For starters, I’d like to issue a sincere thanks to everybody that came out to Comicbook Depot yesterday to play in what I hope is the first of many smaller events run on Long Island.  As I have mentioned in the past, I feel that the NJ/PA crews have been great in supporting NY Vintage, and I appreciate the trips that all of you make.  Seeing Keith, Chris, Kelly, TJ, Shawn and Ralph make the trip meant a lot.  The event was better for having all of you there.
I do, however, feel that if we are to take the next step, to having consistently well attended tournaments with better prize payouts, it is incumbent upon me and the rest of the Long Island crew to help spread the format locally.
As was mentioned in the tournament announcement, neither deck registration sheets nor match slips were in use.  As such, I do not have a full metagame breakdown to offer.  I do have the finals decklists.
Our top 4 consisted of Alex Owen running Dredge, Ralph Parsinitz running Tezzeret, Peter Ingram running Noble Fish and Keith Seals running Oath.

Top 4 Pairings and Results:

Ralph Parsinitz vs. Keith Seals – Ralph wins
Alex Owen vs. Peter Ingram – Alex wins

Alex and Ralph agreed to a split beforehand, with the winner of the match taking the second place Volcanic Island.  The Workshop was split 50/50.  As with all N.Y.S.E. events, there were some other spectacular prizes to be given out.  3rd and 4th place took home a pair of Starter Mons Goblin Raiders.  Max Brown, coming in 5th place, took home 16 Steamflogger Boss’s, many of which were Asian.  A playmat was given out at random, with Keith Seals being the lucky winner.
To conclude, my thanks to Comicbook Depot for holding the event, to all the players who came out, and a special thanks to all the players who made a longer drive than most.  I hope you all had a great time, I know that I did.  And I hope to see all of you at future N.Y.S.E. events.

Thanks for everything Nick. It was really great to get back into vintage this weekend. Its so nice to see a dedicated community of great people welcoming me back with open arms. Ralph is basically one of the biggest champs I've met in a long time, that applebees dinner was the highlight of my day.

I look forward to being a more prevalent force in the upcoming vintage season.

I mean I'm pretty sure BAB gets its own category. I would write that tournament report but I don't know how much leeway I would get from the mods. For starters titling it "Back alley blowjob goes 0-3" is just not how I want to start off posting again haha

I didn't know that it was that close, and if you would prefer, I'll change it.

I'm bothered that players seem to forget where technology comes from.  I wanted credit to be paid, as it was the last list that I saw you running.  If it's credit to be paid to Elias, or you, that's fine.  Just let me know.

sorry i missed the event, i was busy making wall of bones not untap due to entangling vines.  It seemed like an event that needed a little bit of color in it.  boring deck names like BaB just dont seem to make events that memorial.  I am sure the dinner was a stellar event as they all are.  When my vintage break ends im sure i will be back with a vengeance.  but...who knows when that will be

I see how it is...forget the other PA player...lol. My deck wasn't too kind to me yesterday but it was a blast. And lots of food nearby is convenient also.

Hopefully we can get back up for a couple more of them in the future. The only hard thing is not enough chairs, I can steal some from where I work, we borrowed them and never gave them back. Though I don't think they are tall enough =/

I am happy to see this build is still doing well! Looks like you swapped angel for primus main, and serenity for the darkblast in the sb.  I actually like this version a lot, it's surprisingly resilient to hate.

Yeah it is really good vs the hate I really like this version of dredge. I liked the angel better since it hits creatures, flies, and can be eaten by ichorid all at a point during the day I found to be relevant. I added serenity as a one of because if there was a situation where a Leyline hit and they chalice for one, im not locked out totally, and its good vs multiple leylines and hate pieces on board.

I'm always hesitant to go below 6 outs to Yixlid Jailer though.  I'd sooner cut the Needles for Serenity, that might be a solid upgrade to be honest.  A 3rd Petrified Field and 2-3 Serenity would go a long way if Shops keep up their popularity.

Anyway for those that like to Dredge... I wrote 10,000 words (and I mean literally, honest-to-God, 10,000 words) for my articles next week and the following week.  I'm pretty pumped about it actually.  Its basically the Vintage Dredge player's bible.

