I just realized that Word of Command would be fun with this card.  I'll choose your only spell for the turn!   Surprised

This seems like it would be a good addition to a dawn of the dead type deck. Since the deck plays bazaar and zombiefest, there are a lot of things that you could do with one spell per turn. I just can't figure out if it should be bgw or 5 color, because cursecatcher, mogg fanatic, and hide/seek are all really good.
Shhh!!!!!!

That thing has an enormous backside.  In the past, X/1 problem creatures gave us plenty of options for removal.  Darkblast, Lava Dart, Flame Jab, Triskelion etc were card could destroy an entire deck based on 1 toughness creatures.  This is a very surprising card.  I look forward to seeing it's role in Vintage.

Its a 2/2, just sayin'

Pretty sure that's what he's saying. Backside = toughness. The fact that it has 2 toughness makes it better (though still killable) against all the answers mentioned.

Also, Vectis Silencers is a 2/2 Mesmeric Fiend for  {W} {B} .

Not actually true, He can not be killed dirrectly with Darkblast, Flame Jab, or Lava Dart because he prevents it from being cast twice in one turn.

Oh wow, I didn't even catch that. When I was typing that up I thought "Man, you can actually play all these things twice in one turn if you really need to," but that slipped right by me. That's pretty cool.

This guy is straight up awesome--it is about time that white got a card that is Vintage quality.  The best thing about this creature is that all of the cards that Yawgmoth's Will decks use to answer a problematic artifact can be easily countered by a blue deck playing this guy.  If they play Hurkyl's Recall while you have him in play, you can just Force of Will it and they can't Force back.

Good answers to this guy would include:  Ancient Grudge, Pyrite Spellbomb, Triskellion, etc.

Never thought hat Alara would have so many vintage playable cards, but we will have to wait and see once Alara comes out...

I can see the possibility of this card in fish, since fish basically just attacks and use threats such as Meddling mage, Tarmogoyf, Jotun Grunt and the likes, fish will hardly do anything but wait till your opponent casts... Now that it has a slightly big toughness this card will surely see play, but we will have to wait and see...

It seems that some of the other split second cards will start to see play now...

Tidehollow Sculler   {W} {B}

Artifact Creature - Zombie
When Tidehollow Sculler comes into play, target opponent reveals his or her hand and you choose a nonland card from it. Remove that card from the game.
When Tidehollow Sculler leaves play, return the removed card to its owner's hand.
2/2

I believe this is the card you are refering to.

The best part about the Canonist to me isn't even that it's a man (although it's very exciting for Bomberman) so much as that it's a Rule of Law effect for 2 mana.  Previously those effects were unplayable since on the draw you might not get 2 turns.
