Hey, whats up. My name is Gabe, I'm from Lancaster Pennsylvania. I started playing magic almost 3 years ago, and then too a year long hiatus about 14 months ago. Since then, i've dived pretty heavily into Legacy, skipping modern and standard completely. Just recently i've gotten into vintage, i'm a virgin to the format, but it's new and exciting. I look forward to learning as much as i can about the format and the meta-game.
I was really hesitant to get into Vintage for the past several months just because it all seemed out of reach. But with some convincing, and spectating a small vintage tournament, i realized that it's an attainable format, and it looks hella fun.

Hi, my name is Fen. I've been playing since Revised edition, mostly casual and limited. Until recently I strongly resisted the idea of playing Type I/Vintage, but playing in a local tournament this past March was one of the best gaming experiences I've had. So I'm making the commitment to power up.

Hey guys! My name is Dan and I'm just starting out in Vintage.
I'm one of the PSU guys so I'll probably show up when most of the rest of them do, as well as hopefully going to more and more events myself. Yesterday I was at the Lancaster event and although family matters meant I showed up late and couldnt participate in the main event, I was able to play in the side event which was a lot of fun.
I definitely plan on attending a lot more events in the future and hopefully continuing to have a good time!

Hello everyone,
My Name is Dave Nunez, I'm from Rhode Island and started playing magic around 2002 (seventh edition). For me, this was around fifth grade, and what I considered a good deck at the time was my friends g/w Mirari's Wake deck. I didn't really play that much until high school, where we played large multiplayer games. I made a white Clerics and Test of Endurance deck in the beginning, and overtime developed more. I went to my first couple FNMs during Lorwyn block. However after high school I was on a brief hiatus from Magic as a pre-pharmacy student at URI. I started back up once again with Innistrad, creating a R/G werewolves deck that I would ultimately take to a 46th place finish at my first SCG open. The human/wolf token, and Lingering Souls as an FNM promo were driving factors to get me to move up from just playing at the URI gaming club. I frequent the Mana Core in Providence, and The Incredible Pulp in Narragansett, depending upon exactly where I am in the state. But lets move on to the fun stuff aka Vintage. I stumbled upon the concept of proxied vintage at Scholars, and was considering making a deck. If dark times was better, that might have been what I play. I really like Marc Lanigra's Grixis deck, but had to recognize that I can't afford FoW's, drains, or Jace's right now. For a while I put the concept on the back burner. However, in a whirlwind of events, I lost a lot of my collection, and decided it was time to reinvent myself as a player. I decided that Griselbrand is the strongest effect that has been printed in Magic in a long time, so that would be where I would start. I also stumbled upon the Bazaar of Moxen, and noticed that it would take place right around my 22nd birthday. The real nail in the coffin is when Brian Demars posted Stephen Menendian's Burning Tendrils Deck. I had played storm in modern, and the deck plays all the busted restricted cards, as well as Griselbrand oath. I also found the event at Pandemonium that took place sunday 5/26. A friend of mine does have the Forces, and the Dark Confidants, as well as some original duals, so I convinced him to come with me and be a testing partner. Ultimately, myself, and the people I went with didn't have great records, but we all had a great time, so hopefully you will be seeing more of me at vintage events in the future!

Hi,
My name is Mike. I've been playing on and off since '94 (started literally days before Legends was released in stores; I didn't know enough to get any. Bleh.), back when Type 1 was known as 'Magic'. I was also a lurker and occasional poster back in the BD Type 1 forum days, and originally signed up to TMD when it was first announced there. I played in a few of the tourneys they held in Syracuse, NY, back in 2002-2003 era (Tales Twice Told? I forget the store name. It's since changed.)
After getting out during Darksteel, I got pulled back in last year, mostly due to the convenience of MTGO. With the announcement of P9 being released there at some point this year, I figured it was time to start playing some more of the One True Format.
I've moved out to San Francisco since I was last active in tournaments, but I never got rid of my T1 staples, so I'm in good shape going forward. My time is limited due to work so I'm not able to travel to tourneys too often. I'm far more likely to be found on MTGO (same username), but I do plan to be at Eudomonia's July 28 Vintage so perhaps I'll see some of you there.

