Hi, I'm Matt and I've been playing magic since mid 2010, and I started the eternal formats a year later. I recently did my first vintage tournament over the weekend, where I hit top 8. I've been lurking some of the boards here for a while and I finally decided to register.

Hello all, just actually joining the site after reading on here for the last 6-7 years. I started with a few Tempest and Mirage cards, left the game awhile after Stronghold, returned with Kamigawa block, played in my first FNM limited tournament with the first Ravnica block, and have become completely entrenched since Lorwyn. I am currently attempting to piece together my first real Vintage and Legacy decks. Thanks to everyone who has taught me so much on here over the years, already, without even knowing it! , Taiga Go!

Hello, my name is Holly. I've been playing Magic a bit off and on for a few years, but my boyfriend has been trying to get me to play Vintage a lot lately. He suggested I make an account on here, so here I am!

Hi all.
I'm James. I started magic in 1994, quit a couple times, but now I'm back. Somewhere in there I went to college and got a job, but the love for mtg remains.
Calvin Hodges hooked me up with power a few months ago, so now I'm looking at competitive vintage events. TMD is great for organizing events, and living in Pennsylvania I have access to lots of events. Hopefully you'll see me top 8'ing soon!

Hi all,
My name is Michael. I started playing MTG back in 1994 when I was in high school. I stopped playing in around 2006 and has just started up again around a month ago.
I have been reading the primers, tournament reports and forum threads to re-familiarise myself with the rules and metagame changes since I last played and found TMD to be a valuable resource. Hopefully, I will get a vintage/legacy deck together soon and start being part of the MTG playing community again.

Hello, I used to play vintage but didn't have any power around 2000-2002 but stopped playing after the shop where I played vintage closed and my friends became fans of the new Highlander format that didn't interest me.
Fast forward to end of 2012, I moved to Montreal, had disposable income, had free time and started to look vintage topics online. I decided to start playing again and found some people playing casually in bars and other places. Last time we met we were 7 for a casual night so it might be possible to run tournaments in the future. There's a friend of mine owning a shop that plan on doing 9 proxy tournaments this summer and I hope it's going to work.

Hi all, I'm Josh and I've been playing Magic on and off since 1995. Vintage has always appealed to me and in December 2012 started picking up all the cards I could never afford back in middle school. I've been running an Espresso Stax deck and have been lucky enough to meet some of the amazing players in Boston, notably at Pandemonium and Scholar's. Based on the reception and welcome I've gotten from the other players there, I'm really looking forward to becoming a more involved member on TMD and the Vintage community in general.

Hi everyone, I'm Jay from France. I'm a 'casual' player. I'm using quotes because even though some games I play are about the laughs I'll have with players and/or silly/inefficient plays, I still like to figure out how to play best, even in a casual environment. I exclusively play constructed. Being a control freak, that's the kind of decks I like most. Firing off a combo or aggressively beating someone to death do not give me chills. I was always against the idea of not being able to play cards that I spent a lot of resources and money to find. Hence I allow myself to play usually-banned powerful cards (timetwister, tolarian academy, ...) in sub-bar non-combo decks (most of them EDH --hate the name commander--) that struggles to win unless I play really well. It seems like it works for the people I play with as well as for myself . They know I can win with powerful cards combined with good plays, but that does not happen easily enough for them to not see my point: 'Hey I spent a freaking lot on that/looked for that during years, so I'm gonna play them regardless of what the banlist says. I'll just make sure my win ratio does not go through the roof because of that.' Because of my want/need to play old cards, I kind of fall into the vintage-player category. Emphasis again on casual though. Joke going around is that I actually look at various banlists before deckbuilding so I can actually put all these *in* before even thinking of what I want my deck to perform . It is my understanding that vintage is usually referred to as a critical decision-making format. Every decision has a huge impact. Almost every play can make you win/lose. With the idea that you need to perform a series of correct decisions/plays in order to win. If that is not exactly accurate, I still want the deck I pilot to feel that way. Well that's about it. Now I'm about to start a new thread, hopefully you experienced guys can help me out/give me some pointers. Yours, --Jay

Hi all, I'm Anders from Denmark.
Played magic from 96-04, where I quit (and sold my collection, pretty bummed about it now :/)
Picked up magic back in '10 again, with Caw-Blade in standard etc, but I really disliked how magic is played today, in these formats, as I was mainly a combo-player earlier.
I got into vintage, about a year ago, and am trying to find money to purchase the cards again. However, being a student and all, it's hard to find this cash, so it's a slow process.
Really liking the site here, however, and reading about the format really just confirmed that this is where I belong (together with legacy).

