Hello all

Started a long time ago with a significant break, and Vintage proper for a few years now (albeit infrequently). Primarily a Legacy focus, but thoroughly enjoying 93/94 as some of the best games of mtg I've had in years.

Looking forward to getting to some of both BoM and MKM's series next year. Things are looking up in Europe for large independent events.

Hi all

My name is Ben and I'm a vintage player!

I'm based in Scotland and try to get to as many high-level eternal events as I can.  Looking froward to the new BoM series!

Currently trying to make Painter work with the Thirst for Knowledge unrestriction.

I'm also a keen Legacy, OldSchool and Duel Commander player.

Favourite card ever?  Life from Loam.  #Loamcestral

Cheers,
Ben

Hello,

I'm a vintage fan who has been exploring the format for the past couple of months on MTGO. I don't have a paper collection, I solely play online for now. I live in Sweden, the paper vintage scene here is pretty dead so Iエll probably focus on MTGO vintage for now. I have noticed that several online players are becomming more active in the discussionboards and hope to join that train. I also play legacy and modern, again only online. I'm in the UTC timezone and quite interested in playtesting, so donエt hesitate to pm me if you want to get some testing done, I have most decks.

My name is Rich and Vintage is a recent re-addition to my life. I am from the Cleveland area and I played back from 1994-2000 and had my collection stolen. I returned right after Theros and have been enjoying my return to MTG.

I find that my story isn't unique in that I have found plenty of 30-somethings with the same kind of history. I bought into Legacy almost immediately and was able to get power throughout the year in 2015 and now am excited to join the dedicated legion of Vintage players.

So far, I have had most fun playing Mentor Control, Oath and Blue Belcher. I look forward to my chance to play some live Vintage for the first time in a larger environment (though, I have played at my LGS and my buddy recently got into Vintage as well) and am hopeful to hear about some sort of side tourney at GP Pittsburgh. I intend to visit my first Eternal Weekend in 2016.

Anyway, I look forward to continuing to learn and am happy that MTG Goldfish mentioned this site so I could be a part of the community.

Hey Rich, good to have you! There's a decent Vintage scene in Cleveland/Ohio if you're still in that area, including a tournament nearby next week (http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=48004.0). Proxies are definitely allowed, and new players are very encouraged. I'll send you some information and make sure the Cleveland guys get in touch with you.

Hello.
I'm Ben, from Madison, WI. I got into Vintage through the VSL and have been playing a fair bit of MTGO Vintage while building towards a proxied power paper deck. I enjoy BUG Fish, artifact based blue control, and any deck with Cabal Therapy/Young Pyromancer.

Hey guys,

Long time lurker, short time poster here.  I started playing around Urza's block and quit around the time Mirrodin came out.  I started back about 2 years ago or so with Legacy and have slowly moved into Vintage which I now play pretty much exclusively.  I test mostly on cockatrice and play live events the few times a year I get the chance.  I've been thinking about buying into MTGO but I'm still having trouble justifying dropping $1k on digital cards to myself...

Hey everyone, My name is Richard and I live in upstate ny. I have been playing magic sense revised and recently bought into vintage. Love scouring these forums for crazy obscure off the wall decks because that's my jam. When that fails: time vault + voltaic key

Hey everyone,
i'm Christian from Germany. I played very casual Magic from 4th Edition/Ice Age until Mercadian Masques. Then i quit and played a lot of other Trading Card Games (Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Call of Cthulhu, Legend of the 5 Rings etc.).
Around New Phyrexia i got back into Paper Magic and started playing tournaments. Though i never had Power back then, i am very glad that i never sold my Collection Smile

Since the release of Vintage Masters on Mtgo i'm playing Vintage and enjoying it so much that i, despite the rising prices, bought into Paper Vintage.

Good for you. There's a free player-run MTGO tournament you can join if you're not in the Daily Events yet, or if you just want something else to play in. It's listed on www.gatherling.com and right here in online tournament announcements

Hi,
I'm Piernicola from Italy.

I started playing Magic with friends and brothers when I was 16 buying Revised / The Dark / Ice Age boosters and those were the best games of Magic ever! I quit after a few years because my friends got tired of the game... I got into the game again during the uni years playing a few Vintage tournaments in the Tuscany area (Massa, Viareggio, Firenze, Piacenza) where I met a lots of nice guys (Siral, Chill, Enea) who could really play the game and from whom I learned a lot. I used to play an unpowered red sligh which gave me huge satisfactions unfortunately losing pretty consistently against Madness & TPS.

I quit again after the uni period and now I only seldom play with my closest friends and brothers casual Vintage or with my precious cube!
I still read about MTG because I feel it's one of the best games out there.

I've hungrily read TMD for years and since its creation and think without doubts it's the best MTG Vintage forum ever.

