I only read the forums to check feedback for specific articles. Beyond that, I never go to the SCG forums, but I think many TMD users do.

I'd be interested to hear about why TMD members go there. Is it for other formats like type 2/1.x?

I've checked out the T2 forums occasionally, and they're better than the Eternal stuff.
I check the Vintage stuff occasionally.
I read the Legacy stuff as frequently as I do here because I mod.
I also check feedback for every article I either like or strongly dislike.

If I specifically need to find some starting points for decklists or new ideas in non-Eternal formats, I occasionally try wading through the muck. Article feedback is the place I most often visit, but even then, it's only once or twice a month.

I go for another source of ideas and information.  I will answer newer players questions.

But mostly I go there for the GD forums

I go there when I see random things of interest on SCGs front page.  As a rule though I usually get a headache digging through the redundant postings and poor writing skills to recover even the slightest bit of valuable information.

I read SCG, but don't post. The daily discussion topics can be interesting but a lot of the other stuff is just pointless to read. I do post in and read the mtgslavation T1 forum. I find it a good place to test out ideas and get insight into decks I know little about.

Really just the article feedback, occasionally the daily questions, and whenever I need to look up info on the P9 tournies.

I really have tried to improove that forum and add to the intrest of Vintage on salvation..its still got a long way to go, but at least its another source of info..

I post on and check out some of the stuff on the SCG forums as well...sure the posting is bad sometimes (something im guilty of at times, and thats okay, heh) Sometimes there are interesting discussions there, and while I havnt been posting there for a bit, I do stop by and check out the Cerebral Assasin thread, just because its a big cerebral assasin thread, heh.

I go there when I feel like procrastination, after my normal playtesting partners arent online, and I'm super tired of randoms on MWS, and its too late/early/not enough time between classes to go to the gym, and I don't feel like reading/too lazy to paint.

Surprisingly, this has been quite often lately. GoGo seniorities!

As for where I go, since I'm just killing time and I can speed read even the longest of posts, I read just about everything in feedback and Vintage.

I read the SCG T1 Forums whenever I need a good laugh... So many funny quotes...

The last good one I read was some member of ICBM Saying that Intuition Tendrils was as fast as long.dec accept more consistent...

That made me laugh...

Talking about SCG... I thought the deal was they wouldnt post advertisements on the TMD... Its very ennoying...

"The Mana Drain is widely considered to be the premier Vintage resource in the world, and I am proud to be able to provide the site with the resources it needs to continue being such," said StarCityGames.com President, Pete Hoefling. "I believe this is a very good thing for fans of Magic: the Gathering's oldest format.

"While I do intend to add an advertising banner in order to help defray operation costs," continued Hoefling, "I want to assure the community that I have no plans to change any aspect of the TMD forums, or how they operate. Expect TMD’s existing rules, policies, guidelines and standards to remain intact."
Zherbus was the one who said that he would never put ads on TMD, but the SCG banner was okay'd by him as part of the deal--he was paying for TMD out of pocket, but there's no way to expect SCG to do the same; they're a business.

Also, there are probably over a hundred ways of not having to see the ad banner if you don't want to.

I go in there to see what's up from time to time, but I only read stuff that catches my eye.

Sometimes I go in there to sway public opinion.  It rarely ever works though.  Usually, Diceman catches me in the act.  Razz

I visit the Starcity forums every once in a while but they seem to be for the casual mages. Most of the threads are just not that viable in my opinion. I'm not saying that there terrible they just do not have the caliber of disscusion that the Mana Drain has to offer.
Thats my 2 cents.

I check on the Vintage stuff over there every so often to see if I'm missing anything, and usually I am.  But it's all Oath and Workshop Aggro nonsense over there, so I don't feel too bad about it.

I'm there for article feedback and I visit the Vintage forums when they are pointed out here. I only ever arrive there via links, though, either the feedback link under the SCG articles or here. That's why I have no idea what the forums are like in total; I only look at a very tiny snippet of it all.

I check the forums regularily, but I rarely post anything, much like here.  When I feel like I need to say something, I will post it, but most of the time I have found someone thinking the same thing who has already posted it. I just let them get flamed instead   I mostly read the article feedback, vintage discussions that dont appear here (like "what's the most pimp deck you have ever seen"), and MTG Issues as this is not the space to bring it up.

Sometimes i check the discussions that are on the front page, but almost never more..

SCG is good for decklists after tournaments and articles, but TMD has a far better forum.

Extremely rarely, though maybe more since I just started to pick up T2 again (Don't get alarmed guys, just a side thing for tourney-less weekends)

I visit and I post from time to time. Mostly I try to keep people on topic and from shredding each other.

The fact is that it is generally of lower quality than here. But, if you are willing to sift, you can find some interesting stuff.

I check them frequently.  There is often good discussion there - esp. since Kevin has done such good work with the topics.

Also, I have been putting up the legacy topics and am a mod in the legacy forum.

However, I think it would be smart if they just merged the SCG Vintage forum and the mana drain somehow.

I agree. They should just link over to here instead of having there own vintage forum.

Nah, it's good to keep them separate.  The SCG Forums don't have the same high standard of posting that TMD does, and that's a good thing for newer players.  I know that when I first starting playing Vintage, the SCG forums provided me a good place to learn a lot of basic things before coming over here.  People do need a place where they can post basic questions like "How does this deck actually work?" that would not be acceptable here.  TMD is the place for high level discussion, not learning the basics.  People are a lot less critical there, so new players don't have to worry about being ridiculed for asking 'dumb' questions.  Think of the SCG Forums as "TMD on Training Wheels."

As long as basic questions are asked in the Improvement Forum, why not? Aside from that, JDizzle is right, though, especially in view of the massive amount of additional Moderation that would be required to keep it to TMD's high standards.

Not reading SCG (or at least glancing from time to time) means that you miss out on things like this:
