Silly superhero look-a-like, everyone knows mountains are red, sky is blue and meadows are white.

I voted other, because I'm pretty sure the background isn't supposed to represent anything at all--it's just a background.
Bing-fucking-o.
Yes, completely non-representational.

To my understanding the lotus is an aquatic flower.
This is correct. Lotuses grow in water.

Note that in Vintage, Lotus is usually an indicator of the proximity of Islands and/or Swamps.

I have never ever ever given a damm what is in the background when playing a Lotus and I don't intend to start now.

I'd also have to agree that it isn't representational in any way. From what little I know of christopher rush, it looks like he paints in acrylic.  And there is a technique that involves plastic wrap, wet paint, and a blow dryer that gives a final result that looks very much like the background of the lotus.

I always thought it looked like some bacteria growth or maybe green slime mold. Or with it being aquatic, algae would work.

Seriously, if "Flower in front of a green backround" isn't good enough, then my next answer would be "Flower in front of a blown-up picture of green bacteria".
