It has 2 triggered abilities. Its end-of-turn sacrifice and its conditional upkeep effect. What specifically are you asking about? Stifle stops both triggered abilities. Removing the other black creatures also stops its upkeep ability.

Yeah, it just came into my mind and I checked Gatherer for it. Ichorid has two triggered abilities, which means that Needle does nothing to it. It still stops Bazaar and Zombie Infestation (and Ashen Ghoul and Hermit Druid for those who run it). I have to agree that it's not the powerhouse I used to think it is. I'll have to find another piece of tech now.

Outlaw is x-1, as is steve, who is playing long.
Kowal is x-o-1, brassman is out, as is beuhler, who also played long. Outlaw beat beuhler and raped him of his packs.

Think Randy will have the tournament in a blurb on his column on mtg.com?  I really hope so.  Maybe Buehler failing to make top 8 both days will show that not all Type 1 players are as bad as most people say.  I would love to see Buehler talk about how he sees the state of Type 1, the tournament scene, and his personal experience.  I mean, in day 1 there were Drain, Rit, Shop, and Ichorid decks in the top 8--certainly nothing is dominant.

That would be really cool if he did that.  The thing is that just about everyone in the online magic community recognizes that Randy Buehler is one of the greatest players to ever play the game; i think that the more he talks about vintage, the more people will sit up and take notice of it in a serious way.  Plus, it's always nice to hear his take on things.

If those 5 names are right...

GWS takes 2 Top 8 slots each day!  Eric Becker makes it each day!  Fisher was deciding what to play on the car ride there--I think it was FlameVault--not gifts flamevault but combo flame vault.  Becker keeps his streak going...8/8 top 8s in power tournaments.

Wow, 3 or more people made top 8 each day.  I can't say i saw that one.  I guessed 2.

I hope so, but I fear that many people will ascribe the results to the percieved "randomness" of T1 rather than the skill of Randy's competition.  The consistent performance of some of the other participants should undermine that argument, but some people refuse to see facts they don't like.

Does anyone have a complete T8 yet?

Any word on what kind of Uba deck Evenpence was playing?  I came up with a new idea, and he and I were up till about 6 AM on friday morning tuning up the list, and I was curious if he brought it.

Colby Evenpence was playing a new version of uba stax he took out his tangle wire and put in jester caps. I was down there day one and he told me they were amazing. He also said he was thinking about taking Smoke Stax out of his deck I dont know if he did do that the second day or not cause he was telling me they havnt done any good first day I told him maybe tangle wires over smoke stax might be better. I was playing flamevault gifts day one i did okay with it with only two losses to two different fish decks that had gifts pretty well hated out. I ended up droping i think i was 2-2-1 I guess thats not bad for my first big vintage tourament. Did Colby Evenpence top 8 again the second day?!?!?! I hope he did hes such a awesome guy.

evenpence made top 8.

Kowal just lost in finals.

Outlaw was knocked out of contention by evenpence.

There was a slaver in top 8.

Brian Fisher won vs Kowal in finals

Fisher beat Becker(IT) in Semi's

No idea what fisher was playing, my guess either FlameVault control or IT

I dont know how rest of top8 went,

Nice job Fisher.  This time traveling across the country for an Eternal Format doesn't fuck you over Smile

I seriously doubt Fisher was playing IT since he hates playing rituals.  He was posting about FlameVault on the boards before he left.

Congrats to Becker for proving his deck is amazing while walking away with 2 more pieces of power.

Nice job to Steve and Evenpence for making 2 top 8s in 2 days.

Anyone know the Top 8 for Day 2?  Who made it and with what deck,  I'm wondering how does Day 2s winning decks compare with Day 1s.

This is directed to JDizzle: when you get home and have got your obligatory sleep, you'll better start typing some lists! But seriously, we all appreciate that VERY MUCH. Can't wait to hear about the new tech from the creators/players themselves!

Who can Top 8 tomarrow?

