Funny, on another site I'm having a discussion about whether or not T&N is viable in extended now that Raffinity is dying, and somebody starts a thread about playing it in Vintage here. You'll never pull it of... why not? Because you can't race any decks. In Extended the deck's main strength is that it is fast enough to race aggro and it can compete with other combo decks because it has certain control elements that win you the game.

In Vintage it will be impossible for you to race ANY deck except maybe for Fish, but like Smmenenenenenen pointed out; you'll never resolve the Tooth against a control deck.

In all seriousness though this might work in type 1.5 where aggro is dominant, just need to combo off before they kill you.

(Extended) Raffinity takes this deck apart. Why then would Legacy decks fail at this?

tooth and nail only became viable during the mirrodin-kamigawa-8th type2 block was because affinity got banned. the mana  bases at that time wer very stable albeit slow because T&N used basic forests. all the decks were that slow at the time and T&N became the most consistent win condition  since you have inevitability. type1 decks have a very fragile mana base to say the least and you will encounter hate a lot.

your going to rely on drain mana to cast a T&N with entwine? good luck ever getting more than 2 mana from drain. people expect mana drain a lot and more often than not they're not going to walk into it.

You could also just play the 'turbo' version. With Vine Trellis and Urzatron so you could go of as early as turn three.

Steve is only being so hard on the guy because he wants to keep the secret MD T&N list to himself, and doesn't want others realizing its power.

Really tho, why not just spend 6 mana on bargain (or two on Oath, or 4 on gifts, etc.) to win the game, instead of GG7 ?

I mean, tooth and nail costs a lot, but so does mindslaver/activation in the same turn.  I've done that a lot.  I've also hardcast collosus on the second turn , after casting a first turn pentavus.  Those plays don't even win the game on the spot.  Tooth does.  Anyone who can't see that tooth is undercosted for what it does is clearly a total noob.  End of story.

Only if dark rituals added GGG to your mana pool man.  Sorry but I had a similar idea.  That Obliterate/march of the machines deck in standard that crushed affinity?  When I made it in vintage without moxen, it sucked so bad I could only beat a poorly built suicide black deck thanks to my counters.  It's just taking a deck from the most underpowered format to the MOST powered format doesn't work (often).  If you look at ravffinity it ruled for a year and change, but when people brought it to vintage no cigar.

Somebody tell Chapin how counterbalance works?

"Of all the major Vintage archetypes that exist and have existed for a significant period of time, Oath of Druids is basically the only won that has never won Vintage Championships and never will (the other being Dredge, which will never win either)." - Some guy who does not know vintage....
