Heya,

Another fairly interestedint card was spoiled on MTGS today: http://www.planetmtg.de/gfx/artikel/1bcdedea00e2f911a2fcb590107ba443_5.jpg

It's CC is high, but in a shop deck with Crucible, it would put your life total out of reach by any aggro deck.  Would you play this card?  Even in a sideboard maybe?

EDIT: LOL, maybe I should include the translation:

Eternity Preserver  {6}
Artifact
Eternity Preserver enters the battlefield with X charge counters on it, where X is your life total.
Landfall - Whenever a land enters the battlefield under your control, you may have your life total become equal to the number of charge counters on Eternity Preserver.

Peace,

-Troy

Euh... could you please excuse my ignorance and translate the card ? I don't read german, and I guess i'm not alone in this situation.

Doubtful, it feels like a win-more card. If you have crucible out and youre doing a Wasteland or Stripmine recursion, youre likely already on the way to victory.

Against Vault, doesnt do anything after they assemble the combo
Against GW beat, Teeg shuts its down from being cast, Pridemage will get rid of it
Against another Stax deck, who ever gets the smokestack out first or Welder to switch it out
Against Ichord, sideboard hate is far more effective
Against TPS, it looks to 1 shot you

Could be a nice sideboard card against aggro in shop decks, but 6 is hard to get.  So you’ll probably need to cheat it into play via Bazaar/Welder or Tinker, or get a Metalworker activation.
Also note that it can also force storm combo to find a bounce spell if you have a fetchland online.
Might be a decent tinker target for control deck in some matchups.
Could also find a place in a channel/fastbond/exploration shell, but I guess Lich Mirror is just better here.

It does buy some time, but it doesn't win the game. And it doesn't solve the problem you were facing when playing it.

Interesting card, but a bit overcosted to enter the vintage card pool I think, unless there's a silly combo I missed, that would create a new archetype.

I think is a good maindeck choice that will never see play in game 2 and 3.

that's because being immortal is good but you can cast that card and preserve it only before sideboard.

the other big weakness is that it works only for big amount of life points.

so it's a card good to be burned

My goal is to lock my opponent out of the game.  This doesn't accomplish anything on its own and if you're looking for board cards against aggro you have better options than a 6 mana artifact.

I thought it might be win more.  I was thinking it would allow shop decks to run Dark Confidant.  It's been hard in the past b/c the avg CMC of a shop deck is aweful high.   I'm not sure if that's worth it or not, but it is what I thought when I saw it.  Or maybe it might fit in a Slaver deck.

to be fair, shop decks tend to run more mana then non shop deck, .: their avg CMC is lower then most decks. However, they do have a higher individual CMC cards that can randomly blow you out of the water with DC

I was thinking about this card along side Darksteel Reactor and some sort of way to transfer the charge counters. Is there a card that does that? I do recall there being a card that can move counters from permanents. Even so, this probably still won't be good enough but atleast its a win condition

The ones I had in mind were Fate Transfer and Spike Cannibal but those obviously don't work

How is Platinum Ange not way better than this? The one mana makes the difference?

There was an instant artifact destruction card (red) that put charge counters onto another artifact.  I'll try and look it up.

Troy, one of the best shop lists I have seen in a while is the B/R list that Jerry Yang was running for a while that happened to be playing Dark Confidants. The list is very good and out of the few games I played with it, I could not say that I would play this card at all.  It does seem like a really sick type2 card for control decks, but I do not see it as being all that good in type 1.

Yeah, I've been doing some playtesting with it- not just in shop decks.  It has some great synergy with Channel, Bargain, Book of Raz, Doomsday, Fastbond + Crucible + Fetch, and you wouldn't think it, but it works with Mirror Universe.  But, just because a card has synergy with something doesn't mean it's good enough to play.  Too bad, I love the effect.

Peace,

-Troy