Hi first post on here. I wanted to post somewhere else but apparently you are not allowed I am new to vintage and am only getting the chance to play now as a store is running a 75 proxy tournament. I am pretty excited about this. The event is this weekend and I am pretty sure I want to play Grixis, just trying to finalise the build. It will probably be strix/welder as I like what they do. I do have some temptation to play Bomberman as I have seen it putting up a lot of good results except it is nearly always the same person. Is Bomberman that good a deck or is it down to the player? I played some games with it and it feels kind of clunky. What is the advantage to playing this deck over Grixis?

Hey everyone, I'm Tim and I've been playing magic casually for about 10 years, and then competitively for 2 years. I started with standard, and after a while I started taking interest in older formats. About a year ago i started to build legacy stoneblade, of which i completed a few months ago, just around the time I also tested to become a level 1 judge.
Fast forward to now, and I have acquired a set of power, as well as a job! (graduating in 3 weeks) I love legacy and vintage alike, and can't wait to play legacy in larger events, and play vintage with more than just the 2 other vintage players I know.
It's great to be a part of this forum, and hopefully I can contribute a lot to this community.

Hello to The Mana Drain community. I became aware of magic as a snot-noised kid in elementary school, during holiday break in 1994. I started collecting Magic before I learned how to play the game, but it was not long before there was a group of us playing at recess and lunch. I have continued to play casually, and also play limited from time to time.
Moving the clock to a few months ago, I started a new job and discovered four of my co-workers played during lunch. They are more interested in standard, but it was a renewal of my interest in the game. In looking for ways to be knowledgeable and helpful for our play group I stumbled upon the MTGcast.com network. My recent discovery of this network lead me to both Serious Vintage, and So Many Insane Plays. Natural progression lead me to dust off my old cardboard and make my way here.
I look forward to what I will be able to learn from the community, and hopefully be able to contribute to conversations as well.

Hello TMD community and greetings from Finland! I have been lurking in the forums every now and then and finally decided to register. I might be the odd person here by saying that I haven't actually ever played Vintage. Well that is because I only play Magic in MtG:O, where Vintage doesn't exist (yet). I used to own some of the powerful non P9 cards (Library, Mana Drain, Jace TMS, FoW etc) in paper when I had a cube but nowadays I have sold 95% of my cards and moved to Online Magic. I play a lot of pauper, which is an eternal format also, and work closely with Pauper to the People Podcast as a part of the staff, which has led me to also listen to other podcasts where I picked up So Many Insane Plays and Serious Vintage podcasts. Now I am addicted to those and just want to consume as much information about the format as possible. Hoping that Vintage really comes to MtG:O some day and that I can afford to buy myself in. Looks like this is a nice community

Hi my name is Harold, my username is Jaceplayer 77 i started to collect in ice age and stopped at mirrodin. only played with friends and brothers until shadowmoor came out and been playing at local store and small events 2009 and on i have went to gp and ptqs. I play Legacy, modern, Standard and EDH. I have played a painter deck in vintage once and i built dark times awhile ago. I liked that deck cause at gp colombus which was legacy i used a ub hexmage/depths deck that also played stifle/nought . I like video games, bowling , fanatasy football and fishing when not playing or preparing for a magic tournment. Email: harold.page@gmail.comI join this site in hope to learn about vintage and see if it is another format that i might like. Also to see if there is any decks that i may want to try besides dark times. As im not sure how that deck does agianst the rest of the feild anymore. thanks and glad to be part of the Mana Drain Community.

Hello, my name is Robert, and I am not an alcoholic.
I first started playing magic many years ago - when The Dark was released in Australia. I played for several years, then packed away my cards for a good long time. Nearly fifteen years later, after the release of Worldwake, I started playing once more.
The vintage scene in Sydney is pretty quiet, with maybe 10 sets of power floating around. In the last 6 months, the number of players has started to increase again with a number of vintage events being organised (both sanctioned and unsanctioned). Typically, when there is vintage in Sydney, I will be involved. I am currently helping to run a 75 card proxy vintage league (with a Mox Emerald as the prize), and have just helped put together another event in early June with a Time Vault up for grabs.
When it comes to playing, I'm a little spoilt for choice, I own most of what I want to own (i.e. nothing much in white, or dredge related, but pretty much everything else). I have two sets of power: a completed unlimited set, and a nearly complete alpha set. Normally I play something blue, although recently I have been playing a lot of MUD.

Hello!
I live in Boston and just picked up playing magic again after about a 10 year layoff. I played when I was a kid until my middle teens, starting around 4th edition and ending around the urza block.
Vintage was an easy choice. Why not play with all the cards? I also play or at least try to play modern and legacy. It's been hard to find games because its out of season people have told me.
A friend from the local playgroup recommend I join, and from what I can see it was the right choice! Looking forward to digging through the threads!
