ELD's Mox XII - This Time it's Black Lotus 3/29

I'm am thrilled to announce the ultimate ELD Event.  Coming off a very successful event with Still Point Comics, we're returning to their spacious store for the final showdown.  At my last event 34 of New England's best battled it out to the very end.  When the dust settled Rich Shay added another victory, and a Mox Sapphire, to his collection.  Who will now make their mark by winning the ultimate ELD event?

Here are the details:
ELD's Mox Tournament XII
Saturday, March 29th, 2008
$40 Entry Fee

with:
Still Point Comics

located at:

120 S. Main St.
Fall River, MA 02721-5325
Phone: (508)674-5569

Parking is on the street (don't pay meters, it's free on Saturday) and in the lots behind the building.

All ELD events adhere to the Universal Tournament Organizer Guidelines.

You can pre-register by sending me an PM or e-mailing me at EricELD@comcast.net  You do not need to pay ahead of time, this is just to get a head count.  Preregistrations must be received by Thursday, March 27th.  Everyone who pre-registers will be entered into a drawing for a Foil ELD Proxy!  This one will be a foil Black Lotus.

I appreciate all the support I've received from the community, and anticipate the continued growth of Vintage in New England.  This is the final event where I give proxies to all participants, but I will continue to run events.  I will have my future plans on display at this event.

First place prize will be a Black Lotus.  The Black Lotus is Guaranteed!

Prizes Based off 34 people.

1st Black Lotus +Guaranteed+
2nd Playset of 4x Underground Sea
3rd 1st pick of either Playset of 4x Force of Will or Alpha Berserk
4th 2nd pick of either Playset of 4x Force of Will or Alpha Berserk
5th - 8th 4x Pick from Swag including ELD Proxies, Foils and other hot cards, or 2x Pick from Mega Swag including Dual Lands, Force of Will and other tournament staples.

5th - 8th 4x Pick from Swag including ELD Proxies, Foils and other hot cards, or 2x Pick from Mega Swag including Dual Lands, Force of Will and other tournament staples.

Prizes will be adjusted based on attendance.  100% of the entry fees will be put towards the prizes.  Thanks to Chester Li's generosity, there will be even more goodness added to the prize pool.  These cards will be added to the Top 8 Prizes regardless of attendance, and will not detract from the entry fees in any way.  These are strictly a bonus provided by the magnanimous Chester Li.

That's what to expect out of all of my tournaments.

A Limited Edition hand-made Black Lotus
will be given to every single player just for playing.  These "ELD Proxies" do not count towards your proxy count for all my future events, or at any Myriad Games events.  I will only be making 50 of these.*  Players may reserve specific numbered proxies when they pre-register.  Here is my first effort for Black Lotus

These are the other proxies I have made so far.

There will be give aways during this event, which will not have anything to do with the prize structure.  Details on these will be released each week as we get closer to the event.

Cost
$40.

Registration begins at 10:00 AM.  Decklists must be received by 11:00 AM.  The tournament will begin at 11:30 AM sharp.  Swiss rounds based on attendance - Cut to top 8.  I will be on hand to purchase/sell cards starting at 9:00 am.

Proxy rules
15 Proxies.  ELD Proxies from my previous events do not count towards your proxy limit.

Also -
Pizza will be available by the slice, as well as snacks and soda.
Side Drafts will take be available all day with discounted draft sets.
I will have singles for trade/sale
I will be buying cards.
      Commons/Uncommons/Lands mixed (at least 10% uncommon) @ $5 per 1000
      Bulk rares @ $0.10 each
      Bulk Foils @ $0.05 each
Bulk Foil Rares @ $0.25 each
I'll be buying any and all cards – turn your unwanted cards into cash!

I Look forward to seeing you all there.

*If we go over 50 players, I will make the balance after the tournament as to make sure everyone who plays gets an ELD Proxy Lotus.  Receipt of these proxies will be arranged between myself and the players owed the proxy.  Possible delivery includes pick up at a future event, or a Myriad Event, or if neither is possible, via mail.

********************************************************************
Preregistered Players- Names appearing in Bold are beyond the first 50 pre-registrations.  As there were only 50 proxies made for the event, they will be next in line if people who are pre-registered are unable to attend.  Everyone will receive a ELD Proxy Black Lotus as noted above.

In all honesty ELD, that's a pretty hefty entry fee.  I realize that you have to ensure that you'll get your money back for the lotus but your attendance will definitely be limited by the costly entry.  Also, the prize drop from first to second and so on is huge.  So much so that it is really not feasible for anyone traveling any sort of distance to come in any place other than first.  Have you considered this?

$40 Entry Fee

Echoing sentiment above.  I mean really, I do attempt in good faith to make time and show up for your tournaments (string of unfortunate coincidences though, most recently it fell on the same day as my brother's marriage) but I won't make any attempts to attend something with a fee that large.  Don't get me wrong, I think the prize support is fine, and you do run an excellent event, but to me no event is worth this kind of money.  I would not pay that kind of entry fee for Waterbury or SCG and they are providing a huge amount of prize support above and beyond what you've advertised.

