Hey, long time Legacy player here looking to finally have a deck or two that is Vintage competitive. I started playing when Onslaught was released, but quit when the day after the Scourge Prerelease that I went to. I started picking up the game again after my brother got me back into it around Avacyn Restored. I suppose this wouldn't leave a LONG amount of time to play legacy, but enough to get into it pretty competitively (: I've been working with pandaman over on MTGTheSource in regards to transitioning over to vintage and he directed me over here (just in time for the forums to become an art/yankee forum instead! ). Currently have an unpowered URx Landstill deck built and going from there. Lots of great information on here (:

Hello all,
My name's Nate. I'm in the Boston area, which is fortunate since the Northeast has, from what I hear, a pretty strong Vintage scene.
I'm one of the hordes of folks who played in the '90s, didn't understand the value of the cards he was playing with, left for college ('99-'03), and only picked the game back up with Innistrad. I've done well with Standard and like many others have slowly collected staples for other formats. My Modern staples collection is almost complete, but I'm missing playsets of 2 cards that seem like staples in Vintage, Legacy, and Modern alike - Tarmogoyf and Vendillion Clique.
I don't own any power or JtMS, and only have 1 Underground Sea, 1 Badlands, 1 Taiga, 1 Volcanic Island, 2 Bayou, 2 Scubland, and one each of Polluted Delta, Bloodstained Mire, and Wooded Foothills. Though, as hinted at above, I have full playsets of the ZEN fetches.
So my collection is small but growing. The good thing is that my local shop holds Vintage tournaments on Tuesdays with unlimited proxies. I haven't attended that event yet, but plan to start shortly.
I'd like to try out a lot of archetypes to see what I like. From there I can start collecting its staples. Buying duals and power isn't something I'm willing to do all at once, but I'm perfectly fine building it up slowly. I just need to know what to target before diving in. The deck that I'm going to try first is Dark Times which, ironically, requires the smallest investment. All I'll need are Lotus, Jet, and 4x Dark Depths - I have everything else you'd want for it. But I've always had an affinity for black cards like Bob, Duress, Hymn, Liliana, Necropotence, and YawgWin. So I think I'll start there. I just finished sleeving it up, with some proxies, last night.
There's a Standard format win-a-Lotus I'm planning to attend on Saturday. Wish me luck!

My name is Josh Staples and I am a level 2 Magic judge from Durham, NC. I work full time at Atomic Empire in Durham where I schedule our larger Magic events (you can find top 8 lists from some of our Eternal Weekend events in the tournament reports section of TMD) and manage the front retail end. When I'm not working or playing Magic I am traveling the east coast judging Grand Prix and StarCityGames events, some of you may have seen me around.

Greetings all!
My name is Logan. I'm currently stationed in Jacksonville, NC and am new to the Eternal community. I started playing in Mirrodin block, but I've taken a few extended breaks due to the nature of my profession and stale formats. I would consider myself more competitive than casual. I've been grinding the PTQ circuit off and on for 7-8 years with a few heartbreakingly close calls, but never walked away with the blue envelope. Recently, I've committed much more time to travelling for tournaments in an attempt to qualify.
I'm on modo semi-frequently. My username is CryptCam.
After railbirding these forums for the last few weeks I've found a better sense of community than I've encountered elsewhere in the Magic world. I can tell all of you greatly care about the format. I look forward to learning more about Vintage and participating in my first Vintage events.

Hi,
I am Laurent from France. I started MTG at the near beginning, played some tournaments and stopped MTG in 1997. I played from time to time until 2007 when i started again to play seriously. Luckily i had not sold all my cards when i stopped ! I play some Legacy and Commander but my favourite format is Vintage. The french vintage communauty is not very active but there are some small tournaments (and we have the BOM !) and i also play in spain at LCV when i can. So far my results are quite average (with some small success) but i keep learning and improving ! I have been reading TMD for some times and there are lots of very interessting threads. IMHO, the vintage format has not been so interesting for quite a long time and i look forward playing at the BOM !

Bienvenue à toi Albarkhane I have no doubt you will find an active communauty here (compared to the french vintage websites at least). Looking forward to see a topic about your Workshop deck, it's pretty cool! See ya around

I'm Mike and I live on Maui.
There's barely even any Legacy being played here, let alone Vintage -- but I travel for some events and hope to get some play in off-island.
Really excited to wrap my head around the format.

Hi all! My name is Charlie Tan and I work as a Tournament Organizer Harrison's Comics and Pop Culture in Nashua, NH where I schedule our Magic events, which is almost every day of the week. I started a legacy/vintage play session on Mondays evenings here 2 weeks ago, so if anybody is around town or from around here, please join us and hopefully we can get something going here!
I made my first vintage deck since then and it gave me an excuse to use my Mox Jet, Pearl, Ancestral Recall, Time Vault and Force of Wills. Playtesting the deck is a blast and tweaking the deck is also fun!

