First, cards update. I added 7 cards on friday [6-16-06] noteworthy: New Jester, old artIncinerator smokestackMario RubyDo you think you could give a step-by-step description of how you completed a card? Maybe just pick a specific card that you did, and describe the order/layers/colors/techniques/etc that you used? I would find that very helpful, and it may give other people motivation to make their own. Specifically, I really like the way the Bazaar of Baghdad (the one closest to the real card art) on the first power proxy page - but I can't tell what is paint, or sharpie, or ink.
Yes. Im writing a how to guide now. Ill post it w my next update.

Oh, man. I want Mindslavers like that one. And that Crucible...
Keep up the good work. Incidentally, does your process work on foils? I want foil Crucibles like that one.

If you ever figure out how to redo foils, I have 4 foil Crucibles and a foil Mindslaver for you to doodle on. You would be repaid for your time.

Non foil cards are just plain white cards with printed ink on them, etc. Foils are plain cards that have a plastic film on them. Basically, an image is printed on the plastic (reversed, of course) then the silver and glue are applied to foil them out and make them stick. Basically to alter something and retain it's foilyness, you'd have to remove the plastic film from the card, remove the glue, then the silver reflective stuff, then alter the image (backwards), then reapply the silver and glue, finally reattaching the card. Only God and Superman can do this. Nice pics btw. P.S. Remind me to bring you some high quality ink solvent (I work in ink manufacturing) to the next SCG Chicago so that you don't have to rip your card faces to shreds with an eraser any longer. eww.

Hey, I, like the above poster, have also been inspired by vroman's work. Here are some examples: They look a lot better in person, because there's some distance between you and the card and the method of texturing can be seen. Also, these are pretty big images so the flaws are really noticeable. If anyone has any ideas for a sapphire, I'd really appreciate it if they could let me know, as the original art does not work well in this style (black background, textless, etc). Any comments/criticisms are appreciated. Thanks!

I don't check the basic user forums that often and completely forgot about it. BTW, nice work on the 'Blast and Capashen (Gerrard would be a very good card for UW Fish- however it would put a bit of strain on the manabase- good idea though!). Here are some Long cards I made- following the same theme as the Lotus/Pearl: <EDIT> Heh... Finally finding a use for those Mirrodin Plains I hate so much, lol,</EDIT> I also have a really sick new Black Lotus and Mox Sapphire I made- this time I just tried to make it look as close to the real thing as possible with the random markers/highlighters I had. Vroman, props to you for the highlighter idea- I've never tried them before but they work very well! I'll post the Lotus and Sapphire today or tomorrow. EDIT: Here they are:

I'd have done the proxies with Beta lands but unfortunately I only have a few, and I like to use them in decks. Thanks for the suggestion though, I have tons of UL lands I could use for Lotus/Mox proxies so it would look almost exactly like beta if I do it well enough. I find that the best way to ink cards is to put tape on the inside edges of the borders, then make a single very neat, careful stroke. This way the border is smooth, and looks a lot like it would on an actual card (if you do it normally -as you would color with a pencil crayon or shade with a pencil- you can see the edges of the sharpie lines, and this makes it obvious that it was inked). Of course this doesn't work well if you have older/unused sharpies (you need the thicker ones, so one stroke can cover the width of the border).
