As always, let me know if there’s an error somewhere and I’ll look it over.  It is much more likely I messed up typing than actual decklist errors since they did actually check over lists to make sure they were legal.

For anyone interested, I played TPS and went 3-2.  I lost my first round to mulling to 3 and then getting blown out, then lost a tough one against shops which was probably winnable but I’m not sure how, and then beat the Blazing Shoal deck, an Oath deck, and the 5color Shop deck.

Thanks for reading and if you’re anywhere within a couple hours of Chicago, it is definitely worth your time to come out to these events.  Some of us even play real decks too!

Another great tournament from Xtreme Games.  Thanks again, guys.  I went 2-3 with Painter due to a few minor play mistakes on my part.

Woowoo!  Awesome job, Curt!  I'll try and get him to start posting here, now that he's actually interested in vintage now!  Zoo beating Goblins for a Time Walk...what a final round for a very competitive vintage tournament!

I went 3-2 with Ubg Tezzeret, beating Bob Tendrils, Oath and Painter, and losing to Sullivan Solution and Aggro Shop.  The site was awesome (though I understand they're moving to a new and bigger location?), the people were great to play against and hang out with, and the prize support was awesome!  Curt and I (and possibly 1-2 others from Bloomington) will definitely try and make the trek up for future events!

The format is garbage here. 20 person events with Zoo, Goblins, and such. WTF?

At least I played a "Real" Deck this time, albeit poorly played.  I have found a spark for playing with lots of restricted cards Smile

I will have the next tournament for Astro City posted soon.  It was nice getting out to the old XG shop before you guys move.  Good luck with the new place.

Updated first post with decklists and archetypes and stuff.  Also, someone didn't hand in a decklist, so big frowns to them.

Awesome tournament as always, and I for one vote Jimmy post the lists for future events as they were up quickly and who in their right mind prefers banana Drain and VT to Mana Drain and Vampiric Tutor.

I love the Doomsday TPS list.

Still would want to throw in a Beacon of Destruction!!!

And I agree with Owen on the lists, good to see someone type out the correct names.

Wow, that Bomberman list just looks horrible, who in their right mind would play that?  It's not even an optimized list!  I bet they only ran 3 Mana Drains because their 4th one was loaned out...

The tournament was great, was good to see all of the regular goons, James King got to embarrass me by showing me how back the deck I played really was.  But the joke was on you guys!  For somehow I snuck into top 8, just imagine what I could do with a real deck.   Very Happy

On a more serious note, I couldn't figure out what to play, because no deck interests me, and the mass restriction really killed what interest I had in the format.

I find something interesting looking at the top 8 deck lists. Tk Owen soly brian and I were all playing top main board and it was tremendous for me all day I can't say that for the others but I'm sure they would agree.

I don't find it that interesting, Top just goes along with Thirst as its the best (and one of the few) draw engines available.  It definitely shines turn 3 or later, which you will probably only get to if playing a Control mirror.   I've never been a fan of Top, its just become a necessary evil in a format without Ponder/Brainstorm.   Sad

Archetypes:
Rituals – 6.5
Drains – 4.5
Null Rods – 4
Shops – 3
Bazaars – 1
Other – 6
Missing Deckslists – 1 (frowns)

The Null Rod archetype consists of other archetypes right?  Like there's a Workshop + Null Rod deck and, perhaps, there was a Mana Drain + Null Rod deck?  In any case, it definitely looks like the decks packing Null Rod did really well.

This is one varied tournament.  I'm real happy that only one of the Top 4 decks played blue.  It's neat to see 10 copies of Null Rod in the Top 4, 11 if you count sideboards.

I'm not thrilled at all by this tournament.  Vintage has been about playing the most powerful decks, not extended with Lightning Bolts and Mox Ruby/Emerald.

That Zoo list has Lightning Helix over Lightning Bolt, which must have been key against Goblins!

Jerry:  Only one of the Shop players had Null Rods.  I forgot to list him under that heading, but I probably wouldn't have anyway as it is pretty clearly still a shop deck which just happens to have Null Rod.  Isaac's deck isn't really a Rit deck or a Drain deck but somewhere in between.  Also, only one of the Oath decks had Null Rods main, one of the others had them in the side but that still put him firmly in the "Other" category.

I guess it goes to show that you don't need to play the most powerful deck to win. These results should be somewhat interesting for new players getting into vintage.

Wow, that Bomberman list just looks horrible, who in their right mind would play that?  It's not even an optimized list!  I bet they only ran 3 Mana Drains because their 4th one was loaned out...

I think I just crapped my pants. Fisher, I commend you on your entrance into the online world. I will also purchase you a Strawberry Daiquiri next time I see you.  Wink

I agree with you Yangtime. It looks like people thought about combating the metagame instead of complaining about it.

How is Zoo/Goblins not powerful? Is it just because they don't use Yawg Will and all the P9?

Quite a broad question.

It really depends on a lot on the gamestate and what is being held in hand.
I do not know what TK did but here is a one I would have tried...

2 lands (B & U)

Pile
//Top//
Ancestral Recall
Black Lotus
Dark Ritual
Mind's Desire
Research/Development
//Bottom//

Plays out:
Draw and play Recall, Play Black Lotus sac for UUU and Dark Ritual. UUUBBB floating Storm 3
Play Mind's Disire, Flip R&D, play R&D before the other 3 copies of Desire resolve, getting 2 copies of Tendrils.
First tendrils will have a storm of 5 and the other will have 6.

Other than that there are other piles of 5 if you have a piece in hand or something like Bstorm or Gush.

I have been playing Doomsday for quite sometime and really like this list.

Would like to hear how it went for TK.

Cheers

I'm glad my shop aggro is doing good...the one that's 3rd/4th place is card for card the list I'd posted as my last list...I'm curious if the person who played it has any comments/anything?  Also, how did it play out in your meta

I lost to him in 3, due to a minor mishap.  I could have turn 1ed him if I consulted for Yawgmoth's Will, and didn't remove it or my 3 tendrils in the process.  He had double null rod/double sphere, and had the 2 reb's for my bounce spells too.  Trust me though, I was DYING for a rematch.

I got Bob hooked on that list.  I love how it destroys tezz.  The only problems that I've found are that crucible is sometimes very clunky and uneccesarry.
