What's up with people running REALLY horrible Ubastax lists, too?
Does everyone's list have to be the same as yours, Colby? I mean, they must be doing something right. Not every list has to be the same. - DShell Colby is the UBASTAX MASTA. How dare you criticize him? Congratulations to JR, couldn't have picked a kinder, wiser, more likeable top 4 winner. Seriously, the guy is a saint. We are myspace friends on the internet. Kick ass JR!! And lastly, Most of you don't know this but there are actually two themanadrain.coms. the first is the one we are logged onto, and the second is one that only a few of the adepts and the mods know about. All of the mods are probably going to be upset with me for revealing this to the public, but you can find it at: www.thehiddenmanadrain.comSteve's SB is posted on there in the tournament forums.

True JR is one of the coolest laid back people I know. Kudos to him for going operation clean sweep. He has some of the best stories too if you ever get to ride with him. So rumor does have it that there are multiple TMD's foating around. I new there was a reason that my comp played the James Bond theme every time I logged on the the Drain. The real secret is how does the average user crack the code to be able to post on the secret sites. Only the few secret elite get to have access to those. www.thehiddenmanadrain.com is amazing, the secret decks in development are so ground breaking that I cannot even begin to explain whats about to hit are favorite format! You just have to see for yourself.

FFY and Hi-Val I love how you guys are dropping clues to find the secret forums. Its tough to figure them out, but once you do the knowledge you gain from the secret forums is amazing. I feel almost god like being able to read what the secret elite post on the secret forums.

Congratulations to JR, couldn't have picked a kinder, wiser, more likeable top 4 winner. Seriously, the guy is a saint. We are myspace friends on the internet. Kick ass JR!! Or JR is one of the laziest! I can't wait for his amazing tournament report of round 1 - bye, round 2 - 2-0 win, round 3 - 1-0 win, draw, draw, me scooping to him, and him walking out with cash. How do you Top 4, walk out with cash, while only playing 4 real games? JR can!

Is that true?! Oh, man, this tournament just gets better and better!
And I can't seem to get into thehiddenmanadrain. It keeps giving me a "401 Error – User would play Words of Weirding if it was viable and therefore is unable to access this site." Is this normal? What if I promise to play Words of Worship only on the casual circuit?

I can't get into thehiddenmanadrain.com, either. The server keeps asking me riddles, and I can't figure any out. It keeps saying, "401- ERROR: Halt! How wouldst yonder schaliwag play such a Hand of Gifts:". I'm no good with hypothetical Gifts hands.

I had a blast playing T4. Paul "Molestriano" "I invented Type 4" Mastriano had Kaervek out. So EOT Lyle casts Sickening Shoal for 1000 and Paul cackles with glee. He points it at me... and gets it Reflect Damaged back at him. Paul got to hand out about 10 more damage but he was out for the count. I won that game with an early Winding Canyons, letting me play Armored Guardian and Simic Sky Swallower at EOTs. I followed up with Tatsumasa, The Broken Fang and then Canyon'ed in Ur-Dragon. I was *elated* to find that I had Nicol Bolas in my deck.
I think I killed 3 or 4 players myself in that game. It's the first time I've won T4 I think.
I hate defensive abiltites and their awesomness VS inferno. THat game was very underpowered and I feel like I never should have lived to place 2nd but then again, nobody did much of anything.

I can't tell if this was sarcasm or not... Not sarcasm. Truth... As it is in actually mentioned in the Bible. (More than once) There was once a primer on "How to beat Evenpence". It was translated into 6 different languages. But then the author was arrested and fined for libel. Not to mention that "beat" and "Evenpence" printed in that order is grammatically incorrect. (Not to be confused with "Evenpence beat..." which is the beginning of one out of every 5 sentences spoken)

Funny to see that Bushman did not pollute his decklist with a win-now condition. Bounce all opponentes creatures, blow his permanents up and end with x 2-power creatures on the board and a grip of countermagic.
This never went wrong?

Bushman -
Any comments on Leyline? Were they better or worse than the maindeck crypt? Would you run them if you expected to play Long?

Bushman actually doesn't often use the internet, but I remember asking him how the Leylines were at the end of round 4 and he said he had yet to draw one in the opening grip but always drew one 2-3 cards down : )

I mean, 2/3 didn't run Mana Crypt and 3/3 didn't run Mana Vault. I mean, QUE? The only reason I cut mana crypt, and was pretty much the only one of us at the time (me, vroman, colby) is because I don't play Smokestack. If I played Smokestack, I would NOT cut the card.
I've never played Uba Stax but I've played against it forever and what you say is absolutely correct here. If you're not running Smokestack or a really quick kill (Karn, Hydra, Trike, Jugg, etc.) and you get a respectable lock, Mana Crypt becomes your opponent's lone win condition. I've won far too many games keeping Welder off the board (or letting their own Chalice @ 1 do the work) and riding opponent's Mana Crypt to victory and it's a shame because most of the times I was almost 100% locked out and should have lost. Waiting around for recurring Barbarian Rings and Welder Beats is not a great position to be in when you get randomly lightning bolted every upkeep. The older builds with multiple Smokestacks and some Gorilla Shamans were better able to control the Crypt. -BPK

Exactly. This is why I cut crypt even before my article went up on SCG, though for the purpose of that article it included Smokestacks as well, which I wasn't too keen on. I have lost more than my share of games to mana crypt, and I can say that for a while a good portion of the games I lost WAS to mana crypt.

Vs Goblins:
Colby has 2x Ensnaring Bridge on the table, his opponent has 2x Goblin Piledriver on the table. Colby draws Mox diamond and proceeds to geat beat the hell down since he can't cast the Diamond and he can't find a land to get it out of his hand.

I cannot sympathize with you guys. I have. I lost a game when my opponent had no permanents at Gencon, and I had the game locked with Crucible, and Trinisphere (as well as a few other goodies). I was unable to locate one of the 10 remaining blue sources in my deck to cast Tinker to get rid of the Crypt. I lost 7 rolls over the course of 10 or 12 turns for the loss. Or Smokestack. I couldn't find that either. I won the match though. I had stomped him good game 1, and game 3 was basically a repeat of the previous 2, without the Mana Crypt killing me.
