I noticed recently that one of Vroman's B/R builds ran several copies of Jester's Cap in the board.  Are other Stax players finding this to be an effective board option against Oath?

This card is house against almost any deck the only matchup i find myself not bringing it in against is Fish. Combo ripping tendrils seems ok, Stax ripping out your opponets welders seems ok, tez rip out vault tez and inkwell beat me with bobs i dare u, Oath ripping the creatures seems fine to me and 2ndary win condition.

anyway you get the point on that one its more of what version of stax you run having cap as a board card and what your weaker against.

I personally like it and Ensnaring Bridge both in board because with the brokeness of Bazaar and using crop rotation to get said Bazaar it really just bangs your hand down and wins.

I think it may have a place in there somewhere, but I think boarding Null Rod is not a good idea

to be honest, i have found the biggest impact vs fish has been lodestone golem.  Its been the fatty i have always wanted for stax. Besides just having the 5/3 bottom, it has an immediate impact when it hits. Though it still gets eaten by predators and pridemages.  But on the up side, it can look a tarmogoyf in the face.

As for lavamancer, while he does force the noble fish user to not sit on pridemages he still cant stop a predator from eating a permanent a turn. The usual medicine for noble fish, aside from getting a chalice resolved at 2, is boarding in 4 magus of the moon. Razormanes, if you can get one going can put a serious hurt on noble fish.

To be honest, i think that if anything were to give gorilla shaman the boot (which i certainly think there are things) it would not be lavamancers.

During the Meandeck Open’s pre registration period I had three decks in my arsenal to choose from, GWS Oath, Dredge, and B/R Workshop Aggro. I thought about it and decided to bring this to the table.

BR Workshop Aggro-

Artifacts-
1 Black Lotus
4 Chalice of the Void
2 Crucible of Worlds
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mox Emerald
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Pearl
1 Mox Ruby
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Sensei’s Divining Top
1 Sol Ring
4 Thorn of Amethyst
4 Tangle Wire

Dudes-
4 Dark Confidant
4 Goblin Welder
2 Gorilla Shaman
1 Karn, Silver Golem
4 Lodestone Golem
1 Triskelion

Lands-
4 Badlands
1 Barbarian Ring
4 Bazaar of Baghdad
1 Bloodstained Mire
1 Cabal Pit
4 Mishra's Workshop
1 Strip Mine
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
4 Wasteland

Side Board-

2 Duplicant
2 Extirpate
3 Greater Gargadon
2 Red Elemental Blast
2 Tormod’s Crypt
4 Yixlid Jailer

By running Gorilla Shaman and Karn instead of Null Rod I tuned the deck to have some game against the MUD decks currently polluting the meta. I also decided to run Crucible of Worlds over Sword of Fire and Ice in anticipation for them as well.

I loaded up the board with Graveyard hate for Ichorid and GG + Dupe for Oath. I was ready to do battle.

I didn’t take notes since 12 people meant a four round tourney then cut to top four.

Rd 1
I was paired up against Yangtime playing Vintage Highlander. He was only able to resolve Sensie’s Diving Top and Ponder the entire match. We laugh and talk about how awesome SpaceBalls is.

Rd 2
I get paired up with Rich Shay playing BobTPS. Rich wrote a quick tourney report here. Game one I mulled to 5 and got there with Gorilla Shaman and Goblin Welder. Game two I mulled to 5 and get dominated by Bobby Digital and Sphinx of the Steel Wind. Game three I keep a hand that resolves around Goblin Welder and Bazaar of Baghdad. If Welder resolves I blow him out by turning moxen into Lodestones and Tangle Wires. He Forces Welder and I’m never able to recover.

Rd 3
Paul “Sculptini” Mastriano with Oath. Game one I get him with the big guys. Games two and three are hard to recall. I remember Paul activating Oath, my Welders duplicating his guys, playing around Energy Flux, getting hit by multiple Natures Claim, and getting all my guys bounces by Tidespout Tyrant……… Nightmareville.

I peeped standings before round four and do some number crunching. I’m unable to squeak into the top four. Poop!

Rd 4 Randalmore the Red with BobTPS
He Desires turn one for around 32 and my deck is put away before he even gets to flip a card.

Props
-Thurman's, man that place is unreal. My burger came with a shot!
-R&D for printing Lodestone Golem.
-Mishra's Workshop.... We can have a black lotus every turn!
-The Vintage community. We are small, but we are still way cooler than any other mtgers on the planet.

Slops
-Traffic Jams. It took forever to get back to C-Town
