Metal Medic 1 Artifact Creature - Cleric
Discard a card from your hand: Regenerate target permanent with the same card type as the discarded card. (The card types are artifact, creature, enchantment, and land.)
When he turns your head, you better damn well cough.
1/1
Flavor text is NOT permanent obviously! The idea for the card is basically an automaton nurse who doesn't really differentiate artificial life from real; as long as it has the blueprints it can fix just about anything. Seeing as how it depends on you holding back resources I don't think a 1/1 for 1 is too good but I might be missing something. It just seemed like the place to start.

Metal Medic 2 Artifact Creature - Cleric
Tap, Discard an artifact or creature card from your hand: Regenerate target permanent with the same card type as the discarded card.
When he turns your head, you better damn well cough.
1/1
EDIT: Upped the CC to 2 and changed the wording to something more direct.

That wording should be more specific, so that you can't discard instants or sorceries.

Flavor-wise, since he's both made of metal and is a medic, should he only regenerate artifacts and artifact creatures?
also, I think it should either cost 2 to cast or have a mana cost in the activated ability.

But there are many cards which regen artifacts only and he was going for a macine that can heal biological creatures as well as repair machines.
I'm slightly concerned that a 1 mana creature allows you in combat to trade your worst cards for your opponents creatures. Need more opinions on power I think.

As far as I know, there has never before been a spell or effect that essentially read "Regenerate target permanent." It's new territory -- and I agree with Nova that it's probably fairly powerful. I would ere on the side of caution when costing this.

Did you know that Red is the color or art and music and passion? Combine that with Green, the color of nature, spiritualism, and community and you get a hippie commune of drum circles, dreamcatchers, and recreational drug use. Let's see that win a Pro Tour.

This is REALLY powerful, especially since he can protect himself (even more easily than other permanents, since he has two permanent types!)

I agree - I don't see any medic, especially a magical one and therefore without access to magic, should be able to repair anything that isn't an artifact or a creature (no enchantments or lands). I'd have more like: discard a creature or artifact card from your hand: regenerate target permanant that shares a type with the discarded card.. That way, the flavor is more that you're fixing something up from scraps. I'd also give this a tap cost, so it's tap + discard, and make him a 2 mana 1/1.

Maybe like this?:
Gene Substractor 1/1 1 Artifact Creature - Treasure (or Relic?)
During your upkeep discard a card from your hand or sacrifice Gene Substractor. Discard a card from your hand: Regenerate target permanent with the same card type as the discarded card. (The card types are artifact, creature, enchantment, and land.)