Hey all, my name is Jesse.
I started playing MtG with my Brother back in middle school when revised packs were available at the local grocery store.
At that time, Power 9 cards were out of our budget, and as we got older, then continued to be so.
However, I still have the desire to cast some Power, so I have been researching Vintage decks, hence my stumbling upon TMD.
Cheers - JF

Hi Fellow Users, Welcome to me! My name is Richard and I'm really excited to finally be a member on here! I've been playing vintage for about 2 years now, competitively for 20 months. I am from the Southeastern Wisconsin area and I try and play regularly at Xtreme Games in Lindenhurst. I've been lurking on these forums for information and deck innovations for quite some time now and finally decided to pull the trigger and expose my identity! I'm a fun-loving guy who loves the game and I hope to make formal introductions with many of you and begin to put faces to the screennames I've been creeping on for so long. Thanks for having me! Hello to everyone.
I'm Jørgen from Oslo, Norway. I'm 33, work as an Executive Creative Director in an Advertising Agency, and I love Magic the Gathering. My Magic story goes like this:
I first started playing Magic around Ice Age. My friend introduced me to the game, and after a while we I loved it. Serra Angel, Shivan Dragon, Kjeldoran Outpost, White Knight and Nightmare where cards we all wanted more of. I remember traveling to a nearby city to buy cards, but thinking that 15$ for a dual land was too much. White was my favorite color, and Feldon's Cane and Ivory Tower was always present in my decks. We traded, laughed and in general had no clue what so ever about what was good, bad or valuable. I don't think I made any horrible trades, but I'm pretty sure I got screwed over pretty bad more than one time doing trades with "near by city sharks".
Fast forward a bit: I started studying, played less with my original friends but started playing more competitively during Odyssey. I piloted a UG Madness deck to 5-0 in Norwegian nationals, losing in the final round because I couldn't find a green source to get rid of a Astral Slide. The draft went horrible, and after another couples of months I sold my collection. I can't remember the exact contents of the collection, but it wasn't that impressive to be honest.
Fast forward to November 2010: For some strange reason I started watching Star City Games Legacy stream. Survival of the Fittest was crushing and I really loved that Wild Mongrel and Basking Rootwalla was part of the deck. I started researching if there were a Legacy community in Oslo, and found a couple of guys playing regularly. After even more research I finally decided to get back into Magic, and ordered a lot of cards online. Having a good income I decided to get everything at once, and after a couple of months I owned the entire Legacy card pool. I started playing in local tournaments, getting to know really friendly and smart people, and consuming enormous amounts of content online. Articles, videos and podcasts, I probably spent like 3-4 hours a day reading and getting back into the game (I still do that today as I find it extremely appealing and a huge part of my love for the game and the community). After a while some of my new Magic friends suggested that we attend Bazaar of Moxen and I was really exited. We travelled to France in 2012 and the experience was awesome. For 4 days it was like the outside world didn't exist, which for me was a great feeling. My job is all consuming and I work all the time. But being totally disconnected from everything that was normal and job related was like heaven. We went back to Bazaar this year, and I started thinking about playing Vintage. I couldn't find the cards I wanted, so I stuck to Legacy. Wandering around the venue though, seeing people play Vintage... it was a combination of frustation that it wasn't me and "oh, that Black Lotus looks insane!" & "did he just win that game?!". I returned to Norway, but I was hooked.
Three days later I had found a set of Alpha P9 online (Norwegian Ebay site) and I had contacted the buyer. A week later I was the owner of Power. It felt: GREAT! I'm currently in the process of buying Vintage staples and I guess this is my story. At least so far. I'm really looking forward to read through this forum, ask questions, discuss and learn more about the format.
I guess this is me in Magic terms:
1. I love blue. 2. I really enjoy that losing to brokeness in Vintage is ok, and I really feel like people play the format to have fun. 3. I love cards from the original sets. I don't like foils or alterations. 4. My next project is getting Alpha or Beta blue duals, trading in my German FFB ones. 5. Learning about the game is almost as much fun as playing it.
Thanks for reading.
Jørgen

Hello all SoCal native here, started playing around 1994-1995 just toward the end of Revised. I bought a few booster packs of Revised back in the day for $7 each hoping to get duals (they were selling for $10-15 at the time). I opened them, got junk and stopped buying them, but that didn't stop me from loving the game. I bought a 2-player 4th Edition Starter set and started playing with my brother. My first deck was your usual Serra Angel, Majamoti Djinn, Wrath of God, Royal Assassin, Craw Wurm, Lightning Bolt, five color deck ! Super awesome I realized my first 'bad trade' when I let go of my Royal Assassin for an Akron Legionnaire but oh well you live and learn! Ice Age, Mirage, Alliances and Visions rolled around and I started losing interest, dropping out around Tempest. I missed Stronghold and Exodus and came back in around Urza's Saga. I played through Mercadian Masques, when I started going to Pro Tours and Pre-Releases and that's when I got heavily into playing the game. I used to go to the Wizards of the Coast store in Westminster to play weekly tournaments before it became Friday Night Magic. I played through Apocalypse and stopped again around Odyssey. This was the longest break I had taken from MtG and I didn't start playing again until Time Spiral, when I saw my brother playing with a whole bunch of old cards and asked him what was up with them. The Time Spiral and Future Sight sets really got me back into the game and I started going to FNM with my brother. I played through Eventide and between the micro-blocks and my local tourney shop closing I stopped playing FNM and pretty much just dropped back to booster drafting with friends. I've been out of the game for nearly five years now and I have a ton of MtG memorabilia and collectibles. I have a ton of pimp cards (foils, japanese/foreign foils, signed cards, misprints, altered arts, playtest cards), and I even own the original art for Urza's Avenger and the original sketch for Pauper's Cage. Looking forward to sharing all my stuff with everyone here!

