After looking at the decklists, this looks like it would have been an insanely fun event to attend. Time Elemental and Primitive Justice? How awesome is that?

Thanks for doing the report Brian, I really appreciate it, you do a really nice job and I also want to thank everyone for coming. This tournament was a ton of fun! We will be doing another one in the fall, September/October time frame and well be keeping these going as long as their is interest.

Watch for the posting around August! I will be posting most of the remaining deck lists (or  atleast the arch types when I get some time).

There will be some minor modifications to restricted/banned lists for the fall tournament (thanks to people who provided insight/feedback to original time period b/r lists)... Were going to do some more testing but these will likely be the heart of the changes (These will not likely be the only tweaks so wait for the list in august):

1. Strip Mine will be unrestricted
2. Icy Manipulator will be unrestricted
3. Mindtwist will be banned (Ill be sad to see this one go, but it is sooo powerful in the format, and will be more in line with original b/r list, I found myself tutoring for it on more than one occasion for the win)

There was some interest in adding Mirage Block to the throwback mix and also a couple votes not too... So to try to accomidate everyone it is likely that this fall tournament would not add Mirage block in but the next throwback tournament following it will.

I found the fact that most of these list didn't run the full set of Forces to me more jarring than the presence of those cards, lol. At least Drain still earned its spot.

This format looks insanely fun. I might have to get a couple friends together to track it up here. Thanks for posting the results ^.^ You definitely got my interest, and hopefully I can make the next one (work blew my philly game day weekend, so its bound to blow another planned weekend :-/ )

There really is no pleasing some people... hopefully I'm not the only one that thinks its funny that my personal list of my personal favorites is getting criticized as "wrong".

If you look up lists from this time period you'll notice that FOW didnt catch on right away.  I think that the decks that ran less than 4 were probably correct in doing so, although I certainly ran the full compliment of Forces Smile  I feel like there is a lot of room for deck development in the "throwback" metagame, so I hope more people take the time to come up with something cool for the next one.

I found this funny:

4x Order of the Ebon Head

Anyways, this was a good time, and it was cool to see some of the cards people played that I overlooked.  I'm glad this worked out so well.

Sorry for the double post on here, but I was thinking about this one.  I liked the spirit of the "pimpest deck" award, but feel like it's awfully subjective.  I think if you did this kind of tournament in the future, then a more appropriate award might be for "highest placing player with no proxies".  I definitly feel like it's more in the spirit of old-school to try to play without proxies, and that's pimp no matter what to be the best player with no proxies in a format where Black Lotus is allowed.

Personally, I see these types of prizes as a random door prize. Its worded in a way that makes it fun to players, but is no different then rolling a dice and giving away a prize (atleast IMO).
