I'm a huge fan of John Avon's work, it's unfortunate that the artwork on lifeburst and annex had to be on such ass terrible cards. His lands are amazing as well including a number of the invason lands as well as barbarian ring.

I also like Ed Beard, Ben Thompson, Mark Poole and Randy Gallegos. I had the opportunity to meet all these artists at Gencon and they all did fantastic work on my playmat for a very reasonable cost.

It should also be fairly obvious that I'm a Christopher Moeller fan, although I more so picked this avatar for the flavor text than the artwork to be honest.

Can you guys even imagine how hot it would have been if Amy Weber or Drew Tucker had gotten a shot at doing a series of basic lands?

I have to throw in my support for John Avon.

His representation of landscapes is truly amazing. The Unhinged forest is one of my personal favorites.

I'm also more fond of the older artwork, but I agree with Matt that Kamigawa block was a step in the right direction.

Mark Poole made some great art in the day. Note, art. Not comic strips like many of the new cards.

I would say John Avon and rk post.

John's landscape and light effects are just amazing. rk post's pics are really really well drawn and I like his painting.

Also, I can't deny I just love the old pics..
There are so many great pics! Even old artists moderned their art into such a great art.
Christopher Rush for exemple :

All those pics are from www.magicthegathering.com and are property of Wizards.

My vote is for puddnhead.  Once I saw the art on his cards, I had to get them all in regular and foil.  Do you have any idea how hard it was to get a foil Troll Ascetic during Mirrodin block?

the unholy strength is what caught my eye.  I still need a foil 8th edition.

Oh and for the person the mentioned dark rituals... for some reason I like the 5th edition one the most.

i wanna turn it into a life counter by pasting the pic onto one of those plastic dual ones so the life totals are just under his arms.  But don't worry guys, I still use my beta playset at tournaments Smile

Saga Dark Ritual is TOTALLY the best, though mirage, tempest, ice age, and the original are all close. Masques was weakand I really didn't care for the 5th/6th ed. one.

New question: favorite counterspell?

Mine is Ice Age, hands down. Fifth/Sixth/Starter edition is the weakest. Arena is the nicest card but we're talking artwork here.

As far as Dark Rituals go, it's the Masques version all the way.  It was drawn by Rebecca Guay AND comes in foil, so it is inherently the best.  Anyone who disagrees with me is incorrect and suffer greatly. Wink  I won't be merciful the next time we play and stop the storm count at 12 or so.  Nope, I'll run it up as high as possible and see if I can top 75 spells (the most I've ever done in tournament play...ironically against Stax after I broke out of a 3sphere).  There will be much wailing and gnashing of teeth for you.