Hey, I'm Vlad and I've been playing Magic for a while but collecting for much longer. I remember back in first grade when I was still new to America and my English wasn't great Magic was a great way for me to connect to other kids, it was pre- Ice Age back then and the art was cool. My first big tournament that wasn't an FNM or pre-release was MA States when Time Spiral had just come out. I got into Vintage after acquiring some power a long time ago, and my first Vintage tournament was one that ELD hosted. I left Magic shortly after Lorwyn and shortly after that sold my collection including what power I owned, but now I'm back and trying to regain it. I hope to start playing in more events around MA, and I'm super excited about Vintage Champs being in Philly. I'm happy to be part of such a great community as TMD and I hope to build a Vintage community in my local town of Lowell, because even if people are resistant to the format out here the interest is growing .

Hello, my name is Dair. I live in Central Indiana, near Indianapolis, the home of Gen Con.
I started playing Magic with birthday money the week Legends came out. I was lucky enough to buy a handful of packs with some Revised thrown in. I played semi-competitively (played local tournaments, and won a couple 20-30 person events) up through Tempest block. Lack of funds in college caused me to quit playing regularly and I even had to sell my incomplete Power set to cover car insurance. Flash forward to Mirrodin and I jumped back in for a block. I mostly played constructed events and quit to play Vs. until it died (I couldn't resist the easy money in Vs., as qualifying for the Pro Circuit and cashing in events was not too difficult). Flash forward to last year at Gen Con and I am back into Magic. I splurged on a Mox Ruby at a good price and then met a NY Vintage player in a Sunday draft. He said that Vintage was the cheapest format, because of the lack of rotation and blew my mind. I hadn't thought about it, but he had a point. I decided that Vintage (and some Legacy) would be my format of choice.
I recently starting working for a comic book store and we are moving to a larger location in the coming months. We will have gaming space and I hope to start a Vintage scene in Indianapolis by holding regular events.
I found out about TMD through the site Eternal Central, where I discovered So Many Insane Plays podcast. Here I am, and I hope to be a part of the community for years to come.

Hello TMD Community!
My name is James and I have been playing magic for most of my 20 years in existence. I grew up with the game, making my first deck at age 6 and moving up from there. Fantasy game play has always been a big part of the family ever since my father went to Walla Walla college with a certain someone and became addicted (my name on here - Talonfar - was my first DnD character).
With this background, magic for me has always been about the sheer pleasure of game play and the many opportunities to meet people from all walks of life. I was raised in magic with cards from alpha and every edition since, so the Vintage format has always been like home. I always enjoy the challenge of making a deck that draws on decades of cards (though making decks that focus on one mechanic the new editions bring to the table is fun too) and hope to get to the point where I can make a deck that could be played competitively.
As of right now, I am a college student working full-time to get in-state tuition far away from home at FGCU. I am a major in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Philosophy. I play piano, violin and, in my free time, teach every friend I make magic!
I found out about this site through the wizards community and thought it would be a good place to join in order to meet new people and enhance my deck-building skills!

Hi everyone,
My name is Matt Murray. I started playing Magic back when Mercadian Masques came out and started to play competitively back in Odyssey block (anyone else miss being able to build a tier 1 standard deck where the only 4 rares were yavimaya coasts?). I recently got back into the game when Innistrad came out and started playing standard with a U/W control deck that won with 2 Karns, 2 Gideon, and 2 Blue Sun's Zennith. Justin Kohler eventually convinced me to try out his bomberman list and I began running it in tournaments a few months ago with decent finishes.
I also have an odd fascination with Battle of Wits, mainly for the insane stories (Druidic Satcheling into a Temporal Mastery to survive the turn at 1 life, untapping with 7 mana and a Battle in hand. Oh, restarting the game with Karn and putting a Battle into play was also pretty sweet).

