I have to say mine is Baby Got Back covered by Throwdown, though Easy covered by Faith No More and Simply Beautiful covered by Fantomas are close.  So what's your favorite remake of a song?

I couldn't decide on a favorite, but I can probably put it down to top 5.

Hendrix's cover of Howling Wolf's "Killing Floor"(Honorable mention to his version of "Like a Rolling Stone")

SRV's "Little Wing"(On second thought I actually like Charge's version of SRV's little wing more)

G3 version of Frank Zappa's "My Guitar Wants to Kill Your Mama"

Frank Zappa's version of "Teddy Bear's Picnic"

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes' version of "Leaving on a Jet Plane"

That's indeed brilliant. Jolene by the Sisters of Mercy is my favorite.

The Refreshments - Jenny (867-5309)
Hoobastank - Do You Think I'm Sexy?
Dope - You Spin Me Round...
Offspring - Next to You
The Living End - Tainted Love

I really like cover songs.  To the point where I'd probably start a cover band, but I have no talent, so... yeah.

I will break into your house while you aren't home and disguise myself as a chair. Then I will leave before you get home, but there will be a place at your table where I was a chair and you will wonder why there isn't a chair there. Then later I will leave the chair disguise on your doorstep and you will realize what has happened and you will be afraid all the time. Helter Skelter mother fuckers!

Metallica covering Whiskey in the Jar by Thin Lizzy.
Hendrix covering All along the Watchtower by Dylan.
Orgy covering Blue monday by New order.
Cake covering I will survive.

I am not a huge fan of covers, but I do like them when they are significantly different than the original.

Fear Factory "Cars"
Just an awesome song.

Children of Bodom "The Trooper"
CoB is ridiculous. Covering Iron Maiden songs is tech.

Does Leonard Cohen adapting Lorca's poem "Little Vienese Waltz" to song ("Take This Waltz") count? If so I vote that. If not...

Nirvana playing Bowie's "Man Who Sold the World"
SRV playing Hendrix's "Little Wing"
KMFDM (or MDFMK, I'm not sure which) playing U2's "Sunday, Bloody Sunday"
Dreadful Shadows playing New Order's "True Faith"
Jeff Buckley playing Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah"
Johnny Cash playing Nick Cave's "The Mercy Seat"
Pearl Jam covering "Last Kiss" by...uh, J. Frank Wilson, maybe? not sure who wrote this
Sonic Youth, covering "Superstar" by The Carpenters
Veruca Salt covering My Sharona by The Knack
Devo covering NIN's "Head Like a Hole"
John Mayer covering Radiohead's "Kid A"

entire cover albums:
Laibach covering "Let It Be" by the Beatles
Luther Wright and the Wrongs covering "The Wall" by Pink Floyd
Iron Horse covering various Metallica songs on an album called "Fade to Bluegrass"

I hold a special hate in my heat for this song. Tons of people like it, but to me it was always like nails on a chalkboard, not actualy sure why.

I've always like the pickin' on series, where a group of bluegrass musicians cover older rock stuff. My favorite has been Pickin' On Zeppelin.

Other then that, random "punk" covers can be pretty decent, and sublime doing marley is always a treat.

Metallica covering Whiskey in the Jar by Thin Lizzy.

Actually Whiskey in the Jar is just an irish folk song that Thin Lizzy put on an album.

There are like 40 awesome songs from the list above...  but my favorite covers are the ones that are hilariously out of place.  Tori Amos and Emm Gryner are very good at these.

Off By One - Torn
Voltaire - Caught a Lite Sneeze
Emm Gryner - Pour Some Sugar on Me
Emm Gryner - Big Bang Baby
Tori Amos - Losing my Religion
Tori Amos - Smells Like Team Spirit

but my most favorite cover would have to be

Tori Amos - Enjoy the Silence

Enjoy the Silence is already a fucking incredible song, but the Tori Amos version is just so bizarre that I can't stop listening to it.

Honorable mention goes to

BrassMan - I Wish

Weezer's "Jamie", done by Dashboard Confessional on A TRIBUTE TO WEEZER.

I hate Dashboard normally, but this cover is amazing.

I like Metallica's Cover of Turn the Page by Thin Lizzy, and a hoarde of other covers posted on this thread.

All Along The Watchtower by Jimi Hendrix

All   of Dylans versions are better (except maybe his live versions- if you've seen him live in the past 8 years, you know what I mean). However, I think that the Hendrix version, with the sweet ending, was the best cover song I've ever heard.

Turn the Page was origanally done by Bob Seger, and I am not sure that Thin Lizzy ever covered it.

I don't know that it properly counts as a cover, but my vote is for this:
Quote from: some website
Daniel Johnston recorded "Speeding Motorcycle" on 1989's Yip/Jump Music. He is a splendid, crooked songwriter who you should read about. Yo La Tengo covered "Speeding Motorcycle" on 1990's Fakebook. They are a sweet noisy pop band who you should read about. Late in 1990, Yo La Tengo were playing on Jersey City's WFMU (as they do), and Daniel phoned in. They decided to play a song. The song would be "Speeding Motorcycle". Yo La Tengo stood in their half-circle at the studio, all hesitant glances and grins. Over in Texas, Daniel stood in his socks in the kitchen and boy, he yelled his heart out.
So it's kind of the original performer covering his own song with a different band.

Barring that, Throwdown's "Baby Got Back" is amazing.  And if you've never heard Richard Cheese's lounge covers of your favorite pop hits of the 90s and today, well, you should aim to fix that.

Graveworm's cover of 'Losing my Religion' by REM is great.

Children of Bodom has a ton of great covers, including 'Repent (Whore)' by Cryhavoc that wasn't mentioned.

Black Label Society's cover of 'No More Tears' is good as well.

One of the classics is Manfred Mann And His Earth Band's rendition of 'Blinded by the Light' by Springsteen.

Children also has one of the strangest covers in 'Oops I Did It Again' by Britney Spears.

Tony Bennet - Black Hole Sun
Richard Cheese - Rape Me

Guns 'n' F'n' Roses did some great covers as well, with Live and Let Die and Knockin' On Heaven's Door being particularly good efforts, in my opinion.

Elliot Smith Covering "Don't Fear the Reaper"
The Lemonheads Covering "Mrs. Robinson"
Sonic Youth Covering "Superstar"

The Beatles Covering "You've really got a hold on me"

Its almost unfair to list the Beatles' Covers of old Sixties Rock 'n' roll songs because they are almost all superior to the original.

Limp Bizkit - Behind Blue Eyes
Limp Bizkit - Sanitarium

The various DMB versions of All Along the Watchtowers are pretty good too.

You sir, however, do:
Hendrix covering All along the Watchtower by Dylan.

I like Bowling for Soup - ...Baby One More Time
Bowling for Soup - Little Red Riding Hood
Metallica - Turn the Page
Bruce Springsteen - Brown Eyed Girl
Apocalyptica - Anything by Metallica
