61 players is pretty awesome.  Could you give any insight into what is making these tournaments a success for you guys?

Man I hope those prizes for 3-8 were great because a Pearl and a mana drain seems light for a 61 person tourney.

* I believe 1 of the reassons is, that in The Netherlands aren't that many tournaments.
The Last tournament was in February.

* The seccond part is PR and communication with all the players.
We post our announcements on all the known forums, even on Solomoxen (Fr), Die Zusammenkunft (Ger), Morphling and Germagic (Ger).
We also try to announce the event at least 6 weeks before it takes place.

* The third is our on Dutch Vintage Forum www.themanacrypt.nl.
This provides a place for all the Dutch vinatge players to discus decks and tactics in there own lanquage.

*The Fourth is a garanteed price support.
We had once 25 players and still gave a Mox and a Drain. This is what players will remember

* Fith is that there is always a card dealer in th room, and I believe the fact we had the Bye's to give to the Top 2 for BOM 3 was a factor two.
Stimulating new Players is also very important, each tournament I meet new players, who are playing for the first time in a tournament.
Talk to them and ask if you can help them with something. This helps to give them the feeling they are welcome.

Breda is also a City in the South of The Netherlands, with very good public transport and Highways nearby.
From Belgium a doozen players come and from France a few Players come regulary.

About the prices. I believe we gave almost, if not as much in cards vallue as the income of the Tournament and still had to pay for the Room and staf members. Entry Fee is only 10 Euro, is approx 13,- Dollar, So that is not that high.
But Blue based duals, Foils and some older cards, Boosters and some deckboxen where there for the rest of the Top 8.

Greetz Arjan

First Time that I made top 8 in the Dutch Vintage Tournament and finished fifth place.  Very Happy
I had to pick first prize of the losers 4 and I had the choice between nice cards. I chose the Tolarian Academy plus Prerelease Questing Phelddagrif in Greek and 1 booster Conflux.

61 players is pretty awesome.  Could you give any insight into what is making these tournaments a success for you guys?

Man I hope those prizes for 3-8 were great because a Pearl and a mana drain seems light for a 61 person tourney.

Although I'm happy I made the top 8 and won a nice price, I think the big difference between the first 4 prices and the last 4 prices is too big.
Especially the prices from place 16 to 8 were a lot off boosters Conflux, and the difference between them and the 8-5 place off the top 8 were too small.
OK I understand that the prices are quaranteed but sometimes you lose money and sometimes you make money. But with 61 contestants, you could have put more boosters conflux to the Top 8
I hope you will rearrange the prices the next time.

Except the prizemix, you made a wonderful tournament, keep going with the very good work. And I will keep coming from Arnhem to play in Breda, The Dutch Vintage Capital!!!
I look forward to see the photo and video coverage Wink

I just want to comment on this because for this event Arjan (Zieby) didn't have anything to do with the organizing and prize support because he played. but I did. (I also judged) We paid for the room, and gave a little something to the staff for that day, and I can honestly guarantee that the rest went back into the prize pool. The prizes where made by Rudy (the dealer on site) and myself, we determined the "cost" of each pile and what value we gave away to be fairly equal along with 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 and so on. Because we wanted to reward the top 16 players with something the boosters got a little bit more wide spread then they would have been if we only rewarded the top 8. I think this is a better way of rewarding the players then just packing the top 8 with more prizes. I hope you understand what we tried to do and not think that we didn't put everything back into the prize pool.

@Suicide_king,
I think Arjan said it all regarding why these events are such a success, basically it's the four things I've already talked about a lot on TMD regarding what makes tournaments successful (see the advanced forum)

Wow, this is a great compliment, and to think vintage was all but dead in the Netherlands when we started doing these events this means a lot to me and I'm honored by the fact that you think Breda  is the Vintage capital of Holland Wink

Coverage will be up tomorrow as things stand now, I'll post an update on TMD obv.

On the manacrypt.nl I red a discussion about the decklist had to be more early online, maybe Iīam stupid but why donīt we digitalize our decklist BEFORE??? Almost everybody has a computer with internet or have a friend who does. When you describe before a tournament you can in Excel or Word put your deck and email it to the organizer.
Do you want to play an other deck or you have some changes, you email before saturday evening at 00:00 your final decklist and thatīs it. No more time wasted at the beginning of the tournament with seatings, always readable decklist en after the tournament, the decklists of the top 8 can be posted at an instant.

Maybe a test pilot at the 8th edition?

I won 4 Tormods Crypt for finishing 8th, so that was kind of disappointing. I mean 5th got a Tolarian Academy so. I faced my only horrible matchup, the other MU should be much better but what can you do.  I hope that it might be possible in the future give 3-4 and 5-8 the same prices as everyone draws in anyway and prices are determined by resistance.. That said great tourney I dont attend tourneys to make money but for fun.

I don't see this work because of last minute changes due to discussion in the car on your way to the tournament/cards you want to buy at the site but cannot find/sideboard decision because of some pre-tournament scouting.

However, handing in a printed decklist (with maybe some last-minute handwritten changes) instead of a handwritten decklist would help I think. For the rest, it's just typing 8 lists, what are we talking about? Chicago's list took me only an hour.

Hi Arjan, thanks for the lists!
Robin's deck misses 5 maindeck cards, probably some Islands and something else...

Thanks for your accuracy

Duncan, I think discussing in the car to the tournament make changes after many play testing a bit funny, plus you can make proxies so thatīs not an problem either

I can imagine people (including myself) changing their lists after playtesting because after some discussing they agree that their expectation of the metagame is different than the one they had in mind when constructing their sideboard. Or change the metagames slots last moment.

Also, not everybody tends to playtest extensively before every tournament. I must admit last sunday's tournament was one of the few exceptions where I did not change my list in the 2 hours before the start.