Hi folks. I'm Ryan - I've been playing Magic since 1995. Though I do enjoy pre-releases/releases and the occasional sealed tourney, most of my playing experience is kitchen table Magic and draft. House rules amongst my friends are that decks should follow either the Type I or Type 1.5 B/R list (dating myself by not saying Vintage and Legacy, right?) So, for the most part, I ignore Standard and Modern. More recently, I've really gotten into EDH - it's probably my favorite format. Besides playing, I've recently gotten into collecting original art. To that end, RitNecroWin (via Prospero) invited me to join TMD so I could participate in the Art discussion threads. I've discovered that collecting the original art is much more satisfying than just collecting the cards. If you haven't tried it, you should. But be careful - if you think collecting the cards can be addicting... wow... the art is 10x worse. Looking forward to talking about some art with all of you!

Hi
My name is Kris, and like many people, I started playing Magic during Revised but quit a few years later when I hit my late teens and found many other things that to fill my time. I jumped back in during the Alara block, but then started a family and have since rejoined yet again at the tail end of RTR.
Eternal formats have always interested me more than Standard, and having watched some Vintage videos like the BoM, I'm completely hooked. I doubt there is a Vintage scene here in Winnipeg, so right now I'm hoping for P9 and a true Vintage format on MTGO.

Hey there my name is Eddie,
I first started playing magic during the Kamigawa block where I just played casually with my friends. From the start I liked the idea of blue being able to stop and "control" whatever your opponent was playing with spells like counterspell and mana leak.
I played casually until Morningtide was released when I decided I wanted to play with real/competitive decks. I knew that with standard (and then also extended) that in order to have a competitive deck I would need to have to buy a new deck more often than I would have liked. I also found that I had terrible luck with boosters and in order to get the cards I wanted [relatively] cheaper, that I should just be singles. Thus I got into the legacy scene by building what was then known as Dreadstill.
Since then I always played some sort of blue control from Dreadstill, to Canadian Threshold, to Counter-Top to Landstill.
After taking a year or so break I moved to Denver and decided to start picking up the true eternal format: Vintage. Since then I have been playing vintage at Black Gold Magic in Littleton and enjoy it alot; again playing some sort of blue control.
I also enjoy baseball and playing guitar.

hello all. my name is Andre, which explains the user name. I started playing around revised/end of legends. I have been lurking on here for years but just made an account after Nick ( Prospero) and I talked at an event yesterday. I'm an intentional tax attorney by trade but a pro magic player in my dreams. I can at least say I beat Ben Stark in a tournament. Granted it was right when tempest came out and he was probably 10 years old, and it was still a close match, but I've pretty much lost every game since. hopefully, this account, along with playing every Sunday at comic book depot in long island, will get me in shape. I had a great time with some of you guys yesterday and look forward to doing it again soon.

Hello, my name is Tom and I am from the Akron/Canton part of Ohio. I have been playing MTG off and on for a number of years, starting with Tempest. I have always loved the game but for one reason or another have gotten in and out of it. I played competitive type 2 for a number of years during the Urza block through Mirrodin but eventually grew weary of set rotations. Type 1 was always my favorite format and I played Keeper for a couple years before leaving the game the last time but thankfully holding onto the bulk of my collection. I am excited to get back into the format and am looking for people and places to play near my area.

sounds great! I was planning to come to the saturday tournaments in both columbus and sandusky. If there are any stores or groups that meet up to play near cleveland I would be more than willing to drive that way as well. I wanted to get in on the thursday nights in columbus but it is too far of a drive to go down after work thursday night and be able to get to work in the morning on friday, assuming the tournament runs until at least midnight since it doesnt start until 7:30 pm. I am very excited to get back into mtg and play some vintage. There are a couple of stores right down the road from me that play magic nearly every day if not every day but no one plays vintage unfortunately and that is the only format that appeals to me. I would love to meet some vintage players to get some games in on a regular basis. Currently I have proxied about 7-8 decks that have done well from the current u.s. meta to test my deck against. I am currently piloting a Stax varient.

Hi my name is Dan I live in the DC area. I played tournament Legacy a few years ago and am thinking about getting into Vintage now.
Usually when I want to test Legacy I would just print out the top 8 from the lat GP or other large tournament. I can't seem to find any recent large tournaments for vintage though. I found the lists from the last vintage champs but those are almost a year old now. Would anyone be willing to share the decklists for their testing gauntlet or shoot me a link to some more recent large tournament results?

Welcome to TMD Dan. My first piece of advice would be to find a sweet avatar to go along with that cool disco online handle of yours. Second, I'd pop over to http://morphling.de/ and check out recent tournament results. You'll find deck lists from all over the globe.
