The big problem I have with their premium BS is that the internet is already expensive enough. It has nothing to do with the money, more what you actually get for it. Wait, what?

If you think the value of the articles is "nominal", go check out the archives from 3+ months ago (after 3 months, premium stuff turns free). But don't try to criticize it without at least reading what you'd be getting.

I find it highly amusing that this is a stickied thread. GET A LIFE, lol.
I mean, it's thirty dollars, for crying out loud. You would pay roughly the same for a magazine subscription. It's not like you need to read it to be competitive, either. Star City needs to make money to justify paying people to write articles. If they don't pay them, they won't write it anymore. Do you think that most of the people who write for SCG premium are going to share all this tech with you if they aren't getting paid? Of course not, they would just share it with their team mates, and then you'd all be back to square one.
The real problem is this: The internet spoils people into thinking that everything on it should be free. Once you have consumed infinity free music, movies, software, Nintendo games and Porno, it just seems like paying $30 to read someone's thought about Magic is absurd, but it's really not. The internet just makes you think that way.

Yeah, now people will get redirected to here every time they try to derail the discussion thread for a premium article.

Under communism everything is free for good citizens.
Of course everything soon turns to nothing but at least the price is right.
Why do you have to explain Capitalism to Americans? Don't you have it over there?

It is also essential that capitalists whine about prices so that corporations don't get the idea that can raise it whenever they damn well please...

Most whiners seem to think they should get it for free. Free is short for someone else paying or you ending up paying for it anyway. It is kind of like your boss saying you should work for free, you can understand why he would want that but surely he must realise you won't work for nothing?

You and your boss have come to an understanding about the value of your work and how you are to be compensated for that. Most whiners don't consider the premium information to be worth the $30. As good capitalists, they don't spend that money if they believe they aren't getting something that is worth it. I am one of those people who don't believe it is essential to have that information now, so I will wait the 90 days and read the articles then. Other people are welcome to disagree.

I totally agree with you and have chosen the same course of action. My disagreement is with people who want something for nothing and are upset when they don't get it

The premium accounts struck a bad chord with me when SCG's cancelled the live updates during the power tournaments. This is why I did not renew my account in Feb. SCG spent so much time stressing the fact that you would get live updates from the tournaments that a lot of people joined for this purpose alone. That was the only reason why I got a premium account.
The articles were OK... They were probably some of the best quality articles on the net, but I found that A LOT of the articles didn't deserve to be Premium. It seems like it was stuck there to fill an empty gap. That's fine now and then, but near the end, good articles were far and few between.
It's 30 dollars for the subcription. In my opinion, I had better things to spend my 30 dollars on. (Please don't tell me how to spend my money. I tried it, didn't enjoy it, felt ripped off, didn't renew.)
But I think people should judge for themselves. Look at the old premium articles and judge for yourself.

My account ran out a few days ago, and I haven't bothered renewing. Don't know if I will. I see almost no Vintage content there, and I couldn't care less about the draft and Type 2 articles. The live coverage was really cool, but they discontinued that. I really don't see any point in shelling out $30 a year for almost no Vintage articles worth reading, and almost none at all, for that matter.

ditto to a T. I've had it since last summer, but with no vintage stuff of note, its not worth it anymore.

My account ran out a few days ago, and I haven't bothered renewing. Same. I'm not going to renew for a while, if ever, just to see if I miss it at all. The quality (from a Vintage perspective) has been declining for quite a while now, and without coverage I'm just not sure if it'll ever be worth it.

At first I wanted Premium for Vintage, but I finally bought it when I thought Smmenen had something good to say about Legacy (I bought SCG Premium and all I got was this crappy Belcher article! The Flame Vault stuff was worth it though). However it's their current stuff that keeps me on. If I didn't play T2 regularly I probably wouldn't keep Premium on, but even without that I feel like SCG Premium makes me a better player, and it gives me a better understanding of T1 and T1.5.

I read a ton of limited articles even when I didn't play, because they seemed to emphasize more on actual skill. It was a nice change of pace.

Premium stuff got me interested in other formats. I bought it for the Type 1 stuff but I'm keeping it for the whole deal.
