My guess would have to be that it is Ashnod, or some miser.

It's DEFINITELY not Ashnod. That style of dress is the Academy style, as seen on numerous other cards. The Academy wasn't even founded until some two millenia after Ashnod died. There is almost no one it is less likely to be.

Worms of the Earth is the best art ever, as it depicts me doing what I usually do when I am not playing magic: slamming stuff into the ground. Anson Maddocks was great.

Does anyone knows the reason why they don't use the old artwork for cards? I mean, let's take Underwrld Dreams. The Legends one is pretty cool so why did they change it at 8th edition? For the players or is it a money issue with artists?

It's both, but mostly money issues.

The old artist had some sort of contract that allowed for them to keep some of the rights to the paintings they did. I believe it was a deal where Wizards payed them per card it was published on. Wizards wanted to back out on those deals for obvious reasons (increased printing run size etc.). In some cases (drew tucker) they just did the popular thing and not print anymore of his brilliant artwork.

I guess I am not sure if I think that it is fair to think of Magic paintings as artwork.  They have neither abstract beauty of Kandinsky's work (of whom I think of as the apotheosis of abstract painting) nor the starkness and realism of Rembrandt.  So "artwork" is really not something I would apply to Magic paintings.  PS: Keep your relativism arguments to yourself or PM.

That said, in terms of Magic paintings, which I think are okay fantasy art, I would have to agree with Matt in that Glory is amazing.  Negator, in my mind, is a whorish rip off HG Giger's Alien design.  Plagarism is never a good thing.

I do dare say that not all artwork is Kandinsky or Rembrandt... If you think that for a painting to be art it has to be Rembrandt, lemme just say it's a good thing you're a lawyer and can make money enough to decorate your walls.

For the rest of us, all that exemplifies beauty is art, and as such, any good piece of Nielsen's or Guay's imagination will sate our desire for art.

What's up? No love for John Avon?

I typically play with nothing but these basic lands.

Plains 1
Island 2
Swamp 3
Mountain 2
Forest 3

AH IT'S NEW LAND, IT BURNS US MY PRECIOUS.  Seriously, I hate like all of the land from saga to scourge(except the saga islands).  Mirage land it where it's at.  Check out Duglas Shuler's mirage islands they own.  (I prefer most of the older land, most ice age stuff ect is good, also of course BB alpha/beta land is cool, but any of the newer stuff like after tempest I usually don't like)  Mirrodin block land is ok when it's foil.

Ummm, lets see; there is so much cool art I have no idea where to start and curses that I don't have a photographic memory.

some good:
exalted angel
global ruin
thirst for knowledge
judgement wishes
flying men
channel
derraged hermit
phyrexian warbeasts
poweder keg
commander eesha
luminous angel
polluted delta
tropical island
soul sculptor

Anything that resembles a dragon and that is done by Wayne England is good. Look at Worldgorger Dragon and Stone-Tongue Basilisk.

Other good art:

Mana Vortex
Junun Efreet
Eureka
Humility
Blood Frenzy
Bottle Gnomes (Both Tempest and Mirrodin)
Final Fortune (7th Edition)
Sol Ring
Armageddon (Portal)

Diamond Valley (I know its been mentioned by its my favorite card of all time.)

Worst Art = Word of Command

I know this won't happen in a tournament, but if my opponent has Chaos Orb in his hand while I'm controlling his turn from a Mindslaver, who flips the card if I force him to play it and activate it?

I asked RK Post about it, and I'm waiting for his reply.

That's kinda like the guy who asked Shatner for the code to his safebox in the Tholian Web episode at a trekkie convention.

and he replied with, "Dunno if it was ever mentioned anywhere.  For my money, Morphling is a chick"

Okay, so the Ashnod idea still stands, kinda.

I've got a framed print of Unmask, with a foil in the corner of the frame. I also have a Song of Serenity the same way that I got for my fiancee.

For playing, I have a Necropotence that Mark Tedin modified with "Niktu, Baratu, Grpul, Ahem!" (from Evil Dead) which I always thought was pretty neat.
