Unlimited Proxy Vintage Tournaments Mondays - 7 pm $6 entry fee
with Scholar's 34 Central Sq Bridgewater, MA Phone: (508) 279-1712
Prizes: Store Credit
$8 in credit per $6 entry fee - Scholar's has an excellent selection of games and books, as well as M:TG product.
I'm working with Scholar's Book Store in Bridgewater, MA to revamp their weekly Type 1. Scholar's was the site of one of the first Type 1 events I ever even attended. I've held Mox Events with them, and now I'm looking to get a weekly tournament series up and running again. These events were invaluable in elevating and refining my game. I know many others have greatly improved their skills by playing in the competitive weekly environment Scholar's has provided. I am truly excited to revive this excellent opportunity back to the New England Vintage Community. We are aiming for 3-4 rounds of swiss every week, with the event ending no later than 10:30.
Feel free to contact me to coordinate.

Bringing it back to the old-school. Schlor's vintage 2000. I remember those days. Sick. I'm there every week as I live 2 minutes away. It is a great oppurtunity to play in a competitive vintage event every week and win store credit while having fun. C'mon guys take this oppourtunity to come sharpen your blades. Hope to see you there.

Monday Night Vintage is back!
We had 3 rounds of swiss and everything moved along in a timely fashion. Every other week, a group of students from the Middleboro school system show up, which will move it up to 4 rounds. I suspect we'll be getting around 10 on the non-Middleboro weeks, but if things over the summer pick up, and we're getting 20+ on a weekly basis, then taking the event to the Cole Hall is a possibility. Thanks to everyone who showed. This is really going to elevate everyone's game.

I hope to be attending these over the summer, assuming my work schedule allows it. With unlimited proxies I might even be able to convince some of my non-Vintage playing friends to show up.

This week we had 3/4 of the last TMD Open Top 4 in attendance. We had 7 players who are frequent Top 8'ers, and one who was a solid constructed player who is now looking to get into Vintage. These events are excellent for honing your skills, and I hope people will bring their non-Vintage friends by to get a taste of the format.
MSPaint took 1st(Stefan Elsworth-TOOl) and 2nd(Rich Shay-Atog Lord). Unlimited proxies make is easy to play the newest decks, to either master them, or learn how to beat them. I look forward to continued success at Scholar's Monday Night Vintage.

Yes it is. AFIK the only days Dave closes are, Christmas and Armageddon. I'll definitely post if there is ever going to be a Monday when this doesn't happen.

Jeff and I may make it down from Cambridge. Does anyone have recommendations for route and/or travel time coming from the city during rush hour?

If you end up on 128, it's usually quite slow. I would recommend dialing 511 on your cell before leaving to get the traffic. To give you an idea it typically takes me 75 minutes from Framingham, or 60 minutes from Needham.

These events have been going strong, and out player base has been building. This week we had 8, with several regulars unable to make it. After 3 rounds of swiss we had:
1st Slaverless CS - Eric Dupuis 2nd Intuition Vault/Key - James Tamulevich 3rd Slaverles CS - Jesse Martin 4th UG Fish - Pat Crane
Thank you to everyone who showed up. I actually put in a little work on my list, and I'm very happy with the result. I look forward to working on this new build next week.

Word on the street is some players who haven't been to Scholar's in a long time are going to try and make the trip down this week With attendance consistently hitting 15+, a couple more people could mean we hit the 17 needed to get points for the VTR. We're going to begin trying to start at 7 pm. We've been very laid back with the start time, but once you start getting 17+ people every week, a late start will become a deterrent to people who have tight schedules. If everyone could do their best to be on time, I would appreciate it. Also, if you're going to be late please contact Dave or myself. I'm looking forward to getting some Vintage in!

@The Butcher
I just found out that my roommate will be able to make this event and has a car, so I don't need the ride tonight. Thanks for the response though, I appreciate it. For the record, I'm John Longo, and my roommate is Clark Van Vliet. I'm pretty sure you know both of us. See you tonight.

It's looking very likely that we'll hit 17+. Hopefully all the regulars show up, and we can qualify for Vintage Ranking System Points for the first time! If you've ever considered attending Scholar's, this is definitely the week to attend.

We exceeded the 17+ this past week! A few people have contacted me about next week too, so there's a very good chance that this 17+ could become a frequent occurrence. Since we've been getting bigger and bigger tournaments, we're going to really try and start right at 7:00 from now on. We don't want to start losing people due to a late start coupled with the extra round of swiss, so please make the effort to get to Scholar's before 7:00. If you're going to be late, please call either myself or Dave, and we'll handle it the best we can. Thank you to everyone who made this happen!

After reading the ongoing Scholars results, I see no Top 8/4. Are prizes based on standing after X rounds of swiss?
I'm debating making the 2 hour trek there with Jeff. What time do you usually get out? I can only assume 7pm start with 5 rounds is near midnight.

Prizes are based solely on swiss standings, as it fits what our group needs perfectly. If you come out to play Vintage, straight swiss eliminates all the scenarios where you could end up with no meaningful competition. There's no incentive to ID, and there's no Top that leaves all but 8 with 3 hours and nothing to play for. Every round counts, and everyone is able to play every round. We got out at like 11:30 last week, with some people showing up late. My goal is to get things to run consistently enough that we're looking at 11-11:30 every week. Hope you guys make it down some time - it's a perfect warm ups for the TMD Open!

We're having a special Monday Night Vintage party on May 4th. Marius van Zundert, who most of you know as Marske, is going to be in the states on vacation next week. He planned his vacation, in part, around being able to attend on Monday night! Let's give him a warm welcome, with a good turn out and a memorable display of community. There will be free snacks and drinks - please contact me if you're interested in making something/pitching in. If you've been waiting for a reason to finally make it to one of these events, this is the one to make!

Thanks Chris, I was promoting my Mox Tournament, which is the 2nd, at the same time, so I mixed up the dates. It's definitely Monday May 4th, at Scholar's in Bridgewater, MA.

I'm so terribly tempted to show up to one of these things, even though I don't own any cards any more and haven't played Vintage in a couple years now. The full proxy format makes it so very tempting though. Maybe I'll make it down on the 11th, we'll see.
