Hello, my name is Mark. I started playing shortly after Prophecy was released though the first cards I ever touched were in fact from Mercadian Masques and it remains to this day my favorite set. I played from grade 4 until the released Mirrodin where I was quite displeased with the overwhelming amount of new artifacts (mostly the new borders, though, bothered me... everything before Mirrodin will always have a special place in my heart). Being young, i didnt understand how broken the block actually was, nor was I aware that the cards followed a serious story. In my naiveté, i put my cards aside and didnt look at them 5 years.

I met some people down the line that also had their childhood dominated by the game and we, naturally, reignited our love for the game. I was brought to life in Magic only to witness the lovely abomination that would become known as the wallet sculptor and learned a new definition for the term UW Control. Due to casual play, we eventually got really busy and stopped playing together which ultimately put an end to our playing in general.

Thankfully, some people having simply owned the cards when they were little but never actually engaging in a game, wanted to at the age of 21 learn what they were missing, and i used the oppotunity as a portal back into the game in which i love so much.

2 years later, I was in a store and discovered Yawgmoth's Will and my life, with regards to magic, changed forever. Vintage took over my spare time, and ive been doing nothing but reading and learning about the format ever since, which innevitably has brought me here, to TMD and i couldnt be happier to be a part of the community.

I look forward with extreme enthusiasm to the tournaments in which i cannot wait to attend.

Hello,

I am Kevin from the Twin Cities of MN. I started playing around Revised (Demonic Attorney 4 life). Fast forward about 9 years, I started playing Vintage around Mirrodin and played regularly for about 3 years. After that I stepped away from Magic  until Rise of the Eldrazi. When I came back I was playing primarily Commander until just after Vintage Champs 2013 when the local card store started doing some vintage nights. They never really got big enough to have tournaments, but were enough to get me excited about the format again. With the release of Vintage Masters I have picked up most of the staples for the format, and look forward to playing much more vintage on MODO on user name KDBKGB.

Howdy people!

I'm Tom - I'm a newcomer for the most part - I had some cards 15 years ago but never played.

I started playing online a couple of years ago.  These days vintage is definitely my favorite format on mtgo.
I live in the Bay Area, though, and I'm hoping to get to a paper event soon (when's the next eudo vintage!?)
I don't have any paper cards, either, I guess I should get those.

Anyway, I've played with a bunch of you online already - looking forward to more!

Hi.

Andrew from Melbourne, Australia.

Started playing Magic in 1995, and took a break from 2010 to 2013 but am back as a purely MTGO player now.

I'm playing semi-competitive Vintage on MTGO mostly.

Hello everyone!

My name is Gabe and I've been playing magic since 1995. I just recently decided to get into vintage as there are a few people at my LGS that play, and the collector's allure of the Power Nine is too strong for me to resist. Also, watching the Vintage Super League has gotten me really pumped about the format. I've got Grixis Control mostly put together (all but the Imperial Seal, JTMS, and 8 of the 9).

Outside of Magic, I do archery and blacksmithing. I also work at a startup in San Francisco.

Hi, my name is Keenan. I started playing during Invasion block, started playing competitively after the release of Torment. Have been playing Vintage online (MWS) since 2005, occasionally live when I can borrow cards. Looking forward to contributing to the forums.

Hello, originally got into mtgo around portal playing blue based control primarily. Only just started playing vintage as a format though around a year ago (primarily online using stuff like mws/cockatrice and mtgo). Really love blue based control in vintage!

Hi, I'm Steve, surprisingly enough. You may know me for such achievements as top 8 of a legacy SCG IQ and a modern TCGPlayer event and a brief mention of the beating The Atog Lord himself gave me with Control Slaver. But probably not. I mostly play legacy, although the prevalence of burn has turned me off that lately. I've given up on paper vintage for the time being - I unfortunately have other things to spend my money on than a set of power. I started a little after Revised, and I remember Alpha Lotuses selling for less than $400. Being 7, I wasn't really in a position to buy them.

Online I've been playing vintage RUG Delver, modern Norin the Wary Soul Sisters and I'm 3 Deeds away from legacy BUG Nic Fit. Feel free to add me on MTGO: suicidesteve44. I'm always looking for someone to try my bad ideas out on. I live close enough to Pittsburgh to just say I live in Pittsburgh. I work in a steel mill, cliche as it may be. That's about it I guess. I'm pretty uninteresting.

Hello all. Glad to finally join the forums.  I'm from central Illinois and part of a small group (three of us) working to build a Vintage scene here.  I started playing in 1994, stopped collecting but still played casually and infrequently from 1998-2000, and quit completely when I went to college in 2000.  I didn't return to the game until the beginning of 2013 when my parents found all my old cards in their basement during a move.  I was surprised at the time that the game was still being played (much less thriving).  It didn't take long to get hooked again.  I've been playing mostly Legacy, but I have the cards for Vintage and Old School 93-94 (or Magic 95/96, which is another fun format).  This seems to be a common story for many of us, and I suspect others will be coming back to the game and looking to jump back into the kitchen-table formats of old as they do...hopefully Vintage and 93-94 (or 95-96) get nice boosts in numbers as that happens.

Hi everybody! It's a pleasure to introduce Win&In, a recently created spanish MTG site, to such a great community as The Mana Drain. Recently, we have decided that we wanted our Vintage content translated into English, so that we could reach a larger audience. We plan on posting local tornament reports which include decklists, videos of the top 8 matches, aswell as other articles from our usual Vintage writers. I hope you all enjoy our content!