Woot @ dredge player's bible.... Yea, I ended up running that list out of luck (or rather lack thereof) as I was playing in the event at Mark's the night before, and I forgot my dredge deck at home. Nick thankfully lent me his, and I ended up really liking the list, especially the board. 4 nature's claim and 4 chains just seems so necessary when everyone boards in infi hate cards. As far as the needle goes, I've only played the list once (and barely have a week of vintage play under my belt), but it  randomly came in very handy twice against memory jar in rounds 2 and 3, and I had the option of playing one on a relic of progenitus in round 4, but decided to play the nature's claim in hand as I was playing against goblins and wanted the option of stopping his random sack outlet dudes. ANYway, thanks for the list (to whomever I owe credit), and to Nick for a great tournament, lending me the list/deck, and convincing me that vintage is indeed a much better idea than dropping tons of money in order to win random foils at FNM....

Your Pithing Needle on my Memory jar was game winning actually. Very nicely played.

I really hope you enjoy Vintage. It has the best community out of all the formats. My round 1 opponent who was playing Goblins was also new to Vintage and was certainly a great time to play against. I hope the local community continues to support these events, along with some people willing to make the drive to grow our community as a whole.

Well I have never posted a tournament report so if it's a little sloppy I  pre-apologize.

Report

Rd1 Aaron "Rube Cube" Rubenstein w/TPS
G1: I keep a hand of Bob, Sapphire, fetch, tinker, pearl, volcanic and duress. Aaron leads with duress and takes tinker.
I play turn one bob and Aaron cant keep up with the card adv. he creates.
G2: I drop an early jace followed by duress effects and Jace seals the deal.

1-0-0

Rd2 TJ Gumina w/Shops
G1: I win the die roll and on the play mull to 6 I open with mox emerald tap to play key play tolarian academy tap tolarian to play vault and pass the turn. TJ kind of smirks and then on his turn plays MWS null rod. followed the next turn by chalice on 2 I find tinker and go after sphinx and he Finishes.

G2: TJ mulls to 5 and reluctantly keeps. I play a turn 5 jace and greater gargadon get's there.

2-0-0

Rd3 Brian Reilly w/ Nick D's Shops deck

G1: Brian keeps plays ancient tomb mox and then Serum powder

I play land mox sapphire bob and pass He then plays sphere I force

the next turn I reveal mox to bob and swing Brian plays 3 more spells (All Forced or drained) before Ancient tomb and bob killed him.

G2: Brian plays MWS mox lodestone golem pass.

I play pearl tap play key cast lotus fetch island sac lotus  cast tinker for vault and pass he plays a tangle wire which is annoying but on my turn scoops.

Brian wanted me to put in my report the fact that he hates Serum powder.

3-0-0

Rd4 Max Brown w/ Dark Times

G1: Max quickly gets hexmage sacs and kills me with a 20/20 token.

G2: I get jace down and the card advantage proves to much and an EOT hurkyll's puts the null rod's back in Max's hand and activate time vault to go infinite.

G3: Despite being sad sacced twice I had a gargadon in hand and finally got it into play  We end up going to time and at the buzzer I have a gargadon in play Max is at 16 I swing and put him to 7 then yawgmoth's will he Diabolic edicts in resp I have the force for it. Swing the next turn and win.

4-0-0

Rd5 Alex Owen w/ Dredge

ID

4-0-1

Top 4 Keith Seals w/ Oath

G1: I lose the die roll but an early remora followed by bob gets there. Keith ended up showing me after the game that he had unfortunately drawn all 3 creatures he plays.

G2: We paris to 6 and oath does what it is supposed to do I die quickly to large creatures.

G3: I again get remora and bob online but he is seriously mana light. I tinker for sphinx and bob and Sphinx start swinging he gets oath and oaths up hellkite but sphinx has him under control Keith goes to 7 and I duress he shows me Iona and a few other cards I take Duress and Merchant scroll for echoing truth after oath resolves I bounce both  hellkites and swing on my turn.

5-0-1

Finals Alex Owen w/ Dredge

G1: He powders twice then mulls to 3 I assemble Tez Vault and he kills me the next turn.

G2: I mull to 4 one land and never recover.

I was impressed with the way the deck performed and was particularly happy with the addition of Jace.

Props:Nick D for running a great event.

Aaron Rubenstein for showing me a certain video of One "Thor God of Thunder"

          vomiting bubbles.

And everyone who came out to support a great T.O.

Slops:The waitress at the "Bees" for ignoring us and knowing that she was gonna get a

          tip anyway

The belt parkway and the rain the whole 2:45 mins home ugh.

Nick looking forward to your next event.

Apparently three duresses weren't enough, Bob just gets there. The games were great fun though, I mean if you thought Bob gets there, Jace is just a monster.
