http://sales.starcitygames.com/deckdatabase/deckshow.php?&t%5BC1%5D=vin&start_date=2006-03-19&end_date=2006-03-19&event_type=P9

First and foremost, my apologies for taking so long to get this up there.  Taking 4 days off to go to Richmond was worth it, but obviously, not the best thing to do in an engineering curriculum.  I had some catching up to do after the trip (along with physical recovery), so it delayed me quite a bit.  However, I would like to thank everyone for being so understanding.  I didn't get one (serious) message regarding the decklists, and I didn't see more than one message on any set of forums asking where they are.  I haven't failed to get them up there in a timely fashion yet, nor will I, so its nice that people take my word that I'm getting it done as fast as I can.

I will try my hardest to get the second set up by Wednesday evening.

Oh, my personal favorite list is the one that has 2 Chrome Mox.  No, that's not a mistake.  That's what's written on the sheet. Razz

W00t..I got like 48th. Good enough for me: Being sick most the day and whatnot. And seeing the list for the "Pande-Oath" thing was definitley a highlight of my last few minutes. It should have won based on intuitiveness alone =(..

I really had no idea what he was playing when we were matched up. I was surprised when he scooped - I thought I was going to see some crazy combo.

Thanks JD!

Btw, SCG never includes Mana Crypt in their lists.

Also, I think Becker's list is missing the Merchant Scroll.

It's MWS that somehow loses the Mana Crypt.  In fact, if you click the "Export to MTGO Text format," you'll lose Mana Crypt from the output list as well.  I guess it has something to do with how promotional cards are processed in those programs, but I don't really get it.

yea i must say when eric miller oathed into no angels or spirit of the night i was quite shocked.  We had a good match though and thanks JD for posting the decklists.  It was fun playing you too BTW.  I think i saw a rebuild out of that whole matchup...

Edit: Ugh, that was The_Spooky_Kid, he must've forgotten to log out of my account last time I was at his house.  I had to skip Richmond.

I am glad these are up, and I know it takes a ton of work to put them up so it is greatly appreciated... However, I really wish you just listed Control Slaver as Control Slaver... Just because the deck runs a burning wish doesnt mean that it isnt Control Slaver... It just makes things harder to find and more uneeded work...
If it runs Burning Wish or not... Its still CS... A few cards are different etc... But its still the same ideology... Its CS... Brian Demars even admitted that.

Thanks Justin. I still think its pretty fast considering the number of decklists and how boring the job must be. Really appreciate it.

Did Brassman get his feet stuck in a time machine or something?

This is the first Richmond in a long time where I didn't ride down in his car. ;)

I think it is fair to say that a 14 hour car trip together had me and Brassman influencing each other's decks.

After Rochester, I received a request to name it that, and since the deck has more approaches to the standard CS game plan -- Crucible/Strip, Tendrils of Agony (the biggest differentiator), 3 Welders (not that common for CS when it debuted), etc. I granted the request and named it Burning Slaver.

You might wonder how I name the Gifts lists.  Here's how:
"Gifts" - 3-4 Gifts Ungiven, Tendrils of Agony somewhere to be found, Merchant Scroll, few copies of Pithing Needle and TfK
"Confidant Gifts" - obvious
"Gifts Control" - multiple copies of Pithing Needle (indicates more reliant use of TfK), no Tendrils kill (Vault)

It's not an exact science, but I think I have high enough standards to let people know the difference.

The only policy I strictly adhere to is that I will not ever put a team or personal name in the title of a deck.  For instance, I could very well label things "GWS Oath," "MeanDredge," etc.  The problem is that as people change one or two cards (maybe as many as 5), does the deck still remain "GWS Oath," and where do you draw the line of being "inspired by GWS Oath" and being "GWS Oath" itself.  In addition, I don't feel that team names belong on database names, since they are not revealing at all as to the actual contents of the deck (unless you already know what's supposed to be in there).  I also don't really listen to the names creators give unless that name is descriptive -- "Intuition Tendrils" for instance.  That's the name that Mr. Becker wrote down, and it is an extremely appropriate name for the deck in the database, as it characterizes exactly what it does.

I completely disagree with Gifts being labeled "control" because it runs pithing needles, but I don't really care as long as the deck names are descriptive of the decks, which I think they are. I think it's fine to do it in this context since it's really just for deck research, but in a more theoretical discussion of Vintage I would object.

(Incidentally, "Gifts Control" sounds to me like those decks that run either four colors, or wishes to get stuff out of the sideboard, or both, like Balance.)

I actually didn't create the "Gifts Control" name.  That was the name used for BrassMan's deck before I took over this job, and since it had been done that way, I was inclined to keep it that way.  In order to classify similar decks, I needed to make up some sort of justification, and that's the best I could come up with.  My guess is that the naming convention came from the fact that the TfK/Needle versions are a little more controlling in that they aren't quite as aggressive as the traditional Meandeck builds with 4 Merchant Scroll, which no one plays anymore, but I can't change the convention now.  I'd love to drop the "Control" from "Control Slaver" because there is no need to differentiate it from Workshop Slaver anymore, but it's been there so long that it has to be there.

I was pretty sure I finished in 15th, and not 25th.  When I came in the next day the standings after round 8 were still up and it had me in 15th.  Then I found out they gave draft sets to the top 16 so I asked Pete if i got one for 15th and they hooked me up.  If it was a mistake that I got 15th, I owe SCG a draft set.

If you're referring to day 1, I'm pretty sure I remember Kevin Cron being right above me in the standings. They didn't ask anyone to prove they were top16 though, so I wouldn't worry too much about it either way.
