Mr. Nice Guy Games
November 22nd

41 Players
6 Rounds of Swiss; Cut to Top 8

Mr. Nice Guy Games success continues on! We had a wonderful turnout and a diverse Metagame. We had players travel from New York, Ohio and even Chicago!
The prize support was a Mox Jet for first, English Imperial Seal for second place, Grim Tutor for third and fourth and foil promo Vampiric Tutors for fifth through eighth. In addition, first place was awarded an awesome Vintage Champion cookie cake made by the renowned Oakmont Bakery. Ninth place recieved a special tough break cookie. Also, there was a foreign, black bordered Demonic Tutor given away as a door prize.
As if the prizes weren't enough, the store next door to Mr. Nice Guy is Smoke N' Gun, a really awesome coffee shop, dontaed free drink coupons that were randomly given away! In fact, Smoke N' Guns actually has a drink named the Mr. Nice Guy Latte; it is AMAZING!

The  Prizes

The Coveted Cookie Cakes

Not only did we have awesome prizes, we had Christopher Moeller in attendance, a Magic the Gathering artist! Mr. Moeller signed cards, sold awesome sketched artist proofs and brought original artwork, including the gorgeous piece Sower of Temptation! One of the days highlights included Mr. Moeller fielding questions about his work and what it's like to be an artist for Wizards of the Coast. A special thank you to Christopher Moeller!

Good Report.  I like the player pics.  It's always nice to see faces with the names.

Paul Mastriano created this iteration of Meandeck Tezz. He was having some troubles with aggro and quickly thought of the Oath plan. The rest of our team has been working very hard to develop and optimize the build. In fact, Doug Linn did very well at the last Meandeck Open, placing 2nd with the deck (Very different S/B)
Hopefully, Paul can provide some more insight into his creation here; as well as the other teammates that did so well with it... (Bomholt, Francis, Lyle, Willie)

-I'm hoping that these events are catching the attention of the crew towards Wisconsin. We are already discussing the details of the next event in the spring and hope to draw out even bigger numbers in the future. Just in passing, we were batting around ideas for future prize support and one mentioned theme was Time... Time Walk, Time Twister, 2x Time Vault!- Would this get any ICBMer's out this way?
How does a 4 Moxen event sound?

Thanks to everyone for making these as Awesome as they are...

Also, for those that care.. after all the smack talking... Twaun dreamcrushed me in some hard fought epic games.... My cards are still stained with tears.

The Oath sideboard was pretty good.  Aggro is a real headache so it helps a lot that Emperial Archangels are so hard to kill.  Switching to Oath is also just a good strategy sometimes to help dodge hate people put in from the sideboard.  I didnt have anything in there for combo because i didnt expect to face it, so if you play this deck make sure to get something in there for that match-up if it's prevalent in your metagame.

Otherwise I'd say Voltaic Key is essential, TFK is a great draw engine and Transmute Artifact is decent in a number of scenarios.

This tournament was awesome.  I'll beat you at the next one, Twan!!

Yeah, sorry to let the Oath out of the board so to speak. With 3/8 in, I felt like it would be way to difficult to hide it anymore.
-Hope I didn't step on any toes posting the boards.

-I should note, Codi Vinci should get the mad science award. I don't have a decklist, but watching him play, I saw Hermit Druids and Cognivores.... He def. had some crazy home brew!

Yes, it is in insane deck, and it is a crazy transform sb so I will let him discuss it.

Nice top 8!  Smile

Some mistakes in the lists:

Mike's list misses one maindeck card.
Paul's list misses 2 maindeck cards and has one excess sideboard card.

J/K- I'll do my best to get this fixed in the next few days.

Just a question to meandeck, what were the main cards you ended up siding out to side in the oath cards? And did that not totally reduce your sideboard options against decks with hardly any creatures?

I believe I was cutting the two Tezz, the early draw spells, and the crypt/needle. I never boarded out the key/vault combo.

If they don't play a lot of creatures that just means I have less things to worry about so I can concentrate on winning the game. If they are opting to play less creatures and more spells I don't feel as threatend because eventually they are going to run out of gas and not have dealt 20 damage yet. If they play more creatures than Oath is just that much better so whatever.