Greetings,

Inazio

Hey TMD!

Been playing this great game since I popped my first pack of unlimited in middleschool. Recently found out I could actually own some of the original artwork! My research lead me to this group of people. Looking forward to meeting everyone and enjoying the original art. Im also now looking to buy some bazaar of baghdads, so I can port my dredge deck to vintage and get in on all this vintage fun! Looks like a sweet place you guys got going here.

Hi planeswalkers! I'm Diana and I play in the DC area. Just got into "real" Magic last year although I'd played the game before as a kid. I don't have a Vintage deck yet so I'm looking forward to (work)shopping for ideas here Smile

I remember I use to always play a little bit of magic as a child but never understood the game. It wasn't until about 2 years ago I actually understood the rules and about a year ago that I started going into it competitively.

The only formats I play are Legacy and Vintage.

I live in southern Ontario and if anyone is around that plays vintage please send me a message.

Hey everyone!  I'm Ben.  I live in Northwest CT.  I played local Type I stuff for awhile in the late '90s/early 2000s, but quit in high school.  I decided to pick it back up this July.  I'm disappointed that Suicide Black isn't a thing anymore so my Nantuko Shades and Sinkholes are gonna keep collecting dust, but I've picked up Mishra's Workshop and am trying to get used to it.  So far I find it to be a fun deck.

Ben,

I'm moving into Bethel, right outside of Danbury, in the near future. We should probably meet up and work on building a scene in the area.

Hi, my name is Vinnie, I'm from Salt Lake, UT and I've been playing since around 4th Edition. I began playing competitively around Onslaught block, having been to a couple PTs and played in several GPs. I've mostly been a player involved with the newer formats and I only started playing vintage within the past 2 months. I'm currently only playing vintage online, but am already hooked on the format. I came here with the intentions of discussing and learning more about the format with other players.

I'm currently playing RUG Delver on mtgo as I slowly grow my collection there.

i quit magic altogether after timespiral because it's just a completely different game now with the creature power creep and the planeswalkers. didn't seem interesting anymore

i was solely a cuber until shotgun lotus's vintage rotos got me interested then vsl really showed me a glimpse of vintage. nothing would have come of it if not for the fact that i happen to live in columbus where we're lucky enough to regularly get team serious opens where suddenly i can actually explore the format on a shoestring budget.

i brew compulsively and have been pleasantly surprised to find how challenging it is to build in vintage. so few open card slots!

Hi all my name is Pete Mangus, some of you Long Islanders may remember me from Comic Book Depot, Marks Comics and Tri County Flea Market. I started playing Magic around Odyessy Block, and then sold my cards in 06 to another LI local, Josh.  I have poked my head into Depot from time to time, but now that I am married and have some extra income I have had the itch to get back into the game again.  It is great to read that there is a Local Vintage Scene on LI now, having to drive to CT, Rochester, VA, or Philly was one of the reasons I lost interest back then.

Hello. I am Dice and I think it's about time I introduced myself. I am quite lucky as I live in Brisbane Australia and here our Legacy and Vintage scenes are quite strong. With Legacy firing every week without fail and no small amount of Legacy players enjoying a Vintage League that is run over a few months. You work out a time to meet your opponent and you both have a week to play. Works great.

I started in 7th, my last year's of school, a friend of mine gave me a fat pack as a gift. Next thing I knew, Onslaught hit shelves and I was neck deep in goblins. Sadly, about the time Betrayers came out I had my cards stolen and this slowed down my development in playing magic significantly.

About five years ago I found a Goblin Legacy deck online. I grabbed it and was again hooked, playing in the dying embers of Goblins glory years. Soon though I branched out, playing Elves, Painter and Merfolk. Fast forward a few years and I have a substantial Legacy collection. But the drive for me is cracking the game. I have more fun digging around in Battlefield's game code that I do playing the game. Magic for me is the same. I enjoy what makes the game tick, what has shapped it and formed it. What drives choices and construction. Legacy was a gold mine of this level of interaction, but it was not the apex of the climb. That left only one place to go.

I bought into Vintage about a month and a half back. Got my first Mox, a Jet. The prices hit the roof so I thought that there was no point in delaying. I got out a loan and snapped up what I could grabbing the Power 8 (No Twister) Shops, Vault, Library and Drains. It is exciting to have joined this community. Because the information on Vintage is harder to find than it is for other formats. But when you find it, oh there is so much to be found. (Someone even wrote a whole book on one card... Thanks Steve)

So I don't know where exactly I fit on the scale of things. I will play Vintage but I am not here for the games. I am here for the history, for the core of the format. I again feel more at home working out what makes things tick, makes them work. This is what drives me and as I get more information and depth on the topic I hope to have a chance to add something to this small but dedicated community.

Hello.  I'm Mike from Seattle, WA. Been playing vintage for a little over a year now, but have been playing magic on and off since Tempest.  I'm part of a group that's been trying to build a vintage community here in Seattle as there is a large Legacy community here, but vintage was almost non-existent.  The local vintage scene has slowly been building some interest lately(we even got a sanctioned 8 man side event at Card Kingdom's PTQ last weekend).  I look forward to becoming more involved with the community as a whole as I work on building the scene locally.  I got my first taste of sanctioned magic at GenCon this year and had a blast at eternal weekend as well, so I can't wait for what's to come this year in vintage.

I used to play vintage on mtgo, but recently sold out as the client is terrible and I didn't like the idea of having so much money locked up on that client.
