I'm told that attendance is 104.... not bad considering the weather issues in the Northeast.

If anyone has spoken to friends playing in the event, and has anything to report, please feel free to do in this thread.

I heard attendance was 108(?)? And my friend is 5-1 so I believe that attendance would be 7 rounds, so hopefully he can draw into top 8 with D4rg0n.

6 rounds and we get no news?

psu, does your friend have any news on the rest of the TMDers? How is Jorlove doing? Demars? Probasco? Laplante? Mastriano? Rian?

I'm currently undefeated, but unfortunately I'm also still in Boston.

Here is what I found out.  108 people he still thinks, so 7 rounds

"Guy" currently in first place heading into round 7 is playing gifts.
Demars has 15 points and can draw into top 8.
Probasco is in 16th place with 12 points.

Mastriano has 9 pts.

He couldn't find Laplante or Rian on the player list. (maybe dropped I dont know?)

My friend couldn't talk long so that is all I got, so basically top 8 is looking like Gifts, Dragon, Fish (he thought) and whatever else, he hadn't scouted any of the top decks yet.

Updates!

Diceman T8s with gifts
Demars T8s with oh hmm I didn't actually ask, but obviously Burning Slavery
One GWS Oath made T8
One U/w Fish made T8
1-2 additional slaver decks made it in.
2-3 people with mystery decks made it, too.

Diceman is Top-4. He's playing against a deck with Duress (... all i could get from SpecialK).

Apparently, there's a rude guy in the top-4 too (and it's not me... wtf!).

Ryan Treppanier (sigh) also made Top-8. Hell froze over.

The U/W Fish guy is Bryan Finch, the newest Ontario Vintage Champion, playing Old Faerie Men, but he lost to Diceman in the top-8.

Canada's only 3/8 today, that sucks. Sad

That's awesome that Finch (Evilkin on these boards) won at Rochester again with the SAME deck as last time, their list is pretty solid.

Treppanier made top 8 ??? wtf, even though he's a teammate, wtf? he doesn't even play T1 much lol (he only started T1 like 5 months ago) I always find it amusing when solid players pick up T1 on a whim and end up just winning. He is probably one of the people running Slaver as that is usually what he plays.

Only 3 Canadians this time WTF???!!! and I'm sure we were wayyyy less than 37% of the people there  Very Happy
Proving again that we really aren't just a bunch of randoms up here! and we can kick some vintage ass

Outlaw made top 8, and got knocked out by one of the canadians.

Diceman is playing gifts with transformational sb to oath.

I went 0-2 drop, Travis dropped in the mid rounds, as did Kowal. Ray was 17th.

The meta was like all fish and gifts. Like no stax, and little oath. I played two null rod fish decks and just got smoked.

I had fun except for the jackass canadian I played in round 3.  That red headed beady eyed joker almost got slapped right off his chair.  My highlight of the day was putting Ray's type 4 altered thundermare in my deck, and casting it on turn 1 of game 1 I played in round 1.  Also having 3 judges at my table in round 2 to see how fastbond/crucible/glacial chasm works and them being completely amazed by it like it's never been done.

Grats to T money for making another top 8 and to Ugo for making a repeat top 8 appearance at Rochester.  NY loves canadians !

Wow, that HAS to be Ryan Treppanier. It could only be him. Welcome to our world  Confused

And yes, grats to the canadians, for 3/8'ing the T8, and to brave not only ONE but TWO winter storms to get there Smile

Oops my bad apparently Ugo won so that is HALF the top 8 being Canadian! how many people out of that 100 were Canadian? 15? 20?

all yall Americans really need to polish your game for any events that the Canucks are attending

what i have heard so far:
Ugo Won (C. Slaver),
a guy named Jeff came 2nd with Oath,
Brian Demars came 3rd with Burning Slaver,
4th was Peter O with Gifts (oath transform).

5-8 Ryan Trep CS, Outlaw, Evilkin UW fish, and ?

