The primary purpose of this poll is to determine interest in a Vintage tournament here at Myriad Games (in Salem, NH, just over the MA border) that would ban Yawgmoth's Will. There would be no other changes to the Banned / Restricted list other than moving Yawgmoth's Will from restricted status to banned status. Fifteen (15) proxies would be included with entry, as with our regular Vintage events. Prizes would use our usual scaling prize structure with a Mox++ for 1st place and prizes for the entire Top 8, plus delicious Myriad Games Mana Cookies, and a variety of cool side events. This event would not replace our regular monthly Vintage tournament (the next is coming up on March 24th), but would be an additional tournament to offer a change of pace. If you are interested and would actually attend, please vote "Yes" and post any comments or suggestions you may have. If you are from the local area but would not attend, please vote "No" and post any comments or suggestions as well. If you are not from the local area but would be interested in attending if this event were local, please vote "Unable to Attend Due to Distance" Thank you to everyone in advance for your feedback. Depending on the results from this poll, we may post a follow-up poll to help determine the best date. This bonus tournament would take place either on a Saturday or Sunday, most likely within the next 4-6 weeks.

I would likely attend this, just because Myriad tournaments in general and because the event would be a very interesting experiment. The tournament would give us some real hard evidence on what Will does to a metagame, although the evidence would not be totally definitive. I would warn however that a tournament that bans Will could perhaps lead to a general break off unsanctioned Vintage magic from the DCI B/R list. This would not be a good thing and although it is not likely to occur it is something to keep in mind.

I have very little interest in doing this. I don't think that it will prove much, because people won't want to test an entirely new format for just one event. This means most likely you will just get a random hodgepodge of normal decks without Will.
I can only spend X amount of time on Magic now that I've graduated, and honestly I'd rather spend it playing Type I. It's not like it wouldn't be fun for non magic purposes (both during the event and after the event), but if I'm only allowed X fun/month, I'm going to budget accordingly.
If I do get to hit up a second event this month, it will be going with you all to Eld's event.
But hey, if it floats your boat and draws a crowd, why not.
P.S. Tyler, you still owe me dinner from like 2 years ago. Thats right, I'm keeping track of the interest bitch.

Great Idea, and I would be there for this one. I would love to see how people would change their decks in reaction to the loss of yawg. will. Then again, if it is a myriad event im there anyways.(holding down the tumbling dice tables)
I believe a tournament like this could be fantastic. After reading the long discussion on the b/r list, i think the power to shape the format is in the hands of the players. At least that is the way I interpret WoTC's statements of not having enough time to review our lists. I can't wait to try out new ideas, and see what the feedback will be like.

This is a really bad idea. Just hold a normal tournament. Banning cards because they are "too powerful" should be reserved for legacy.

I can't do this, but this is a really intriguing idea.
I wonder if you guys would have the issue with people showing up with illegal decklists anyways, and whining when they get there and you announce for the umpteenth billionth time that Yawgmoth's Will is banned for the day.
Just as long as this doesn't lead to a break from Wizards and the Vintage community, it seems like a great idea. One tournament can't do that though, so it's all good.

I think the most surreal thing is when a complete stranger you meet at a tournament hears your name and goes "Oh, yeah. I've read your stuff." It's kind of weird, yet feels good all at the same time.

I would attend just to see If I can peg the meta right. I would probably be able to drag along Jer or Eric.
I think the major selling point is that it won't replace any of the future normal vinatage events at Myriad. You guys are basically the only place left holding monthly tournements (well aside from ELD).
So as long as no vintage events are getting back-burnered .. the more tournements the better!

Thank you to everyone who has voted so far and again to everyone who has left feedback. It's great to determine a level of interest. And yes, to restate in case people are confused, this would not replace one of our regular monthly Vintage events, but would be an additional event, either as a back-to-back Sunday event with either our March or April tournament or on a separate Sunday (perhaps April 1st), given that our Saturday event schedule is booked for the relevant weeks that do not coincide with a major Magic event (GP Mass, Prerelease, etc). This tournament is not designed to facilitate the start of a movement to break unsanctioned Vintage from the official sanctioned B/R list, but is intended as a pleasant diversion and an additional pseudo-Vintage event (Type 1.1?) to serve the community. In any case, if we do go ahead with this bonus Vintage tournament, it would be well advertised as sans Yawgmoth's Will (probably a big No Yawg Will image similar to a No Smoking sign on the tournament announcements) to avoid confusion. Not making any further changes to the B/R list will help avoid undue consternation.
Keep the votes and feedback coming!

I'd have to double check with the wife on this, but if anyone were interested in comming from afar to attend this tournament, I may be able to provide lodgings overnight. This way, people like Smmenen/MoxLotus/dicemanx/whomever who was down south, up in canadia, or in the west could potentially attend. PM me if you're interested, and I'll talk to the wife about this as a potential opportunity.

Honestly I don't think much will change. It will be harder for devoted combo decks to win but the printing of ETW made Gifts much less reliant on Will. It no longer needs BB and 10 storm to win, instead it just needs R and as little as 0 spells to win so Will isn't as big a factor. I can even see control decks just going -1 Yawgmoth's Will +1 Something else good.

I would love a event without will. Im just so sick of losing to completely random wills. This would also promote rogue decks, giving the format alot more variety then what is now (slaver, gifts, and long are dominating tournaments around the globe, coincedently they all run will ). Also my dad would get a kick out of playing his old sui list. But you would probably get better attendance for a myriad legacy event. Either way it would be fun.

This is an absolutely terrible idea. To people that are angry at losing to random Yawgmoth's Wills, dont play type 1. Type 1 is an amazing format because of the change of hands on how games are played by single cards unlike other formats. Its suppose to be explosive and random unlike other formats where you see X decks Y times during a period in a year with Z cards in each of those X lists. People lose to random a random tinker or ancestral but you dont see anyone pushing to ban those cards? If one must play with some amount of powerful cards but feel they need to not have certain ones in the format, move to legacy and stop complaining. Sorry but there is no median between legacy and type 1.
Control lists will not simply remove Yawgmoth's Will and put in +1 of a different card because it would cause the entire list to change retrospectively. Gifts does not become gifts because instead of recouping will you would have to simply recoup something like tinker or tendrils which is completely un-stellar.
Leave banninations for legacy, suck it up and play with or agaisnt the cards that define type 1.

1) I think this is an interesting idea, could provide interesting results for future format discussion, and you'd get lots of people to show up.
2) I wouldn't call it a "Vintage" tournament sans YWill. I'd call it a "Willy Nilly" tourney, or anything, but don't claim it's T1.
3) I wouldn't want this to replace the regular monthly T1 either.

Thanks again to everyone for the continued feedback. Interesting suggestion on the name, GA - "Willy Nilly". I'm also considering "Type 1.1". Most likely the official tournament announcement would playfully underscore the absence of Yawgmoth's Will with an explanation in the description of the banned/restricted list. It certainly will not replace one of our regular Vintage events. The admission that Gifts decks cannot simply replace Yawgmoth's Will with another good card certainly underscores the relevance of the interaction between those two, which seems to be a core assumption for those arguing that either Gifts should be restricted or Yawgmoth's Will should be banned. Whatever your thoughts, it does seem that many people are generally interested in seeing what the outcome of such an event would be.

Sorry but there is no median between legacy and type 1. I think you're missing the point. People aren't mad about losing to topdecks, people are sick of yawg will centric decks. Gifts and Long are probably the format's most defining deck's, both which are built on the same card, Yawgmoth's Will. Will has set the standard for decks in vintage so high, that some people feel that its limiting the diversity of decks in the format.
