I think you'll lose more games due to not being able to take Force/Gifts/Tezzeret than you would due to Thoughtseize's Misdirectability and life loss.

How would it get better? Just curious.
  Funny you mention this 'cuz last night I was looking thru my type1 "tutors" and found myself pondering on Tainted Pact/Desperate Research and its possible role in combo in type1.

It means that pact.dec is one card closer to having 4x 1cc disruption spells with different names.

It's really tough to imagine this finding a home anywhere in vintage. There are just too many other better discard spells, and if you played all those then cabal therapy would make the cut before this card.

I could see it being situationally better in the sideboard against something like noble fish, where everything in the deck costs 3 or less and your life total matters. But even then you'd probably want to have thoughtsieze instead to bring in against control decks as well.