Hey y'all, Name's Casey. I was introduced to MtG by my old buddy Dan in 1994. Revised was the core set and The Dark the latest expansion. Yeah I know, Johnny come lately. Can't complain though. Shortly after that first booster pack, which I suspected would yield more useless trading cards, I became hooked. I played casually for a couple of years and collected a bunch. Even after I stopped playing I would continue collecting. I popped in again around Tempest and Urza's Saga to see what new cards had been printed and sink more $ into packs, foolishly perhaps. I had found other games though, namely chess, which I consider to be the most brilliant game ever created. I would argue it is also far more complex. But I bounced around between games and met coworker Jeff in 2003 who had been playing Magic and knew a thing or two. Mirrodin was about to be released and I loathed the new card style, but no problem. I kept adding to my collection of older cards and had finally bought my last 2 power pieces. Jeff put together a really cool Dreams deck for me. I ended up leaving the organization, and with it my assignment overseas, to move back to New England. I unfortunately lost touch with Jeff, but if I ever find him, I wish to tell him how thankful I am for his generosity. Now fast forward though my eventual college years and moves to and from the west coast. This past November, after close to a decade, with the exception of half a dozen casual games a few years ago, I've returned to Magic once again. This time, my focus is on learning the deeper waters of the game, playing competitively and playing to win. My magnificent obsession has been reinvigorated and I'd like to thank my homies at our local game shop for the encouragement. The only format I've ever played is Type 1 aka Vintage because I like being able to choose from ALL of my cards. Plus the artwork of Mr. Frazier et al. is freaking beautiful. When I'm not playing or studying Magic or working for a living, I enjoy practicing aikido, cooking (eating), and gardening. Thanks to all who've posted. This is a great community. Lots of interesting folks on here and I really liked reading some of the introductions (wish I had time to read them all). Also a shout out to the admins and experts who make this site such a valuable resource.

And you've Doomsday'ed your way to a whole bunch of top8s since, as I've seen on Morphling. Welcome to the forums. It was a pleasure playing against your brother at BoM9, even though he kicked me out of top 8 .

Hey guys, avid MTGO classic player here just gearing up for the online vintage switch over next month. Haven't played paper since onslaught when I sold my vintage collection to buy in online, so it's been a while since I've cast any first turn jewelry but I'm looking forward to it.

Greetings!
I've played vintage off and on for about four years in smaller, local vintage communities. Eventually built dredge and monkeyed around between it and other proxied decks.
Having moved not that long ago I'm slowly starting up a vintage league in a new locale. Deciding that dredge would be a less inspiring way to introduce people to the format, I finished acquiring power and am looking forward to the summer season.
Cheers,

Hi I am Pat and as much as I do not know much about Vintage, I am willing to learn and improve my knowledge. I played magic since 96 and played competitively around 03-04. After dropping off the constructed scene, I took a 5 year hiatus and returned back into the game through the Limited format as my re-introduction. Since then, I've been into various non-competitive formats such as Cube and EDH.
A little about myself: I am a Graduate of Cal Poly Pomona and run a start-up branding consulting firm called Ponder Arts. My spare time is usually spent at my LGS which happens to be MTG Deals. They have a really nice play area and lots of cool competitions going on, vintage included. I thought I'd like to share that with everyone.
Anyways, Thanks TMD and I look forward to all your support in the coming months!

Hi, I'm Michael from Germany my friends call me Michael, Weber, Michi, Mike or what else they're up to. I played Magic from 1996-2001 and 2013 i got back to it. inbetween i also played magic but just casual stuff and with the cards i had... Forunatly i did not sell my cards! I am really working on my skills and i have a long-time-buddy on my side who makes kind of the same progress since he didn't has the cards for T1 he is looking for a modern deck mainly we are playing Limited. Since i have the cards to get into Vintage very ease i was searching for decktechs and stuff but it is not easy to find good sources for this very Format. Anyway the more i red the more i got hooked in Vintage! My plan is to play next year BOM i am looking here for knowledge of Metagame and finding the right deck for me... Right now i really feel like playing a fuse of MUD-Stax-Aggro the deck isn't finished yet but i'll will post it when the time has come. Cast on, Mike

Hi there, I'm Simon. Like many others, I played the game in the beginning (1993-1996), stopped, sold my cards and came back a few times. In 2009, I bought everything back so I could play Legacy.
The insane price hike on everything EDH/Legacy I had bought for fun in the last years made me realize that Power wasn't that out of reach. I made up my mind roughly 2 weeks ago, traded in excess reserve-list cards and some Modern-legal cards that are worth too much to my LGS and picked up a few pieces of Power and now I'm good to go. We played Vintage with 4 people tonight and had a great time.
I'll see you around!

