Twenty-two people showed up to battle for their right to the unlimited Black Lotus and Mox Jet. Even though the attendance was roughly half of the expected number, the prizes were already locked in. Sadly, it's very questionable whether any further vintage side events like this will be held again due to the lack of attendance. The monetary loss was significant.

LSV,

Your Tezzeret list looks like what most Tezzeret lists aspire to be.  It seems like everything superfluous has been removed.  Seems like that's the variant I should be testing against.

Thanks for the quick report.  That top 8 has some ridiculous star power.

There were a few problems with my list (61 cards being a pretty obvious one), but overall I liked it a fair amount. I will probably throw up a report when I get home, particularly since the tournament was pretty stacked despite being 22 players, since the percentage of good players was quite high. I hadn't played Vintage for months, so this was alot of fun.

LSV,

I am really surprised you did not run Regrowth, especially since you are running Gifts Ungiven. Regarding the attendance, who was running the event? That might be telling.

Steve Port (Legion Events) was running the event, so that can't be the reason. They run all the side events at Pro Tours, and they even changed all the events this event to Top 4 or Top 8 instead of Swiss +1, which was an excellent change. I don't really know why not enough people showed up, since they prizes were good and the event went smoothly. Unfortunate =/

As for Regrowth, I haven't ever played with it before, and after not playing for 4 months I was hesitant to try cards that I had no idea about. That of course didn't stop me from trying the Oath SB plan that GerryT brewed up, but that seemed sweet.

I like Ochoa's list personally.  I mean, mainly because it's almost exactly what I would play, but still =p  Nice job on the finish sir.

That's too bad. I like to see good TOs get the support they deserve. Was this event advertised properly? I wonder what went wrong, because Vintage players would usually be all over an event of this nature.

Fair enough. It seems to be a natural fit, but often things that seem perfect in theory don't necessarily translate in practice. I will be playing a deck like this in the future, so I will try the Regrowth out and post my results.

Must be nice.  Playing Web in the finals once again.

I am betting Web was the one typing the lists, not you.

@ TK and Owen: The tezz list you guys ran looks a lot like what I ran in Honolulu. How was it for you guys? How were the impulses? Was the lack of a card advantage engine in exchange for a stronger card filtering engine good for you guys? I'm interested in hearing your thoughts.

P.S. Owen nice sb Razz

I'd be especially interested in an in-depth perspective on how the Tez vs. Fish matchups played out in the t4.  We're still trying to get our heads around the new matchup dynamic over here.

I'm disturbed to see that someone has quite obviously hacked Stefan's account.  His post includes more than one full sentence and it has an actual bearing on the format of Vintage.

Impluses seem good, even though they remind me of Keeper circa 2003.  Why not go one step further and put Cunning Wish main with Mystical, Gush, Misdirection, and removal in the side?

I'd be especially interested in an in-depth perspective on how the Tez vs. Fish matchups played out in the t4.  We're still trying to get our heads around the new matchup dynamic over here.

I'm disturbed to see that someone has quite obviously hacked Stefan's account.  His post includes more than one full sentence and it has an actual bearing on the format of Vintage.

I'll post a good post when I feel I have something to extract other than lolz obv

Thank god Stefan beat that hacker.

I know right. I wouldn't want people to think less of me or anything. I have a reputation to uphold!

Fish can't swim in vintage.  They just sink.

Interesting to see the high amount of Sowers and Darksteel Collossus (again) in the Tez control lists and the absence of Library of Alexandria. Meta choice or something of a new trend?

Impluses seem good, even though they remind me of Keeper circa 2003.  Why not go one step further and put Cunning Wish main with Mystical, Gush, Misdirection, and removal in the side?

Are you trolling? Cause I'm pretty sure that's my gig.

I'm genuinely half-serious about this.  Cunning Wish demands no more of a "WTF?!?!" reaction than Impulses do

 ..seriously, Impulse??  WTF?!?!?!?!?!?!?!??!?!?!