Rich Shay most likely will top 8 again since he can play CS
Brain Demars since he can play BS
Outlaw cause he top8s at all of these
Menendian could again but I see him making top 16 for this one
I wouldn't want to exclude the others but these 4 have the best chance at doing it 2 days in a row the others I can definitely see this Top8 in the Top16 for day 2 though/

buehler will top 8 day 2 since he will run a good deck and not a fun Ichorid deck  Very Happy   Tormod's Crypt > than Ichorid

FFY cannot top eight day two because he drank too much the night before and couldn't crawl out of bed in time to start the tournament.  Monster hang over, Damn you O'Charley's bar, and the Marriot Hotel Bar in between rounds!!!.  Apparently, Pete wasn't willing to wait until one for me to start the event...

Day one:  In other notes;  I shipped Samite Healer my list the night before the event and we played the same list of Burning Slaver card for card day one.  Respectively, we both finished 6-0-2 in the swiss seated first and second.  With Solem SImilacrum in the board.

I lost to Rich in the semis.  He had extremely strong cards, and played them perfectly.  There was actually very little I could do to interact either game.  I didn't get to watch Jeff's finals match against Rich because I was smoking with the  ICBM and GWS guys.  Thanks buds!

Congrats to Rich and Brian for taking it down with Slaver!!!

It was a great event and it was awesome to see so many familiar faces and great type one players in attendence!!

Also, mad props to Kevin for showing up!!!  C'mon bud, hook me up with legend of Zelda basics!!!

He also said he was thinking about taking Smoke Stax out of his deck I dont know if he did do that the second day or not cause he was telling me they havnt done any good first day I told him maybe tangle wires over smoke stax might be better.

This was my idea, I call it UbaCap, it takes out Null Rods for Jesters Caps.  I PM'ed Everpence about it thursday night, and he wasn't sure it would be good.  I explained the theory to him, and he liked it a bit.  We playtested a bit friday at like 4 AM, he watched my caps and whatnot, and then he was convinced.   We then talked for 2 hours or so on how to optimize the decklist.  On of the ideas I had but didn't end up trying was to take out smoky's, but again, didn't yet, as I felt the deck should be more of a "jester's cap lock" with a slow lock then a stax deck.  There is also the added ability of having 2 trikes MD and 2 trikes SB, though all 4 trikes can be MD in an aggro environment.

Colby's version as of 630 Friday Morning
UbaCap

47
2 Triskelion
1 Karn
1 Gorilla Shaman
3 Jester's Cap
3 resistor
3 uba

SB

3 Tormods
4 Undecided until the event

I didn't really see any.  There were a lot of Tendrils decks with Confidant but they were not playing with Drains and forces.  I know Endress had Bob's in his deck and he was pretty much just straightforward Tendrils.  If there were Drain Bob decks present they were most definately chilling at table 35 through fifty.

@ the evenpence lists

I have been toying around with defense grid in the SB and they seem really good, not just for the counters put to prevent that stupid stuff like EOT rebuild with a sphere out. Making a combo deck use 4 mana to rebuild on their own turn is pretty good. I am glad to see them used. I hope evenpence writes some good reports. He had a good non-standard build and I am curious how those choices paid off.

The Jester's Caps were very strong in his list.  If he had capped my Duplicant instead of my Mindslaver I wouldn't have been able to win game two.

I don't know how I feel about the Defense Grid.  It can be situationally amazing, but at the same time when he played that on the first turn I was kind of relieved it wasn't anything else.  I'm pretty sure that Tangle Wire would have been infinately worse for me than the Grid was.  Caps were the hots though.  I can see that really stealing a lot of games especially against Gifts or Tendrils.

I will say this:  Evenpence is a really cool dude.  I'm glad I got a chance to play against him.  (and I'm not just saying that because he was my best match up in top eight!)  Congrats on making top eight both days!

This looks like one of the best events ever. I wish I could've gone, but when you work 50 hours a week to pay rent, flying to Richmond isn't all that possible.

All I need is some more reports to be happy (Thanks FFY!).
