaron and Travis don't appeal.
I like Sarah and Jessica too but over here Sarah would ger pronounced
SA-RACH and Jessica as YES-SISA. Besides which it won't be a girl.
BTW it can't be Freddie as our 1.40m (about 4 1/2 foot) iguana is called that (after Freddie from Nightmare on Elm Street - he has savage claws)

Congratulations.
I'm also having a child (well, not me personally) in February so we're going through the same deal. (our 3rd, most likely a boy also)
We already have a Nicholas and Noah, we were going to go with the N theme, but we're ready for a change.
So far we have Brock, Andrew (drew), or Sandbox. Well, sandbox was Noah's idea.
Good luck, it's neat to see different names thrown around.

Rian. Obviously.
Old Greek names are obviously gassy, but Agamemnon is not something that you'd probably be able to pronounce very well there. At least it's not fucking Hungarian.

Depending on how you translate it from Sanskrit, "Mitesh" means: 1. He who is omnipotent and all powerful or 2. He who posesses everything he desires and wants for nothing Either way...it's not to shabby Q!

I'm unsure about a boys name. You have to give him a pimp name.

I get the feeling some of you aren't taking this seriously. Roy. Roy Spires. I won 3 local tournaments with a deck with 4 Sedge Trolls (prize - every booster from AQ to IA) so I feel a debt to the mighty Troll but somehow naming the baby Roy or Spires seems a price too high.

On the off chance I ever manage to produce offspring I'd name it either Loes or Nathalie if it was a girl (and put it up for adoption if it was a boy :-)

I am partial to Valentine for both genders. Avoid:
Yuppie names
Names that cannot be shortened
Names that rhyme with naughty bits or sound like they should
Misspellings of real names (THIS IS NOT CREATIVE) (Exception: Serra)
Also, choosing names with multiple common spellings. Nobody wants to introduce themselves all the time as Lindsey with an E.
Naming a girl with a boy's name
Naming people after geographic locations
Names from popular fantasy or scifi (I knew a kid named Anthor. Frowns.)
As far as naming goes, I don't think you can really go wrong with a Saint's name, though I am not Catholic. By virtue, lists of saints are like chronological lists of what name was cool when. Thomas, Andrew, Peter, Anselm, Olaf, Teresa, and my big favorite, the aforementioned Valentine (I wonder if my screenname has anything to do with that...)
Remember that you can always do the awesome middle name with a normal first name and let your kid choose which they want when they get older. Old family names are hot as well; I am Douglas Griffith Linn. I suppose I am biased...

I was born on Valentine's Day nineteen hundred and %$@#%$#&%^# and was almost named Valentino/Valentine etc. I know I would have hated it (especially if Daniel had been added as a middle name, VD as initials is not cool, DJ is much better).
Ray is interesting, I hadn't thought of that one.
Regarding Matthieu, it is French and I feel I must boycott any French names whilst MTGPics continues its neglect of all things Portal.
I should point out that here in Slovakia, although much has been reformed, there are still many legacies of times gone by where the state controlled everything. There is an official list of allowable names and if you want to use something else you have to prove it is a correct name (meaning correct for that sex and a correct spelling) and the local registry has to accept it (luckily they are OK and don't expect bribes although I have heard of such things elsewhere). Rebecca was OK (despite the Slovak spelling of Rebeka being more popular) but we needed a British Embassy letter confirming that Ashley is a girl's name. My wife hates me watching football, and in particular any Arsenal/England games where the commentator's refer to Ashley Cole especially when there is no other Cole playing. So weirdo names would be difficult to use as are wrong-sex names. Names that are off the list due to family friends: James, Gregory, Silvester, Jaroslav, Daniel, Russell, Boris Zuzana (Suzanne), Rebecca, Ashley, Natasha, Sophie, Pearl

Anselm Dude, c'mon. You can't seriously go around naming people Anselm. It's like calling someone Adson or something. That shit died out with the bubonic plague, man. To add to Hi-Val's list of no-no's, please avoid alliteration with your last name. By the way, my ex girlfriend gave her kid a name based on the following criteria: 1. the name must not appear in any Dutch name books. 2. the name must not alliterate with her last name. 3. the name must not rhyme with swearwords and the like. 4. the name MUST be prone to misspellings. She herself has to spell her name with everyone she meets: 'Anoek' with 'Oh Eeh' (hmm...this might not make sense to Americans. Usually it's spelled Anouk). She derived pleasure from this, somehow. Don't deny your kid the same :-) So how 'bout Bram? You live closer to Transsylvania than I do so that must add some extra flavor :-)
