The prize support is fucking insane!  Is it open to people from out of the country?  If I can scrounge up all the cash I need for moving in May, and I have enough extra, I might fly out for that.

OMG

I will definately be there!!!

Toaddy I hope I can stay @ your house Wink.

Is the attendance limited?

And why don't you spread the P9 between all the Top8 members? It sounds a far better deal to me.

First off, this looks insane, and I __MIGHT__ be able to magically get tickets to Paris for this

Second, I'd really only be willing to do that if the prize structure were slightly modified. It's totally pimp. However, if you look 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th place Powered all get screwed royally on prize support in terms of raw $ value. I'm not saying that the prizes aren't good, but like, 1st place gets somewhere around $8-10k USD, and 8th place gets $440 USD totalled. Compare this with Unpowered 1st, which gets $1,000 US, and unpowered 8th, which walks away with $450-500 USD. Seems kindof ridiculous to me. Also, wouldn't it be better to just spread the power out among the top8 finishers rather than give it all to 1st place?

I also was kindof scared by this:

5th place gets 1 beta balance + 1 bazaar, total value ~$250 US. Plus the boxes and others would get you to ~$500 US. That is only $60 US away from 8th place. Compare with the 1st place prize, and the discrepancy is really huge.

Is that byes for European Gencon?  I thought the Gencon's were sanctioned.  When did they start awarding byes?

Wow again.

Wow...

I haven't seen anything like this before... too bad the tickets will cost $1000 or more... but still... this is incredible...

Wow again. I am actually thinking about flying over. Maybe I should prod diceman, too...

Tickets really aren't that expensive.  I've been poking around on a couple websites, and most of the rates begin around 650 or so.

That said, I either need to get hired for a job like today, or get my folks to pay for a chunk of the trip to make it happen.  Both are a little more than unlikely, but I'm sure as hell going to try.

Is there anywhere where we can confirm the legitimacy of this event? I just called WotC and the person who attended to my inquiry informed me that WotC hasn't sanctioned a T1 event in the last 5 years. How awesome is that?

Anyways, I'd just like some reassurance that this prize structure is guaranteed and that this company is reputable. It would really suck to fly over from Canada to find that the event is not operating in accordance with how it has been advertised.

Rich, the tourney is for real. I'm one of the founders of Eternal Magic France, with 4 other french players, including Serge Metz, who you might have heard about already. We have full support (including for prizes) of the French DCI.

If you still have some concerns, send an email to Damien Guillemard, guilled@hasbro.fr, he's the french DCI manager.

Words are not enough to describe the prize structure, so I will not make an attempt.

I hope the organization has thought of what to do when the 400 preinscriptions are completed.

I LARGE percentage of these pre-inscriptions will NOT appear. That is what happens always and everywhere when inscription is for free.

You will need to make a reserve list. A lot of people will not even come to the tournament when they have no guarantee of entering, so that rules out any people that live far away from Paris.

O well, you go figure that out Smile

EDIT: I guess the walk for the 8th unpowered is heavily beat Very Happy

IŽd love to, but no. A couple of years ago I would have come without hesitation, but a wife and two children further I do not have that freedom anymore.
There will be two T1 tourneys in May, one in Barecelona and one in my hometown Igualada, so no need to travel 900 km to play.

Good luck with it.

It will be awesome.

Since somebody should complain: why don't they just draft the beta p9 among the T8? Now the prize structure is EXTREMELY skewed in my opinion.