I do expect the attendance to be limited to less than a traditional Lotus tournament by the entry fee.  I am not hoping for a TMD Open style event, but another event in the style that I have been running, but with a Lotus for 1st.   I have updated the prizes to show what 44 players would look like.  With the New Hampshire and Connecticut crews on board, we could easily go beyond 44.  My last event had 34, with many people not able to make it.  To me, the ideal event would be 50 players, with no more than 64 players.  Of course, anyone who's been to any of my events knows that 100% of the entry fees go towards the prize pool.  If you have any questions about the prizes, you can check out my TO Report on ELD's Mox XI later tonight (Just waiting to convert the RAW files so I can post pics at the same time).

The feedback at my event, as well as from New England Vintage on Facebook has been extremely positive, and I'm already getting pre-registrations.  People are excited about the idea, and I do expect this to surpass everything I have done up to this point.  Stillpoint is also very excited about this, and we are making improvements on all fronts to make this event as successful as possible.

I'll be there.  As usually ATHF artwork incorporated into the lotus would be appreciated.

See you soon,

Provided my travel schedule doesn't change, I'll be to this.

$40 is nothing. I'm more than happy to pay this fee.

To all those who think this is a ridiculous entry fee I say something must be wrong with you, look at the prize support. In addition everyone know ELD puts 100% of the money he receives into prize support, not to mention the ridiculous time and effort he puts forth into making these proxies. Ill certainly be there man I support all your events and will continue to because you are a great TO and a generous person.

I am torn as to what the price will do to attendance.  I know the thought of a lotus for first ensures that I will undoubtably be there(please pre-reg me) but I wonder about more casual players.  Will they come play or pass?

I encourage them to come.  Eric's tourneys are first rate and well run.  He gives a heck of a lot out in prizes and Stillpoint is a pretty cool place just to hang out.

How often do you get to play in a Lotus tourney, seriously?  This event should be awesome.

I was once asked on MWS, what the highest I ever finished at a TMD Open was.  I replied, "I've never played in a Waterbury.  I was then called "A TOTAL NOOB!"

To hell with the casual players! I come because I enjoy playing the best players vintage can muster up!

Also, I think this proxy is worth about $15 so I'm only considering the entry fee to be $25
math for the win(come on guys I'd pay 20 for this hot proxy)

The prize support and the fact that we are all getting the Lotus proxie makes the $40 entrance fee on point. The fact that there are not many Lotus events adds to fact. ELD's events are top notch and I haven't ever been disappointed with his prizes or the way he runs his tourneys. I wouldn't worry just come and have a blast. See ya there. Peace.

While my work schedule and other obligations tend to interfere with tournament plans, I plan to do everything I can to make this.  After finally getting the chance to go to an ELD event this month, I was extremely impressed with how smoothly things ran.

I'll definitely be there, you can Pre-Reg me Eric.

I've travelled farther, paid higher entrance fees, and had far less fun at other Black Lotus events that weren't run half as well as your tournaments are.  Throw in an awesome proxy and this goes from being a "no-brainer" to a "dead relative won't keep me away" status.

I am overwhelmed by the positive response I continue to receive about this event.  I wanted to go all out for my final proxy, and this is shaping up to be the ultimate event.  I have 34 players pre-registered, and we are still too far out for many players to commit.  People are really getting excited about this tournament, and at this pace, we will certainly break the record for attendance at my events.  Thank you to everyone who has pre-registered, this will allow us to make sure things run as smoothly as possible.

I'll be bringing the Foil ELD Proxy Lotus to Myriad tomorrow, in hopes that it's shininess will ensure some more pre-registrations.  (They're always more shiny in real life.)  Everyone who pre-registers will be entered into the drawing for this Foil ELD Proxy Black Lotus.

I sent you an email to preregister because I couldn't reply at the time, but now I'm letting you know here. I'll be there. Maybe I can get a Bee enroute to pollunate my black lotus on the proxy. That might be a cool proxy. Or a hummingbird sticking its long beak into the lotus  Surprised

Thank you to everyone who has preregistered.  We have 40 so far, with another 17 who have expressed interest but are not sure if they will be able to attend.  This is shaping up to be a very memorable event.  I have received several requests for custom proxies, and I look forward to making them.  For custom requests, I ask that if you are unable to make the event for any reason, that you purchase the custom proxy for $15.  The deadline for custom requests is next Friday, March 14th.  Here are some examples of custom modifications that I have done recently.

I have a lot of extra things to do for this event, so I will not be able to leave any proxy details to the last minute.  I'll be at Myriad tomorrow with the Foil ELD Proxy Black Lotus for those who haven't seen it yet.

The response at Myriad was very good, with many players there who have not pre-registered expressing interest in attending.  The magnanimous Chester Li will regrettably not be in attendance, so he donated some mega foil cards to the prize pool.  These cards and are strictly a free add on.  Thank you Chester on behalf of all the players who will be in attendance.  Your generosity is tremendous.  The cards are viewable in the original post.

Pre-registered player list added to original post.  If you're not on the list, you are not yet pre-registered.  Please be sure to include your full name when you pre-register, as SN's can create errors on the day of the event.  I will be announcing a deadline for the pre-registration, and it will be before 3/28.  We will have to arrange the store the day before in order to accommodate what will certainly be a record breaking crowd for one of my events.  The deadline for requesting custom proxies is tomorrow.  In order to request a custom proxy, please contact me and have some reference material that I can work off.

Pre-registrations must be in by Thursday, March 27th.  If you are not sure you'll be able to attend, please let me know.  I will need a fairly accurate head count in order to make sure the event runs as smoothly as possible.  The custom modified art has been completed and can be viewed in the original post.  I hope they will be enjoyed.
