That sideboard can only come from the mind of a madman.

Funny how the fish hate drops from 3 massacre and an abyss to just one massacre for this tourney.  I wonder if that had anything to do with me not being there. :p

Other random thoughts:

I wish I went to this instead of bombing out at ptq.  The list I would've played is pretty much Dana's card for card.  We worked on it for a while and it was pretty solid.  Terrible Bomberman match though.  Now they have serra avenger and exalted angel.
Damn you Dan Cunningham... straight to hell!

Rich has a very detailed and tweaked ichorid list it looks like.  Not bad for someone who had "no idea" what he was playing the night before.  :p

Aven Mindcensor in gifts sideboard is very interesting.

Stax still looks solid in this metagame, which is very surprising to me.

Every single deck in the top 8 had a very detailed plan for Ichorid even though only 3 showed up. That shows the effect the deck has on this format.  I suspect the hate not to drop anytime soon.  I think 4-7 sideboard slots should be devoted to the deck completely.

Very interesting results.  Thanks for posting them Eric.  Hopefully I can make it to the next one.

Sorry for asking, but what makes Serra Avenger so much better than Old Man, which also works pretty good against Bomberman. I ' ve tried out Exalted Angel as well and found it just so so with all these Echoing Truthes around. Without these both you could easily cut the second Plains and exchange it with another fetchland which seem to fit the Mana Drain route better. Or you could try out Tolaria West which can be an interesting option with Strip Mine and Library around. Thanks for the info!

Old Man is often just slower and weaker than Serra Avenger a lot of times.  He is one mana more, is blue (REB), his ability can be hit with pithing needle (very important for the mirror) and a lot of times he will just sit on the board as a 2/3 waiting for a creature to steal instead of just winning.

Grats to the Bomberman players, those lists are pretty similar to what I've been testing.  Mindcensor shores up the combo/gifts matches pretty nicely.

"After these years of arguing I've conceded that Merchant Scroll in particular can be an exception to this rule because it is a card that you NEVER want to see in multiples, under any circumstances. Merchant Scroll can be seen as restricted in a way because should you have 2 in a hand, only one is really useful (that is, only one can get Ancestral)."

Ray's list was indeed written down as having 5 crucible.  Perhaps 2 of them were Smokestacks :-p

My guess is 2x CotV. He only has two in his sideboard and none maindeck.

Ray:

I'm more and more mystified by your deck:

1) No maindeck Chalice

2) no maindeck Sphere of Resistence

Without those cards, I have no idea how you beat Gifts/Long.

Do you expect them to care about Tangle Wire/Wasteland/and Shaman or do you just always draw Trinisphere or Balance?

You don't even have In The Eye.   You have no way to force interaction on turn one except for Balance, Strip Mine, and Trinisphere.

Heck, I'm flummoxed as to how he beat HulkFlash.  It's not like Tangle Wire is very hot against fast combo...

I actually had 2 chalices main and brought in the other two along with choke, REB, etc against gifts/long.

The other comment in this thread about me writing down 2 crucibles instead of 2 chalice is clearly what happened.

Street Wraith in Ichorid/Dredge is a given, but I am curious as to how all the other Street Wraiths panned out? Was it worth it?

I can say the street wraiths weren't bad but since the benefits of running a 56 card deck are purely statistical I can't really say yes gifts was better with them. I liked them and i'll run them again. The most redic street wraith play i made though was first turn drawing like 5 or 6 cards off double street wraith into ancestral.

I kept a hand of Street Wraith x4, Ancestral, Goblin Welder, Time Walk.

One of the four cards was City of Brass.

Another time, I kept a similar 3 Wraith no land hand...that time things didn't pan out.

I guess I'm still on the fence about them.

The odds of having 4x Street Wraith in hand is like virtually nothing.  The odds are 1% to have all 4 in hand by Turn 11.  I wouldn't use that as a good judging tool.

It is hard to argue against Street Wraith given those results.  With Rich and Andy sweeping the swiss and Stefan spitting in the finals, it does indicate that the effects of Street Wraith is worth it.  I know there were a few games won during the event from Street Wraith beats, which cannot be overlooked.  It would seem to me that the speed of the format makes the 2 life from cycling even less of an issue.

Tangle wire is better then you think considering those lists were 5 color and using scroll as a crutch to find flash + bounce.

I know the games I lost were as direct results of tangle wire keeping me off mana durring my mainphase.
