Vintage is undergoing a grass-roots resurgence thanks in part to the excellent local organizing efforts of people like ELD, Gunslinga, and RitNecroWin.   I am no great tournament organizer, but thanks to the hard work of others I've gotten a ton of requests to hold another tournament in the heart of Ohio, the great midwest swing state (birthplace of Presidents and aviation!).

It's time to bring another Meandeck Open to Columbus, Ohio for some fun Fall action.

With the radical changes in the format this is a perfect opportunity to try something new.   Not only has the DCI unrestricted five cards, but Shards of Alara is about to shake up the whole format.   Be a part of the action and come and compete with the best that Vintage has to offer, including the 2007 and 2008 Vintage Champions.

WHEN: Sunday, October 19, 2008
Doors open at 12 Noon.  Registration opens at 12:30.   Tournament begins at 1PM sharp.

WHERE:
The Soldiery
4256 N. High St.
Columbus, Ohio 43214

WHAT: Vintage tournament.  Swiss with cut to top 8.  Unlimited Proxies are permitted.

HOW MUCH: Entry is $15

PRIZES!@*!:

A Cash payout  based on attendance.  Most of the entry fee will be put into the prize pool.

Right now, I am consulting with teammates about additional cool prizes, including potential door prizes, perhaps with meandeck themes.    I will update this thread with that information.   If you have suggestions or requests, PM me with that information and we'll see what we can do.

Hope to see you there!

You guys should give out prizes signed by the 'Vintage Masters' who have won Vintage Championships with certain cards. For example, a Foil Gush signed by Steven Q. Menendian, or a Foil Tinker signed by Paul 'Sculptini' Mastriano. Those would be cool. Also, modified or altered cards like Sundering Titan by the great Doug Linn. I can't think of any prizes more 'Meandeck' then the cards you guys use in tournaments. Maybe Brainstorm signed by the whole team, because it just makes for so many insane plays!!1!1!

Those are great ideas and exactly what I was looking for.   We'll see if we can do door prizes exactly along those lines.   Thanks for the suggestion!

I imagine that there'll be a carload of Cleveland folks for this one.

Jaco, are you going to be able to make it to this one?

Not unless I'm carpooling with some Wisconsin and/or Chicago cats again. I can't afford to make the drive out there by myself, but if Jimmy "I really only have 500,000 cats" McCarthy, Mike "I'm going to smash something" Solymossy, James "I'm not a playa I just crushalot" King, Ben "I don't play I just run tournaments now" Carp or anyone else wants to come with and make a weekend out of it, I've got that weekend open.

Smmenen could sign a Time Vault since he single handedly rescued it from oblivion.

I think I'll do some modded cards for anyone who knocks out YangTime.*

AARGGH my car caught on fire and burned to a husk (not with me in it), and the one weekend I can get a ride home (6 hours) to borrow my brother's... is this particular weekend.  Unbelievable.

This is actually on my birthday. I'm pretty sure you guys should get a fund together and fly me out to this, but I can understand if you don't. Playing for second is no fun.  Smile

Yeah, take it from Joe. He knows all about how unfun it is to play for 2nd after the countless tournaments hes played with me.

I had fun the last time you guys did this, so I plan on attending again.  It looks like me and my friend (we were the 2 from indianapolis... I played fish and he played keeper) will be showing up, and possible another friend or two.

So... unconfirmed as of this time, but the rumors are that our current world champion, Mr. Type Four, will be putting up four signed Dark Rituals as door prize, that i will be putting up a signed foil Gush and a Dream Halls, and that Doug Linn will be putting up a modified Sundering Titan!!!!

I'm still hoping to go, but I can't seem to find anyone else to go with me.  I could really use another person to split gas with me.  Are any of you from the Indianapolis area?

Coincidentally, I'll be in Columbus, OH for a HUGE fighting video game tournament.  I'll be sure to stop by on Sunday and check it out.  Is this an actual Magic store that sells singles or just a general hobby shop that is allowing for us to use space?

It is a general game store and the MTG single prices are a bit on the pricey side. The players are top notch though. Seriously!

Stephen "Q" Menendian- He is so powerful that he got Time Vault fixed.
Paul "sculptini" Mastriano- People usually cast mana drain on turn 2. This guy picks up ladies by turn 1.
Snoop Trogg- This guy owns 51% of all stock in Mishra's Workshop.
Yangtime- Kid is Asian..... You've already lost.

THIS JUST IN!

Come one, come all. For Lyle H is taking a 1 week break from his southbound thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail and will be making a much needed appearance at this tournament.

And here is the pathetic half. I dont have any money because of the previously mentioned hike. I will be accepting donations for tourney entry.

Please?
