The game was over, but he cheated and I lost.
Not proven, all of us have tried playing Sorceries at illegal times, I'll bet. I've a feeling we won a 2HG event by flash Evoking an Aethersnipe in their turn that with hindsight, I couldn't legally do. I've also beaten someone day 2 at a GP with Worldpurge played for 7 (costs 8 usually). Neither play would be considered cheating by the DCI, as the intent wasn't to make the illegal play, it was a case of my misreading/not reading/not knowing the cards. We call that a Game Rule Violation, if it gets caught. Back up and give a warning. On both occasions there, the opponents missed it too, so you're not the only one. Accusing someone of cheating in this way is both unsporting and inflammatory.
On an interesting note, I have been informed that this person was once banned by the DCI for cheating.
That was a while ago. Taking advantage of whiny little kids at a tournament in order to advance, by making illegal EOT plays. So it's a completely different case. Oh well, maybe not...
Anyway, congrats to Igor for taking the little green men that far. I've a feeling the metagames elsewhere are likely to feel the impact of this and Rich Shay's finish.
