mhm I think yes that chalice and Meddling Mage are very very difficult to play ... because you have to know very well metagame and your opponents deck.

Don't forget that in Type 1 you need to make " Scouting " to understand....these information and it's not easy at  the first turn of swiss know very well witch type of deck play your opponent.

Probably there're two difference between chalice and mage.... Chalice is very very strong at the first 3 turns.... Mage is strong from the first to the last turn.

My idea!

So Chalice is good because you can drop it at 0,1,2,and 3 all at once in a few turns?  Clearly, Chalice is good because it shows up in multiples of 3 and 4 every game.  And tell me what deck in the format can win through that?

No, chalice is good because you can drop it at 0, 1, 2 OR 3 depending on which you need at the time.  It plays a very different role at each setting.  It's deceptively flexible, much more so than meddling mage or a similar parralel.

I think JD was making this point.  I was making that point too, actually, but I think he misunderstood me, and rightfully so.  I wasn't being all that clear.

library hate (ie jester cap) is a very poor strategy against stax. if stax locks the game, they can win w anything: welder, monkey, bring, etc. the big artifact dudes are peripheral to the core strategy, and jimmy cap cant possibly disrupt the central locks.

Your story there was about how one time you had like 3 Chalices down by turn 2 or something.  Clearly, that beats every deck in the format and is pretty ridiculously good.  I didn't see the point of the story as anything other than "3 Chalices all at once is some good!"  That's pretty obvious already.

I've always viewed the big dudes as being game breakers before the lock is up.  Karn killing moxes or Sundering Ben wiping out all your lands is the killer, not the attacking power.  Once the lock is up, who cares whether Stax attacks for 1 or 4 each turn?

Yeah, sorry about the miscommunication.

Chalice's big selling point is that it's a versatile road block.  They should have just named it Road Block.

I actually had three chalices out turn one, and thanks to a Chalice/Workshop draw, I had four out in three turns.
