What's up guys? After a lot of deliberation as well as polling players at the recent Pittsburgh Mox Tournament, I've decided to host my first Vintage tournament. First Prize will be an Unlimited Mox Sapphire it is GUARANTEED regardless of attendance! (I was going to require a minimum of 20 players to cover the prize and the venue, but I think we can manage that, right?) Date: Sunday, October 26th Hampton Inn (Conference Room) 200 Morris Crossing Newcomerstown, OH 43832 (740) 498-9800 Registration will begin at 11:00 a.m. Play will begin at 12:00 a.m. The proxy limit is 75. (No proxying Battle Of Wits. So there.) Entry Fee: $20 Pictures of the Mox can be seen here: http://magictothenthdegree.blogspot.com/Also, if any other card dealers want to set up, please PM me. I will likely also be buying and selling at this event.

Just stopped by to update the prize:
We've secured an Unlimited Mox Sapphire courtesy of Nat Moes. Thanks for the help, Nat!
If you're planning to attend, feel free to PM me. It would be nice to have a rough idea on attendance ahead of time!
Later, Dave

I'll be there, regardless of start time. There should be a large group from Cleveland attending this thing.

If I get enough requests to push it forward, I'll consider it. Being a Sunday, people have to get some rest for work the next day, so I figured the sooner we start, the sooner we can finish.

I like those pictures because in the third one I have a gigundus piece of lint stuck to my finger. Enjoy!
Despite the lint (or maybe because of it) it's a really good looking Mox. Everyone should come out and try to win it, because it will be awesome.

Just wanted to bump this to make sure it doesn't get buried. I'm dropping my contract off tomorrow, so all of the info posted should be correct.
If anyone wants to meet for breakfast beforehand, we have a group currently planning to meet here:
April's Country Kitch'N 640 Heller Dr Newcomerstown, OH 43832 (740) 498-4242
Very good food, especially breakfast. Plus, they have a burger more than double the size of a Thurmanator. I never tackle that thing without help.

The plans are still being worked out, but I think a bunch of Cleveland folks will be at April's Country Kitch'N around 10:30am for those that want to hang out before the tournament.

Wait wait wait...
You're telling me there's a burger DOUBLE the size of a Thurmanator...
I want to hit this tourney just so I can see one of those babies get punched. How exactly does one sandwich punch a burger of that size? double-fisted?

It's called the Trojan Burger. It's completely absurd. The idea of eating it as a normal burger is not an option. I haven't had one in quite awhile, but the management hasn't changed, so I see no reason it wouldn't still be available.

75 proxies is ridiculous. Have you ever played against a deck that's 100% proxies? No matter how good the proxies are, it is NOT fun. It leads to tons of confused game states. Allowing that many proxies is definitely a mistake.

I don't honestly expect anyone to have the full 75 proxies. I just wanted this to be a fun gathering (Kind of a belated birthday gift to myself) that just happens to be wrapped around a Mox tournament, and I don't want anyone to skip this because they can't build a viable deck. I've been to lots of the infinite proxy Meandeck Opens that went off without a hitch, so I really don't foresee any major problems in that regard.
I have played both with and against a full deck of proxies though. My old team had a pretty skimpy inventory, so we proxied up enough decks to test every major archetype at the time (Mirrors as well). It definitely was insane, but it also forced us to take quality notes and pay more attention in general, which I'm convinced raised our overall play level.
Come out and have some fun!

Somebody cool better go home with the Sapphire. I don't want my old Mox getting into the hands of some Chotchy von Toolbag or Supertool McDouche.
Good luck everybody! My prediction says that Justin Dewey is due to take this one down. Who's gonna stop him?

There you have it folks; The 2008 Vintage World Champion is gonna be in the house!!! Granted, he'll likely be too busy hitting on chicks in the lobby to talk to you, but who knows? What about Smmenen? Stephen, I made this on a Sunday for a reason. Show up! Doug? Lyle? All the other crazy cool folks I've bonded with on the Vintage circuit?
Let's make this a blast!
Later, Dave

I just wanted to mention that I'll probably be doing some 8-man side events, so bring some non-Vintage cards!
Some side event concepts that might happen: (Feel free to sound off about what you prefer!)
$10/player Standard - for a playset of Cryptic Commands
$10/player Standard - Mythic Rare Draft (Draft pool includes one of each Mythic Rare, everyone gets one pick, based on standings.)
$15/player Triple Shards Draft - 1st: 8 booster packs, 2nd: 4 booster packs
There will also be a random door prize drawn each round, and a prize for best unpowered deck. (If applicable)
I want this thing to be amazing, and to do more of them in the future. The best way for you to help me in that regard is to show up and bring some friends. Let's do this thing!

So this is just over 300 miles from my place. If I follow the speed limit, that means it is 5 hours each way. That is a little far methinks.

The drive will be over 5 hours for me also. I'm trying to schedule the trip anyway. Although the tourney being on a sunday creates some scheduling difficulties. I'm a burger man and that Trojan Burger is calling my name. I hope to be there, this event sounds bad ass!

We're now just one week away from this. The entry fee is as competitive as I can make it for a Mox tournament and there will be some sweet side events, so come out and help make this a blast!