I's now a pleasure to be a TMD user after so many years Very Happy

Hi everyone. First time poster, been lurking for about 2 years.
When it started: started playing M:tg in torment when I saw the art for a foil Ichorid I pulled from a pack and thought "this is rad". Started playing again a few years ago after selling my collection in 2010 (I know I broke the first rule of magic). Started playing vintage in Jan 2014 and haven't been able to kick the habit since. I also play legacy but I find that vintage is more of a passion of mine. I'm situated on long Island NY and have been active in the vintage scene in the north east for about a year and a half.

Hello, my name is Steven. I've been playing vintage for a couple years now, but I mostly played Legacy. nedleeds got me into it when he ran a vintage league in Atlanta while I was still in school. I recently moved to upstate New York, and now I'm playing a lot more vintage online since nowhere around here has Legacy or Vintage consistently. I played about a million bad young pyromancer decks until I realized that I actually just want to cast Moat in every deck all the time, so I've just been playing Keeper with Moat for the past four months or so and having a complete blast with it. I top-4'd the most recent Players Guild vintage event, and that made me want to actually get more involved with vintage as a whole, so now I'm here.

Hey! I'm Joe. Been playing Magic off and on for 20 years (since I was 8). I played Legacy seriously a few years ago before selling out completely; now I just moved to Brooklyn and I'm back and deeper than ever. Playing a lot of Legacy and taking my L1 Judge exam soon. One of the stores in Queens (The Geekery) is starting up a Friday Night Vintage every month, so I figured I'd put Dredge together and play it. I'm terrible with it so far, that's why I'm here!

In Legacy, I play Burn right now, also working towards SI, Burning Reanimator, Abzan Deadguy/Rock, and Grixis Delver.

Hello everybody,

I'm Philippe, a Vintage aficionado from Belgium and longtime lurker here on TMD.
I started playing casually when I was 17 with Revised, but stopped after Mirage due to the dissolution of my college playgroup.
I got back into MtG with 9th ed. but quickly grew disillusioned with the rotating formats, and gravitated first towards Legacy, then Vintage.
Besides a career(s) in healthcare and academics, a wife (also a MtG player!) and a 12-year old daughter, I'm currently working to help foster a Vintage community and tournament scene in my city.

Cheers!

Hi all,

I'm Chris, a local player and L2 judge in Atlanta who is just getting into the vintage format. I played way back in the early years around Legends through Urza block, back when "The Deck" was the king of Type 1. Everything was either sold, traded away or lost in various moves prior to college, but then I got back into the game around RTR block when some friends opened up a hobby store near my house. It snowballed, as these things do, and I got into judging events to help grow my collection. It has really worked in my favor, and I just finished up my set of power in early December. That's one childhood ambition down. Smile

We have a vibrant legacy scene in Atlanta with a fair number of well known vintage players, and I look forward to learning more about the format. This site has been invaluable so far. Next month is the local shop's first no proxy, Vintage FNM, and I'm reading all that I can.

Thanks, and nice to meet everyone!

Hey, this is Chris Gregory.

Learned how to play in like 98, didn't really learn how to play until 2001 Razz
Played a lot from then (well, sold my power at PT NO in 2004 and got out of Vintage) until 2006 when WOTC ruined GP Flash...err Columbus...by removing the power level errata of Flash and ruining 2 years of testing...finished 6-3 at that GP losing to flash twice and sold off my entire collection so that I wouldn't play again.  That's why my account is old but has a like 7 year gap in between posts haha.

Well, like most of us I'm a moron and in 2013 bought back in.  At first only got back into standard/modern.  Then back into legacy. Now back into Vintage in 2015.  Have about 23 pieces of power currently (set of beta and unlimited + some alpha and extras).  Haven't gotten into 93/94 yet but am interested, I just don't have that much time for playing.

This summer I built and omnioath and UR the answer leading up to my first Vintage event in 11 years.  I settled on UR and got 5th in a cut to top 4. Whoops.  Then the last b/r update gutted 3 dtt from omnioath and 3 chalice from the answer so I haven't figured out what I want to play yet.  I currently have grixis pyromancer sleeved up but it just doesn't have the multiple axis to attack from that I want and feels less powerful even though YP costing less than mentor can be nice (cast Gush in response to a balance the other day and opp never got back to 3 mana for his mentor before I killed him).

I've been reading through various posts but haven't been able to figure out what I want to do.  I feel like I really want vault/key/tez in a deck but don't want that to be the only way I win.

Priority in what I'd like to beat is something like this:

mentor first
shops/dredge second
merfolk/2-1/oath 3rd|
hatebears, etc 4th

Glad this site is still up unlike mtgnews Razz

Hi, I'm Tom.

I started playing in the late 90's, but only casually. Quit for a very long time and recently got into vintage.

Now that I'm addicted to vintage I wish I was playing it all along.

Love the site, lots of useful information to a novice.