The only reason we allowed Ryan Treppanier across the border was so that we could leave him in the seediest part of New York State (Harlem, maybe?), with a giant sign across his chest, a-la Die Hard with a Vengeance. Razz Guess that didn't happen... Smile

Anyhow, grats to Ugo, the rest of the top-8, and to everyone that could make it, from those of us that couldn't... Sad

I'm one of Ugo's teamate

He played Control Slaver with 3 maindeck Mana Leak (He cut Lighting Greaves, Gifts Ungiven and a Welder I think). Ugo was 5-0-2 after Swiss. In top 8, he beated Gifts (With Time Vault / Flame Fusillade ). In top4, he beated Burning Slaver and Oath int the final. The top8 was:

Control Slaver vs Burning Slaver (Brian Demars)
Control Slaver (Ugo) vs Gifts
Oath (Jeff) vs Dragon
Oath (DicemanX) vs U-W Fish

The top4:
Burning Slaver (Brian Demars) vs Control Slaver (Ugo)
Oath (DicemanX) vs Oath (Jeff)

Final
Control Slaver (Ugo) vs Oath (Jeff)

One of our Teamate (Lany Labot Laroche) finished 9th because he drew last round (He had little chance of not making top8 with the tiebreakers). He played Bomberman.

Oops my bad apparently Ugo won so that is HALF the top 8 being Canadian! how many people out of that 100 were Canadian? 15? 20?

True!  Very Happy  We were 5 from Québec and I think there were 10-15 Ontarians. Having half top8 is really good!! Wink

I was there, and the final round featured one of the most ridiculous game breaking Fact or Fictions I've ever seen.

It was Oath vs. Control Slaver as noted above.
Oath was on the board but neither player had any creatures and there were no orchards in play either.

Fact or Fiction resolves and flips up:

Blood Moon
Goblin Welder
Tinker
Mana Drain
Force of Will

I can't remember exactly how the piles were split, but I know the Blood Moon went to the CS player's hand.  I think the counter magic went to the graveyard with the tinker.

Blood Moon resolved shortly later.

From what I could see, both players were playing very well.
If there were any error in the above, complain loudly and I'll fix them of course.

I was wondering how CS beat Oath.  Oh man, Blood Moon is really rough on Oath.  I guess some people do remember SB cards from 2 years ago Sad

I'm really curious as to what changes were made to the deck.  Leaks or Chalices.  Pithing Needle or no.  I can't wait to see if he found any new FING NUT card.

Oath (DicemanX) vs U-W Fish

I haven't see his list, but Peter was telling me about his deck last weekend.  It is Gifts with a transformational SB into Oath.  His maindeck is gifts though.

It really was an awesome tournament, and I had an absolute blast.

Horray for infinate Long Island Iced Tea's at the bar, 'Tipsy McStumbles,' or whatever that place was called, with Jeff Ananad and his crew!

Can't wait until Richmond!

And yes, I was playing Bslavery.

The exact piles for that Fact or Fiction was:  Blood Moon + Mana Drain  / Welder + FoW + Thinker.  Ugo waited 2 (or 3??) turns to cast the Blood Moon to have it back with the drain. For those who want the decklist of Ugo, here it is:

4 Force of Will
4 Mana Drain
3 Mana Leak

Manipulation (7) :
4 Brainstorm
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor

Broken (9) :
4 Thirst for Knowledge
1 Fact of Fiction
1 Tinker
1 Time Walk
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Yawgmoth’s Will

Utility (1)
1 Echoing Truth

Win Condition (8 ) :
3 Goblin Welder
1 Platinum Angel
1 Mindslaver
1 Triskelion
1 Crucible of Worlds
1 Seat of the Synod

Manabase (24) :
1 Sol Ring
1 Black Lotus
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mana Crypt
4 Polluted Delta
3 Island
3 Volcanic Island
2 Underground Sea
1 Flooded Strand
1 Tolarian Academy
1 Libray of Alexandria

that list honestly looks terrible.

Mana Leak?  Blood moon?  Canada?  WTF
The crucible + artifact land/strip mine is ass, because pentivus can actually beat down.

Platinum Angel beats Oath, but it barely stalls other decks.  and it only beats oath that doesn't have bounce.

THREE goblin welders is a SERIOUS wtf.

This would have been downgraded to a verbal warning, because you added content to your post, but you deleted the moderator text, which means your warning stands.
