Thanks for the update/meta report.

Junior would have made it but I withheld my Magic cards from him until he gets X cards back to me.  That'll learn him.
I would have made it but didn't hear about it until two days prior.  Feel free to drop me a PM if you suspect I may not be aware of a local T1 tourney.

I would have loved to stomp on some Ad Nauseum Kobolds!  At least now I have a use for my Koblolds! Smile

Webster: I see your running 13lands now, instead of 12 like you did before.
Would like to know your thoughts about it, also did this improve your play?

I always wanted to fit in a 13th land. I hadn't gotten around to playing with versions that included it. Twelve lands doesn't feel quite right.

Here's the list for the 3rd/4th place Kobold Nauseum deck.  James doesn't really follow Type 1, and he came up with the list himself.  It's a little... loose.  But it's a powerful idea.  I can't really explain the mana base, except to say that Eric and I did manage to make him cut his green cards at the last minute.  But not the Bayous.

James Cabot
Kobolds

5 Moxen
1 Lotus
1 Petal
4 Dark Ritual
4 Pact of Negation
4 Crimson Kobolds
4 Kobolds of Kher Keep
1 Crookshank Kobolds
3 Skullclamp
3 Culling the Weak
3 Ad Nauseum
1 Brainstorm
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Mystical Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Imperial Seal
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Mana Crypt
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Mana Vault
1 Sol Ring
2 Chrome Mox
4 Forbidden Orchard
4 City of Brass
3 Bayou
1 Underground Sea
2 Tendrils of Agony

Sideboard:
4 Cabal Therapy
2 Pithing Needle
1 Hurkyl's Recall
1 Echoing Truth
2 Chain of Vapor
2 Tormod's Crypt
2 Angel's Grace
1 Brain Freeze

A summary of James's tournament games (approximate):
  Turn 1 wins: 4
  Turn 2 wins: 2
  Later wins: 2
  Losses to LSV: 3
  Other losses: 1

More reports need a "Losses to LSV" total at the end.

Forgot to mention this Brett:
Have opponent mull to 6: D.I.
Have opponent mull to 5: D.I. + 1

Okay, being serious, his opponent in round 1 mulled to 6 and 5, same with round 2 against LSV, 1 of the 2 games LSV lost = mull to 4.  I played a total of 4 games against him and never kept a 7.  Went to 5 once.

In top 8 against me, game 1 I obviously can't keep a 7 so mulled to 6.  It was a weak hand, so w/e.  But I mulled to FoW, Drain x2, Mystical Tutor, Island, and Top.  Played Island, Top go, and didn't hit my second land drop.  He went for it t2 casting Ad. Neaus. so I FoW, he Pacts, I Mystical for FoW, using top, FoW, he Pacts me the second time.  Talk about Flash + 2 Counter up.

Game 2..... interesting choices in keeping: culling the weak, bayou, U. Pact x2, Bayou, Mystical Tutor, and Kobold.  After losing the Mystical Tutor to Thoughtseize, all he needed was like 5 draw phase to kill with opponent unable to cough up anything from his deck.  It was exactly like your rd. 5 loss in g3, if not worse.

Okay, playing Tez against Combo isn't exactly that exciting.  But yeah... I can't catch a break against him that day.

I pretty much ran G.I.'s list in the open forum and loved it.  I made a couple changes, mostly upping Goyf count to 4 and +1 MASSACRE due to the number of Fishes around the area (Go UW Fish).  I regret cutting Duresses from my SB because I was anticipating more Dredge; I wouldn't cut the 3x Duress from my SB anymore if I am playing around here.  I cut Library... which is... like punting :-/

Could you please clarify what LSV is?

As a math and physics major that has received dean's honors, i can tell you that seven minus five is one for very large values of five. Wink

The tezzeret list I played was fun enough, and here is a fairly brief report>

Rd 1 vs BA Peterson

Brent is playing Shops, which he seems to recently have taken a liking to.

Game 1
I keep Library, Fetchland, Drain, Drain, some other cards (no moxes or FoW) on the play. I figure if he wastes Library then we both did nothing turn one most likely, and if he doesn't I should draw enough lands to eventually get drain up. I also am not playing Storm, so a random Sphere really isn't that big a deal. He just has land mox Thorn, and then t2 nothing relevant. I am able to have up drain before anything happens, and after Thirsting a few times I EE his stuff and play Tezzeret for the win.

Game 2
I randomly beat him down w Trinket Mage plus his Mana Crypt, as the one threat he drew got FoWed.

1-0

Round 2 v James Cabot

Kobold Nauseam or whatever its called.

Game 1
I mulligan to 5, but have t1 Ancestral and t2 double counter to stop his Nauseam plus Pact, so he dies to Pact.

Game 2
I mulligan to 6, and he goes off turn 2 with Pact backup and I lose.

Game 3
I mulligan to 4, and he wins on turn 1.

As much as I mulliganed these games, I think the Kobold deck is pretty good. It seems consistently fast, and against decks without Duresses (or at least very many Duresses) Pact of Negation really trumps Drains/FoW.

1-1

Round 3 v Phil Yam

UB Faeries (complete w Bitterblossom)

Game 1
I keep a hand with alot of mana, and his turn 1 Dark Confidant pulls him pretty far ahead. I have some good draw steps, and some confusion as to how Spellstutter Sprite works (you cannot have Sprite come into play and THEN activate Mutavault, since its ability won't trigger unless you have enough Faeries to counter a spell on the stack currently), and I am able to string Thirst into Timewalk into Tezzeret w. Time Vault already in play.

Game 2
I have a broken hand with t1 Drain into t2 Fof + walk + will and win.

2-1

Round 4 vs Matt Kurtin

Matt is playing my TPS deck, and by my I mean MY physical cards. He is also 1-2 with pretty bad tiebreaks, and thus out of contention. Mise.

3-1

Round 5
ID

Top 8 vs UW Fish

Game 1
My opening hand is pretty nice...Lotus, Sapphire, Mana Crypt, Tinker, Drain, Thirst, Trinket Mage. I tinker out turn 1 DSC and then FoW his Swords to plowshares (he waits until I attack to swords, and I drew Fow on my turn) This proves to be enough, and we move on to g2.

Game 2
This game goes pretty long, and I am cut off black spells since he wastes both my Underground Seas and has Null Rod to stop Jet and Lotus. Eventually, I activate Tezzeret's ultimate and drain his stifle, and kill him with four 5/5 pieces of useless jewlery.

Top 4 v James Cabot

Game 1
I mulligan to 6, but end up playing t1 Time Walk plus Tezzeret (although I have to untap artifacts w Tez), threatening a kill after he only gets one turn. He isn't able to win on turn 1, so I go infinite.

Game 2
He mulligans (I think), and is slowed down by my Sphere of Resistance since he only has one land. This of course is after I misdirected his tutor'ed for Ancestral, so yea, the game was looking good. He never gets out from under the Sphere, and I eventually assemble Key plus Time Vault.

Finals
Split w Mike Klemic

Upon reading this, I laughed for 3.5 solid minutes remembering your FOR THE LOTUS game vs Ichorid a few months ago.
Insert Benny Hill music:

Smile I requested day of for 13th. Hopefully it comes through.

If Junior produces my 4xForce of Will, he has a deck to use, otherwise its either Crushing Chamber (fear it!) or KoboldNausium.
