Thanks to everyone who came to play at the 5th Blue Bell Game Day!  The Vintage Main Event had 43 players, more then we've seen in a few months which is awesome!  Ed Carey came out of retirement (don't call it a comeback!) and Charles (forcethewill) was "in charge" all day (literally James Hangley signed up as "Charles N. Charge").  Also, a big thanks to Mike Coyle for letting us use his store to battle with the Vintage cards, and Abe for driving up from Virginia to judge a "local" Vintage event.

Here is how my Friday night went:
8pm: James Hangley, Nick Detwiler, Mike Egan, and Bernie Parisi arrive at my house.
9pm: Trip to the liquor store.
10pm-2am: the world became "fuzzy" and nothing happened, but someone emptied out his handle of Jaeger (according to James Hangley)

This exchange between myself and Jimmy at approximately 12 am:
Me, knocking on the bathroom door: "Jimmy, are you ok?"
Jimmy: "I can't see, I have no pulse, I think I'm dying."
Me: "open your eyes, then you can see"
Jimmy: "oh"

I'm very happy that I decided to schedule this tournament for a Noon start time, 11am would never have happened in a million years.

Also, as a shout-out to everyone out there who is obsessed with Alvin and the Chipmnks, here is James P Hangley III's, Ryan Glackin's, and Craig Berry's TRIBUTE TO THE CHIPMUNKS.  I personally have already repressed this.  But nonetheless, it needs to be shared.

The Top 8 Results:

Top 8:
Ray Robillard defeated Jake Gans
Dave Reitnauer defeated Jeff Folinus
Ryan Glackin defeated Max Brown
Keith Seals defeated Charles N. Charge (James Hangley)

Top 4:
Dave Reitnauer defeated Ray Robillard
Keith Seals defeated Ryan Glackin

Finals:
Keith Seals defeated Dave Reitnauer

Congratulations to Keith Seals, the winner of the Blue Bell Game Day #5!

a wonderful event.  I am so glad i toughed it out and decided to play.  Truth be told Friday night should never have happened.  I am never going near your brother again.
Up until round 4 i wasn't sure if i wanted to play.  I felt like just dropping and sleeping it off in the car.
But thanks for the event, the memories(umm i dont really recall them) and the good times.  I still want the waitress' number as well as the hostess' from the cherry hill dinner.
Props:

Much love and respect to the NEPA crew.  Mr. Keith Seals I am glad you won.  If it wasnt me I am glad for it to be you!
Mr. Coss i believe you left out the proper deck name as well as some important numbers of cards I played.
the hard work of the designers of expresso staxxx.  You know who you are and the love for you is always there
Nick Detwiller for not letting me go to that party Friday night where i would have died.

Thanks for a great event Nick, I wouldn't hesitate to make the trip again. I really love these events because of the people who go to them and this one was no exception. It was an all star event with GRAND TICHUS to be had by all. I'm still not happy I didn't get my Vintage Soccer side event but we can work on that for next time. Props to all the guys I brought up for their great showings, James Hangley for staying alive, Ricosuave and JR for being there and offering to drink long island ice teas with me and both Nicks for the best use of a saturday.

Ryan, I didn't do the Philly shirt justice but I will be wearing one (that fits) at the next event to settle the bet.

Max Brown, if you dis Ke$ha like that again I will not be driving you anymore.

Congrats to Keith!

This was a good tournament, despite my record.  Finally lost to good opponents and decks and not to not drawing enough lands, or too many, ...etc.

P.S.  Keith's list only has 58 cards.

Keith's list is missing Tezzeret, The Seeker and Jace, The Mind Sculptor.

We have tested this list extensively, and congrats Keith for a good performance. We are testing a few small changes, but I think it is a pretty solid decklist.

and Abe for driving up from Virginia to judge a "local" Vintage event.

Ooh, a shoutout!  I don't get many of those these days so I have to relish them when they happen.   Very Happy

Anyway, my pleasure!  I'm glad turnout was pretty good this time and that players, in general, seemed to have fun.  Also, thanks to everybody for acknowledging my birthday by singing at me.  That kind of thing eases the pain of aging, though not quite as much as eating a whole birthday cake when I got home.   Wink

For the record me and Keith split in the finals. I really wanted to play it out but Keith wanted a split and the " winner" went to the higher dice roller for the 1st place spot and obv I lost it.  Great job Keith on a job well done on sat.

Thanks to Nick Coss for holding a fantastic day of card flopping! Win or lose Blue bell game days are a effin blast. We as a vintage community are very lucky to have t.o's like Nick C. and Nick D..

Props ....

Paul M. for a hell of a game ,and for rocking a version of peanut oath in ohio the next day and making top4.
CHARLES N. CHARGE... James our top eight match was epic! that puts us at 1 and 1! With out a doubt you alone make it worth it to come out and play... Just open your eyes man!
last but not least congrats to the rest of the top 8!

Jake doesn’t open on Leyline – he plays City of Brass, and then Pithing Needle on Bazaar.

No, seriously.

You can feel free to send me a PM if you have any questions of the deck.  My list started with Ici Li's version of Mono-Red Stax as I felt it was by far the most powerful version out there before Lodestone Golem was printed.  Although Ici thinks Lodestone doesn't belong in the deck I like how it allows the deck to win quickly and certain starts like T1. Resistor T2. Lodestone puts a lot of decks on the back foot if they don't have Force.  Another reason I choose to play the deck is that I feel the MUD matchup is quite good because of Welder and Crucible in the MD.  Both of these cards give MUD a very hard-time, Null Rod a card that would seem marginal in the MU is actually quite strong since it shuts down Metalworker, Karn, and Trike from killing Welder.  But with that said Null Rod is still the weakest card in the deck but I don't know what would really serve well as a replacement.  There isn't enough Fish/Aggro in our meta to warrant running Powder Keg in that slot.  But this is something that could easily be changed based on what your meta is like.  Good luck with the deck.

Also this was another well run tournament at Blue Bell hopefully we can keep getting 40+.

I went completely bonkers when I read Jeff Folinus Mono Red Shops.

Man that guy is good.

Congrats on the finish Jeff.

I hope I can make it out to one these again. They are absolutely amazing and I would recommend anyone within the region go to them. They are completely off the meat rack.

A night out with Elliot Coss would have killed you.  A few hours with him left you believing you'd broken your sternum, hand, foot, left you with a concussion, and left you more drunk than I have ever seen anyone.  Good God, we can't ever let you two come together again.