Hello everyone, My name is Zack. I live in Central NJ. I started playing magic after the first Duels Of The Planeswalker game on Xbox360, got really into it with a friend and found out there's a card shop less than 5 minutes from my place. I messed around with standard and EDH but after watching some streaming of people playing Vintage, i got hooked. I currently play a workshop variant deck. That's all I have to say about that.

I've actually heard of a lot of people getting back in on the back of the Duels of the Planeswalkers game. Funny to think that Liliana and Chandra may have brought you Vintage.

Hi everyone!
I'm Kory Fox, and I've been playing magic since 99 I believe. I've been playing competitive legacy for the past 4 years in the DC/Baltimore area and just started to get into vintage. Loving it so far. I've mostly been playing Dredge, but I'm starting to try some other powered decks. Hope to see some of you all soon!

Hello everyone,
My name's Charles and I'm from Toulouse, France. I am pretty new to Magic itself (a couple of months) but, as they say, things escalated quickly and it took me a fortnight to buy a standard deck and win my first FNM. From there I kept doing kinda well, eventually at PTQ level, and enjoyed the game more and more until I met an old friend from a video-game store offering me to "play some good old cards with his decks at our local store". So we're sitting at the back table behind EDH/casual players and then I open that 7 without the smallest idea of what I'm playing with. You guessed, it was something like :
- JtMS - Black Lotus - Black bordered USea - me almost fainting
And that was it ! From this very moment my friend -who was desperatly looking for people to play T1 let's be honest- and I started having conversations about the format on a daily basis, testing all sorts of decks thanks to his immense collection, and even planned to go to LCV's in Barcelona. Recently top 8'ed a 30 players legacy tournament after a week of practice and getting more and more into eternal Magic, I hope I can contribute to TMD and reach an enough competitive level to get some cool record in LCV !
See you around !

Hi, my name is Jason and I started playing Spellfire in the summer of 94. Lots of fun till I picked up Magic. Haven't looked back. I brought the game back to my home town in CT, from where i discovered it at Quarterstaff Games in Burlington, VT. Revised was the core set and The Dark was the most recent expansion. I remember the terrible let down that was Fallen Empires and I remember finding a LGS that got a bunch of singles from Legends. I remember my mind being blown by Boomerang and Enchantment Alteration and I still remember the day i realized Svitri Scarzam was really just a bad Craw Wurm. I played in type 1 tournaments at LGS's around CT with a U/B Control list that I still believe to be on par with the old Weisman Deck. I turned a bunch of my buddies on to the game, many still play today! I fell off the Magic train around Alliances, missed Urza Block, and picked it up again right after Kamigawa, just randomly. Ravnica got me hooked again as I met a dude that had been into the tournament scene and he told tales of the brutal Affinity Decks of Mirrodin and the older Trix Decks from Urza block. Magic had grown and gotten considerably more complex and I loved it. Flash forward quite a few years and I find myself married with children and scant time for slinging cardboard. I stumbled upon Eternal Central and the So Many Insane Plays and Serious Vintage Pod Casts and, finding Vintage suddenly so accessible, dove back head first! Honest props to the folks that put those shows together, I think the work they do really does a great service to the community! I've lurked these boards for a few years and absolutely appreciate the folks that have put time and effort into making these boards (and this game) so great! I believe it is truly an awesome community of players and am happy to count myself as a member. So there it is, Cheers! I sincerely hope I can make a positive contribution to the community here at TMD!

Hey I'm Chris and have been playing magic on and off for as long as I could hold the cards and my older cousins and their friends were willing to play against a kid would couldn't read yet and explaining the rules to at any normal speed was out of the question. Since then I left and come and come back to this game every few years depending on where I had moved too and how much money I could get away with spending on new cards. Anyway over the weekend my eldest cousin found one of our old stashes of cards at our grandparents' place and we finally had power cards again, and he sent me some of the pieces. Since I'm now the somewhat proud owner of a black lotus, emmy, ruby, and pearl (all somewhat bent/worn and I think the water damage on the Emmy is actually my drool considering the last time I played with that old aggro dec I was 4 at best) I figured I should join what I've been told is the best forum for vintage. I'll probably be lurking the humans and TMWA theards mostly until I gain more power/replace my current damaged ones, but hopefully my enthusiasm to try and find new ways to attack metas and shake up the status quo leads to something useful for others. ~skål disc
(no I'm not European but I do like how skål sounds rather then cheers)
