The question is, how much will these be worth?
My guess is that for a few weeks after the prerelease, they'll sit around $25-$30 a piece, then drop to $20-$25 for the ones that people will be playing with in various formats, and $10-$20 for the others. Eventually the more useful ones will drop to around $20 and the less useful ones will sit around $10-$15. At that pricing, vintage players are still better off paying for regular duals... (which are MUCH better obviously) I don't understand why these make people want to play other formats (extended). Isn't it more fun to play with duals? Is it simply for the looks of the cards? I would hate to take a lightning bolt to the head just to fetch one of these and ancestral EOT.

Seriously, these are NOT going to be more than $20. It just isn't going to work that way. If there are 4 lands that run for $20+ as well as some other chase cards, then boxes will be torn open and sold so fast that the price will plummet again. Look at all the hot rares you know of in the last few years even. Cranial and Needle hit $25 and only briefly. They were also that expensive because it wasn't worth it to crack packs for money cards.
Ravnica looks like a set very much geared towards cracking packs for cash, so I forsee the value of these cards to be $8-12 tops. Again, fetchlands were playable in every format and Delta never got above $12. To elaborate on this: if I can spend $75 to get a box and sell off 4-5 cards and make my $75 back, the value will not stay like that at all. Pithing Needle is $20 because Saviors is full of trash. Jitte is $15 because Betrayers is full of trash. Rishadan Port was $20 because Masques was full of trash. Yawgmoth's Will is $10 because... Saga is full of awesome cards, which means that the price of individual cards is lower because you have to invest less money in buying packs to see a return on it. As an aside, is there a slang term for the following: buying X pounds of pot, selling Y amount of it to cover what you put into buying the pot, and smoking the rest for yourself. Not being a stonar, I am not sure of what it's called, but it's exactly what one could do with magic packs if the packs are worth more cracked than they are unopened (which I think they definitely will be in Ravnica; they were in Invasion).

A self-supporting habit? And yes, there are real duals outside of Revised. Quit reminding me before I feel the urge to buy them

Apocalypse was the King Set of high-power, high-value rares. I remember opening a box with friends, and drooling over the rares so much that we went and bought and cracked another one right then . Normally we'd buy singles and rely on winning packs, but that was one set where the trade value of everything was high enough to justify buying boxes.

Judgement was pretty nutty too. Three kinds of Wishes, Anurid Burushopper (for a time it was $10), Mirari's Wake, Genesis, and several pricey uncommons like Phantom Centaur, Cabal Therapy, Browbeat, Quiet Speculation, and Wonder.
Several other rares and uncommons eventually got used too - Fledglling Dragon, Death Wish, Glory, Phantom Nishoba, Solitary Confinement, Sutured Ghoul, Worldgorger Dragon, Riftstone Portal, and Anger. Judgement rocked.

For a brief time, the cards in an Invasion pack were worth more when exposed to light than hidden in a booster pack. Imagine now, being able to crack a pack from COK and have the contents worth $3.69. It's a fantasy. However, Ravnica will be a set that's profitable to crack, so I am really looking forward to winning packs. I know there are at least 5 cards that people will want (4 duals + dark confidant).

To elaborate on this: if I can spend $75 to get a box and sell off 4-5 cards and make my $75 back, the value will not stay like that at all. I think demand outweighs the supply in this case. These cards are going to be very very popular. The new "duals" will be 12-20 or 15-25 based on which one is more popular, and will slightly go down after rotation, but I don't say by much. I bought a few boxes of Onslaught, and I remember only getting 1-2 fetchlands a box, and not too many other good cards. And Onslaught was a good set (in my opinion) Jitte is $15 because Betrayers is full of trash. Jitte's are only $15.00 because you can buy Rat Theme decks for 12.50 and get a Jitte ... If they weren't in the theme deck, they'd be up higher than Pithing Needles, and Extractions. No question.

You forgot Birds. Anyone got a line on a Russian distributor yet? My favorite online store will get his hands on some Russian Ninth, and I fully expect them to offer Russian Ravnica, too. Otoh, it might just be cheaper to make a weekend trip to Moscow from here (it's only 2000 km), pick up a case of displays and sell them for hot prices all over Europe and the US. Russian Magic cards are the hottest ever! Dozer

You don't want boxes from the big sets, you want the smaller expansions, because they usually have a higher ratio of in-demand cards to crap cards. You can get exceptions (big Dragon cycles, for example), but by and large, that's the case.

Damn! This is exactly what extended Gro-a-tog needed but as soon as they will be legal the new rotation kicks in.  Oh well, there still awesome though. Looks like 5 color green will have all the mana fixing it could ever want in Standard. Painland, Sakura, Reach, BoP and these.

Not to mention, SUNDERING TITAN IS ROTATING OUT. 5c green sucked ass because TnN wrecked it's house with 1 card. I fully expect the Japanese/French to make a ridiculous 5c Gifts deck to break constructed. You get painless duals, the best acceleration and BOMBS like Meloku/Kagemaro.
